Yesterday, I tried to buy a PS3 Slim off Amazon, but apparently, it wasn't in stock. Only third party resellers had it in stock, and they were offering the thing at grossly inflated prices (i.e., $70-$200 over the MSRP), so of course, I wasn't going to buy it from them. I checked other retailers and they didn't have it in stock either.

I later even went to a local Best Buy today to check if it's in stock, and the answer was, "No." Yet, I saw over forty Xbox 360's and Wiis sitting on the shelves.

Sad to say, I have already pre-ordered RDR already and I might not even have a console to play on when I get my hands on it May twenty-something-ish.

Is demand so great that Sony can't keep up with demand?

They have been rather slow refilling some of my local areas as well, but I don't think the demand is that massive, I think they are just being a bit sluggish with shipments lots of places have them if your willing to look past the mainstream shops.

Sony is still having stock issues. I have been meaning to replace my ylod 60gb ps3 but for last couple weeks there have been none available in my area. Sucks too bc now I finally got my tax refund so I can afford it.

sony still having shortage issues? lawlessx
They will continue having shortage issues as long as the PS3 price is so low.

PS3 is currently below the equilibrium price. The quantity of PS3 demanded is higher due to the low price, while the quantity of PS3 supplied is lower due to the low price, therefore creating a shortage between the two distant figures. Theoretically speaking Sony would actually experience an increase in number of PS3 sold if they raise the price.

EDIT:

PS3 is currently priced at P2, below Po. In theory if the price is raised to Po, the quantity of PS3 sold will increase with the absence of shortage. However the reason behind Sony's action is most probably due to the fact that most of the money coming out of PS3 is not from sale of PS3, but rather sale of PS3 games. Sony would therefore sacrifice PS3 price for increased motivation to buy PS3 games.

lol, you need to study the concept of "supply and demand". Sure, what you say could be true, but it could also mean that demand is low, and that they didnt stock as many, and those few sold out. Doesnt always mean they are flying off the shelves ;)

My gamestation sold out of PS3's at the start of this week. But the gamestation is pretty small.

Also a contributing factor right now is the Avatar craze which reminds me i despo need to lay my hands on a Blu ray copy.

The reason for the shortage is because Sony is selling all of the "current" models and ramping up for a new "sku".

If you haven't heard, the new PS3 Slim model will have its GPU at 45nm so that both the CPU and GPU will be at 45nm.

They are pretty much sold out everywhere, including here in the Bay Area.

So you traveled to every store that sells Playstation 3's ever where in the world? In Europe? In North America? In you state/province? Yeah thought so. Also if they are out of stock "everywhere" why were they aviable from third-party sellers on Amazon?

Well, PS3 was outselling the 360 the first couple months after the slim came out. And I think it only really stopped doing so when SONY claimed massive shortages because of high holiday demand. Anyway, if this continues for another month or two, then ill call BS. Its really a shame because they were on the right track too.

they are doing the nintendo wii trick. keep stock low to force people buy on sight. also merchants will buy them to resell em for profit.

Sonys mindset: if someone wants a PS3, theyll buy one. but if we keep stocks low around the country, we will 1) save money by only shipping consoles when theyre needed and 2) kids like The_Capitalist will go around telling people PS3s are out of stock and aside from those of us who know the X360 outsells the PS3 monthly in America, people will think the PS3 is doing amazing

In my Best Buy they use the 360's to prop up display tables for the PS3s, but there is only ever maybe one PS3 on the table.

They were also having a hard time giving away free raffle tickets to win 360s with, something about making room in the back for Hannah Montana karaoke machines. :P

But across the board the stock is nearly the same in all shops when it comes to games its pretty limited kinda why im getting fond of jumping on the train to glasgow for buying things now.

but the slim only gets hot in one area, which means all the heat is drawn away from the crucial components, the slim has roughly half the power consumption of the phat, so thre is no way that it burns hotter overall than the PHAT, basic physics mate, more power consumption=more heat, less power consumption= less heat, the heat is less noticeable with the Phat because it had a fantastic cooling system.
