Playstation 3 could use a remodel?

Does anybody else thing PS3 looks a bit chunky?

It looks a bit too awkward to be a media player for 10 years (as Sony claim).

Do you think Sony will release a more practical Playstation 3?

I'm sure they'll make a PS3 Slimline down the track.

For now I'm happy with the design as long as the console doesn't have any overheating issues, which it probably won't since it's so large.

As technology gets cheaper and micro-components are being researched, yeah.  Might be a bit harder for the PS3 since it has a lot more components than the previous playstations.  Like the harddrive.

It looks perfect right on my desk.  Any smaller, it would take out essential components of the PS3.NobuoMusicMaker

Could take out the BR (hehehe) and chuck in  500gb HD. You'd then get room to store HD movies, console be a little smaller, you'd have less load times and frame-rate issues. And yay!!! a better console in all though lacking disc movie playback. Maybe a add-on would solve that.

Poor of those that don't have an internet connection in which to plug their PS3...

About the load times and frame-rate issues, in what games you find that? Exactly, third party. First and second party games have no framerate issues and good loading times. Blame the developers, not PS3's hardware.

Uh you know that there are different sizes of laptops.  Cheap, small laptops hold nothing.  Expensive custom size (less than 2.5") will be costing half the system itself.  Think iPods except faster transfer rates, since iPods HD are slow as hell.  Then, if you throw out the standard 2.5" hds, how will you plan to swap?  HDs like in the iPod are proprietery made components.

Wait, you'd chuck the BD-Rom and put in 500gb for BD content?  Where's are you going to get those movies because I'm sure as hell not going to download 25-50gb for one movie.  Smaller consoles =/= less load times.  Consoles are practically integrated systems so they don't have to worry about BUS speed, although PS3 has 50gb/s BUS.

it's too big, but aesthetically, it's got the best design of the 3, imo.fuzzysquash

I like the shinyness it just screams buy me but it is awkwards in both size and shape. It's kind of wants you to build your entertainment unit around it rather than the other way around.

There is also an ebay seller who sells custom PS3s which is where that white PS3 pic is from

The only reason the PS3 is as large as it is, is the internal power supply. I mean  we have all seen the power brick of the 360 XD. The 360 should be the same size as the PS3 they just opted for less heat with an external power supply.

Saying that a hard drive has a lower transer rate then any form of any type of media aside from things that are like hard drives is insane. HDD's will always be faster. Western digital makes a a raptor drive that is only 150 GB and is 250$ for a reason.

Disc's are cheeper and durable, those are the only reasons I can think of for why games come on disc's rather then a HDD you could just hook up to a Molex, and run a sata cable to. Its not like hooking a HDD up is hard or anthing.

Either way, its not BD content, its HD content, HD games, 50GB of date, or 50gb of anything else. Blueray isnt a type of data nor can it ever be. It just a name of a high capacity disc. One that gets more attention then the better cheeper HD-DVD, for some god awful reason.
