Planning new console for holidays. PS3 or Wii (I'm sorry for repeating topic)

Hi everybody. I'm currently planning to get a new console for the holidays, but I'm having trouble deciding whether to get the PS3 or the Wii. Due to my inexperience in the next-gen consoles, I don't know what are the differences in terms of their specifications. Please help me decide which one to get

Here's a list of my personality in gaming:

- More action-adventure (i.e. GTA games), beat-em-up (i.e. The Warriors), fighting (i.e. Street Fighter series) oriented

- No desire for 360 due to the red ring

- Have a plasma TV made approx. in 2004-2005, NO HDTV

- Not very social in gaming, but still social (sorry if this confuses anyone)

- Money is not an issue, but its about what I can get out of either console

- Like Brawl and RE:UC; other games don't quite suit me

- Long-time Street Fighter player (even though not extremely good at it)

- Don't like FPS and TPS without auto-aim

- Have PS1 and PS2 and enjoyed both consoles

- Need the games, in general, to be long (i.e 20-30 hours)

That's pretty much it in terms of my personal info in games. I understand that this list is a lot, but I need to make sure that it won't collect dust since I don't want to make the same mistake like I did with the Dreamcast. I know that everybody has a different perspective in video games, but it would be extremely appreciated if your suggestions involved the mentioned factors in consideration. Also, I have only made encounter with the Wii with Brawl and RE: UC, but these games are more of "been there, done that" type. I know, obviously, that a lot of people would recommend the PS3 based on my personality, but I would like to hear some suggestions from more people.

RROD is a thing of the past mostly. You should consider it since you claimed to be not well informed.too_much_eslim

Are you sure? There are some of my friends who still suffered RROD and theirs are the falcon 360s. I'm planning on getting the 360 for my birthday on February, and I'm still feeling a little unsure.

Oh, to the TC, I used to want PS3 so much, but seeing some of their franchises going multiplats and with tons of released multiplats being better on the 360, the PS3 can wait.

Get the Wii.

Get the Wii.

I would say get a wii

No more heroes should be adequate for action/adventure needs, also Metroid Prime 3 is awesome.

Get Okami as well if you haven't played it yet.

Wii is not so hot in fighting department, although there is tatsunoko vs capcom, but thats japan only for now. You mentioned you liked brawl, so definitely look into that.

Wii games look fine on plasmas, speaking from my own experience

oh yeah, if you're into beat-em ups, check out videoes of MadWorld..

PS3 is the system you should get. It's the one getting Street Fighter 4, though Wii is getting Tatsunoko vs Capcom (japan only).

PS3 is also getting Maffia 2 and Godfather 2 which are in the same genre as GTA. Tekken 6 coming to the PS3 as well.

Beat 'em up genre is almost dead or has evolved into hack and slash. Though there is one game that still keeps that genre still alive and that is YAKUZA 3!

If you don't care about Blu-Ray, online, any of the PS3's anticipated releases or HD visuals then by all means get a Wii, it's cheaper.cheezisgoooood

PS3, it has all you want and more, the wii is great for the first couple of weeks with games like mario and zelda and SSBB, it takes 2 months at most, after that great games will be rare to find.

I know that the PS3 will have great games next year but I don't know about the Wii so ask somebody else for a list for future Wii games or just get a ps3 and put the wii behind you :P

No really, dont get a Wii. Nintendo has pulled the plug on real gamers and focused on family friendly, less hardcore games that suit non gamers, and that combined with its relatively low price in this economic crisis is what makes it sell(parents everywhere would go directly for this for the christmas season)

BUT..When i go to the Wii section on GS and look at its games....i dont see much, do you see much?

Take SMG, SSBB(good MP game..but not really a great SP game), Metroid 3, and No more heroes aside....there is nothing really that great.

You will regret it if you buy a wii.. All those awsome multiplat games like Dead space,GTA4,COD4, Street fighter, Tekken 6, FF13, Assassins creed 2 etc and those great ps3 exclusives like MGS4, Uncharted, uncharted 2, Upcomming Killzone 2, Warhawk, Resistance 2, Wipeout HD, GT5, Upcomming FFv13, Upcomming God of war 3, Ratchet and Clank/Jak and daxter games and more will never come to the Wii. (And the fps's dont have auto aim)

You will regret buying a Wii...dont let sales figures make you buy one, cos those high sales of the Wii are all comming from a much bigger and completely diffrent audience.

You just answered your question! Based on your preferences it's pretty obvious you should pick up a PS3. This is purely based on what you'd like and not my preferences. I like the Wii myself but you'd probably have more fun with a PS3, especially with Street Fighter IV right around the corner.

PS3. It'll have longer games because blu ray can hold more space. Also, it's a great blu ray player! Wii only has child games....infamous_27

I'd recommend the PS3. It meets more of your points than the Wii does.

wii is the cheapest dont even worry about a 360 if your worried of it breaking

and has some awsome games like mariokart ssbb metroid 3 no more heroes medal of honor quantum of solace

mortal kombat armageddon dbz

on vc =streets of rage 1-3 theres also fighting fury or somthing ,

driver paralel lines scarface bully se the god father are gta like games on wii ,

plus true crime 1 and 2 are playable gc games , all gc games are

if you get a wii and later a 60 20 or a old 80 gb ps3 that is bc or a wii and 360 youll find even more games to play then if you own 1

for now i d recommend a 360 or wii ,
