The story, Stream PlayStation games on your Samsung smart TV, well if you're American or Canadian.

Is this good, bad or the beginning of the end for the physical console?

We've known about this deal coming for at least a year, but now that the day has arrived...I still wonder how many Samsung owners will use PSNow?

It's interesting to see how this streaming games will unfold.

The Playstation consoles are going to be around for a longtime for performance reasons and it's where the latest and greatest AAA games debut, but this steaming older games technology should be a great way to generate more revenue.

It's not for me at all (as in I'll never support PSNow as a collector), but it's good for non-gamers and casuals to have access to older Playstation games via streaming with Samsung and other brands I suppose.

Its the end of PlayStation as a physical console, and I say the end can't come soon enough. I look forward to streaming the latest and greatest PlayStation games on my PC.

I don't even use PS Now on my PlayStation 4 let alone have a need to use it on my two smart TV's, novel idea though.

It reminds me of staying in a shitty hotel that has a GameCube and some shitty games to rent. Pass.

Yeah, Sony went ahead and designed PSNow as a complimentary service for devices instead of forcing online streaming PSNow as the only way to play PS4 games.

Stupid Sony.

@lamprey263: It takes time to condition a market and this looks like Sony's first step to me. If they lock down the US and Canada and the trial is successful Sony will expand it, or perhaps Samsung will (after they buy Sony/PlayStation :p)

Superb reading comprehension and poor trolling attempt.

Sony designs the PS5 as online only is the day I don't buy that console (and unlike you, I buy them all at launch). Same goes for any console manufacturer.

It's Nintendo, so it's okay to act juvenile? See?

You have disdain for Sony and their buyers, but you have to realize gamers across the board have disdain for you and your sort as well for blindly defending everything Nintendo does, including how poorly Nintendo handled Splatoon's online release.

So, on one end of the spectrum we have one company being dragged into the future and on the other we have a company adopting newer technology.

Personally, I don't care for either Sony's streaming or Nintendo's terrible online policies and I take the machines as they come instead of making broad generalizations as you choose to do.

Dont be so naive to not know what PS Now is, it's the 'PlayStation 5' and it's optional right now as a familiarity tactic to get people comfortable with an entirely Netflix based gaming future.

Don't be so naive to assume what the Playstation 5 will be.

I certainly do not. Yes, it's a possible avenue that Sony haters like yourself pray everyday the brand implements streaming games cutting off millions upon millions of non-online gamers for Nintendo and Xbox to pick up, but it's only one such possibility.

I don't believe it at all though. Maybe the PS6, but if or when that happens, I won't be along for the ride. We can play "what if" and speculate all day, but ultimately, we don't know what the future Xbox, PS, and Nintendo machines will truly be. What we do know is Sony bought Gaikai, it was an investment and they want a return on that investment. Sony also has other objectives they juggle as a company (Movies, TV, Music, gaming, Streaming, computers, phones, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc).

In the meantime, I'm not going to care one way or the other for PSNow on Samsung devices since it is something I won't support ever as I've said about 100x in every PSNow thread I've posted in. IF (it's a big if) PSNow shaped the next PS console to the point of a DRM joke machine, I would be a non-buyer.

Sounds to me like you're trying to rationalize PS5 being online still, even though you claim you'll ignore it. I bet you'll be right here day 1 with your secret moos.

This isn't just a possible future for PlayStation, it's a possible future for Xbox and Nintendo as well. MS have already spent a ton of money of a massive, globe spanning network array that's more than capable of providing a streaming games service.

Designing and producing new consoles is expensive with a very limited life span. An online streaming service has got to be a very attractive solution for all 3 of the console manufacturers

Reading comprehension again? How could I be more clear as I would never support a PS5 designed in that fashion and I will NEVER support PSNow with purchases. Ergo, you are incorrect.

Sounds to me like you are praying for a brand you have longtime despised to self implode by implementing an always online, no other options, Xbone styled DRM stratagem for their next console.

I would take your bet and make money off of you because I will never, as a long, long, LOOOOOONG time videogame collector and historian, support an always online only DRM styled console. I think the concept of such a console only serves corporations and I find it pathetic, but I do see the obvious economic appeals for the companies.

Yes, I know.

It's clear where technology is headed, but I can only deal with the realities I have thrust on me today. What is tangible? What affects me today? Well, this thread is about Samsung buyers having access to older PS streaming games. My Xbone, Wii U, 3DS, PS4, 360, PS3, Vita, etc didn't suddenly transform when this thread was created.

When that time comes where technology in consoles removes all hopes of consumer ownership I currently enjoy as a longtime collector and historian, I'll cross that bridge with the best offerings of that time...or I will choose none of the console options and strictly PC game which I have been doing since the 1980's.

Is not the same as MS DRM which was a total joke and which turned your actual game into a coaster after you install it once.

You're an idiot to think PS Now isn't a beta test for what they want to have happen in the future. The future of subscription based games lies heavily on the success of Playstation Now.

If the console future is streaming games then **** console gaming.

I want a game on a disc or downloaded to my hard drive, with my hardware running the game. This is a medium about interactivity, and I'm not exactly wanting to play things like fighting games or japanese action games via stream. I'm already annoyed anytime there are frame rate dips in Bayonetta 2.

yup. And attaching PlayStation Vue with it and their exclusive TV shows and all of that will look lovely in the future. Sony is really lining up their future in services well. Hopefully Sony will have enough new features to compete against Nvidia and SE's Shinra technologies. Their all encompassing services should make PS5 as a service stand out.

So, one one end of the spectrum we have one company being dragged into the future and on the other we have a company adopting newer technology.

Personally, I don't care for either Sony's streaming or Nintendo's terrible online policies and I take the machines as they come instead of making broad generalizations as you choose to do.

I'm glad you called this troll out. After not being taken seriously in the article comment sections I see he has reseeded to the forums to spew his vial disdain.

Where are the people who were raising DRM hell for the other company?

Sony's doing it so it's revolutionary.

Yeah, Sony went ahead and designed PSNow as a complimentary service for devices instead of forcing online streaming PSNow as the only way to play PS4 games.

Stupid Sony.

see? Its Sony so its ok.

He really seems to despise that company and their buyers for whatever reason.

@SolidTy: What's pathetic is that he has been consumed by his shtick of being a loyal Nintendo fan. He owned a PS3 and I'm sure PS2/1 (who didnt?). And so once he started getting likes for his pro Nintendo persona it consumed him to the point he just types one of two things: support for Nintendo or disdain for Sony. He is now a cartoon character incapable of making real comments that require critical analysis and lack of bias.

Physical Consoles are dying breed. Anyone who can't see that is blind. Streaming is the future. But it'll still take time until we get there. And gaming won't be the same as we know it as well. Most games will be like interactive experiences like TellTale's games or watered down shooters that are "fun" to play.

End of just about nothing.

Only people with super fast internet connections can make good use of this. Also, no data caps is also pretty much a requirement. That will exclude a significant portion of people.

Eventually, though, this will be the norm for living room gaming. But we're not there yet. Not even close.

Considering the PS4/XB1 are killing the sales of the PS3/360 during the same time frame its kind of hard to see.

And as long as places still have shitty internet connections and service providers require data caps it wont happen.

I already don't like digital, but i'm okay with a largely digital future where games are cheaper and have no DRM, and I could sell my games if I wanted. Meaning we aren't bent over and own our purchases. I don't see why physical media would have to go though.

But streaming? **** that garbage.

That said, this thread got way off track and i'm confident that we'll see one more generation of consoles with physical media at the very least.

That's why I said it'll take time. It's not gonna happen anytime soon but we are getting there. Like it or not, that's what is happening right now and I hate this direction too... Won't change the reality though.

I support Sony and the PSNow service in this and I think it's consoles future. If I have the opportunity to use this service I will.

Well done Sony, nice to see them lead the way for change.

The reality is that, that will not happen. Consoles may go away eventually, but there will always be a wide variety of games on the market.

I hope so... But most big Console games these days are already made for wider audiences.
