No it can't, component is only supported up to 1080i, some tv's support 1080p signal threw it but very few, so you gonna need hdmi

Do you know of any TV's that don't supprt 1080P over component? I have never seen one.

Almost every HDTV in existence supports VGA. Every TV that is based on LCD or DLP supports 1080p component (assuming the TV is 1080p capable of course). Try going to a Best Buy or Circuit City some time.

Furthermore, Every Xbox 360 made after 2006 has an HDMI port.

I ment support hd 1080p threw Component,You notice how I said nothing about vga since I know nothing about it.

And no every HDTV doesn't support 1080p threw component, most high end brands don't, most brands in general don't, look it up

Furthermore, I know considering I use HDMI threw my 360

I gues my 50" Samsung DLP 1080P set isn't considered high end... You are the one making ridiculous claims, I suggest you look it up. I have NEVER seena 1080P set that doesn't support 1080P over component.

[QUOTE="SemiMaster"][QUOTE="st1ka"][QUOTE="SemiMaster"][QUOTE="st1ka"]

so the PS3 has 200 games and only 30 run in 1080p

the 360 has 400 games and only 3 run in 4080p

... why are we comparing both again? no matter how you slice it this is terrible for both

odin2019

You do realize that the 360 originally only supported 1080i, but an update made that 1080p. And whatever Sony claims it can do with full 1080p and FSAA and all that... it can't. Neither consoles are optimized for true 1080p gaming. Next generation, sure.

like i said no matter how you slice it's a terrible number for both consoles seeing as how they usualy pride themselves for being HD consoles

Well... 720p is technically high def, so they are actually high def, upscaled or not. But yes, you're right.

That depends on your definition of high def. Some people may only find 1080p high def and thats it.

Thanks to Sony's absolutely stunning TrueHD marketing...

Internet forum rule of thumb, never quote Wiki as a credible source.. good post though Erik_Lensherr
LOL!!! Wiki as a source is funny. While Wiki does have good info, anybody at the same time can change the info on the page. I can tell ya a lot of the games on the PS3 1080P supposedly are not native 1080P. Since PS3 can now upscale via software update. Funny how a lot of people believe everything on Wiki.

Not according to what I found on avsforum from other users of the xbr4. It accepts 1080P over component. It won't accept 1080P24 over component, but seeing as that is a resolution for BD-Movies, it is hardly relevant.

According to the list there are like 17 PS3 games running at TRUE1080p (NATIVE) HD resolution.

And ONLY 3 XBOX 360 GAMES :(

speedsix

There are 10 PS3 games listed as native 1080p. It's not a complete list, I think all the 1080p sports games listed for PS3 are also 1080p on the 360. I'm not aware of any multiplat game that is a higher res on the PS3 but some that are the opposite, GTAIV etc.

There are 17 or maybe 16 count again. Not counting the upscaled but do count varients of 1080p.

Retail games not PSN. There are no 'variants' of 1080p, 1920x1080 only. 1200x1080 for example is NOT 1080p.

Count again.

It's all down to copy protection issues, 1080p over anologue inputs is such a thorny issue. I can't think of any devices that play back film content at 1080 over anologue outputs. Even if sets to support it on their non protected anologue inputs such as component, it's most likely undocumented.

My Sony screen, it doesn't list 1080p as a supported resolution over VGA but get this, it'll display it fine but will pop up a message saying 'Unsupported Resolution'!!

Hmm just had a look at those "native" 1080p games listed on Wiki and i'm sorry to say but they're not all native 1080p.

Ones i know arent would be ...

Resistance

MGS4

The Darkness

Oblivion

VF5

With the scaler off on my PS3 these all output at 720p (on my 1080p Bravia).

Just to add fuel to the fire...

Does it really matter? Seriously, I have a 720P 50" Pioneer Plasma and its picture is better than any of the 1080P set's I've seen (except mabye Sony XBR). The owners of those 1080P DLP, LCD, etc. sets agree by the way.

Are you guys gaming on 60+ inch TVs? I sit about 8-10 feet from my TV and there is no way any human could tell the difference between 720P and 1080P at that distance. I suppose parking your nose in front of a 30" TV sitting on a desk might be a different story, but for most cases, the 720/1080 difference at normal viewing distance won't be noticable for any TV under 50". 50-60 could be debated. Bigger than that, sure you'd probably notice a difference.

I guess the point I'm trying to make, is why is this such a big deal. The graphics on the HD systems look awesome. I don't care what the actual numbers are, its HD and looks good. I can't believe how long this thread is.

Memory is the least of their problems. With PS3 you have to be worried about fillrate and bandwidth, with the 360 the problem is the eDRAM.

Have you actually tried 1080P over component? I know some sets don't list it as a feature. Like my dad's new 1080P LCD. It accepts 1080P over component even though it isn't listed.

when the back of the box says video mode :"1080p".............yes. It does really matter. Some people don't like being lied to. what if the back of the box said "multiplayer supported" but there really wasn't any multiplayer, what they really meant is that when you die you could switch off the controller to your little brother and take turns. would you care?

I sense someone who hasn't even tried to do 1080P via component on their set. I looked in avsforum, and a guy with the same set as you, said his accepts 1080P via component, but not 1080P24.

[QUOTE="UnnDunn"]Neither console has enough memory to do 1080p properly. I thought this issue had been settled a long time ago.Teufelhuhn

Memory is the least of their problems. With PS3 you have to be worried about fillrate and bandwidth, with the 360 the problem is the eDRAM.

YEs devs have to design the pipelines all over in a special way for next gen consoles. But they can manage to do it.Most games nowadays are 720p,good enough if you ask me.

Have you actually tried 1080P over component? I know some sets don't list it as a feature. Like my dad's new 1080P LCD. It accepts 1080P over component even though it isn't listed.

snyper1982

Of course I have. It's not very uncommon for sets to only take 1080p over HDMI...as it's mentioned before it's sensitive issue with copy protection.

Well I was just checking. That other guy keeps saying his set doesn't support it, when I have read the eact opposite on avsforum... So I am assuming he just hasn't tried it.

My Panasonic 42" Plasma won't take 1080p over component, only over HDMI. I have no idea what other sets do the same thing.

Is it new? Or an older set? Just curious, because like I said I have never seen one, but I do know they exist. I am only wondering how prevalent they are in the overall scheme of things.

There are very few native 1080P games on the market on either system, the ps3 wiki list is completly wrong the majority of those games are upscaled from 720P.

Infact the only full retail game i can think of that runs natively at 1080P is sony's NBA game i forget which i think it was the launch title, they needed a 1080P game since they had been using "true HD" as there marketing hype.

There are very few HD-TV's that allow 1080p through component due to the copyright protection HDCP, its not the cables inability to produce that signal but the DRM.

This is also not an arguement about which console can do more games natively in 1080p, native 1080p can be produced by both systems providing you have the TV that can output 1080P, it's the developers that decide wheter a game can be played natively in 1080P.

So far many developers have said 720P is the sweat spot for HD games development, i cannot think of 1 game that runs natively in 1080P on consoles that does not suffer from some techincal issues.

I find 1080p to be quite irrelevent i have a 42" 1080P HDTV and i see very little difference between 1080p and 720p(probably because no games are natively 1080p) in my expierence 720P is more than fine for gaming this generation, i not a pixel counter so maybe im missing something but to me the debate over 1080p vs 720p is a moot point.

If Sony had never have touted "Full HD 1080P, 120 FPS in 4D on PS3" we probably would not be having this conversation.

who cares? Resolution is about the least important part of a game, it barely effects the aesthetics of a game

The truth is that even if a game is native 1080p it doesn't mean it has better graphics than a game that only supports 720p. If you look at the list of games that are native 1080p on both systems they are not considered graphical heavyweights.

Both systems have 1080p native game but in the end it does not matter.

And here is a perfect example of why nobody listens to anything you post.

Then factor in the claims made about the systems. 360 made zero claims about 1080p and didn't even support it initially. 3 games that DO is exceeding the claims about the system. Sony however claimed EVERYTHING would be in 1080p. 15 or so(most of which are quasi 1080p) is FAR BELOW claims made. Lems owned? Hardly.

Well then, because your cable box won't output a 1080P signal over component(which makes sense, since all the hoopla about 11080P over component has to do with piracy...), you assume the set itself won't do it. Makes sense I guess. I am 99.9% sure your set accepts 1080P over component, seeing as other people with the same set have actually tried it with the xbox360, and it worked fine.

dead serious

component says "1080i"

and HDMI says "1080p"
