BS. You'll need one to update the system, which for all consoles exists in order to avoid pirating. To play new games, there's often a system update. Completely misleading.

If I recall correctly, PS3 games that require a certain firmware come with that firmware packaged on the disk (similar to how PSP games did it).
Edit:
Here's a link from Sony.
Lawl only on a forum full of blind fanboys is technological stagnation lauded. All for the sake of crappy used games which only really helps scumbag retailers like Gamespot. Magescrew
I agree! Screw preservation of culture AND Gamespot!

You are wrong. You don't HAVE to update your system. You can play new games without updates as well. Not sure where you get your info, but look for a new source.BS. [QUOTE="Wasdie"]Official Playstation Magazine (lol it's still around) reports.
[quote="OPM"]
I interviewed senior VP of worldwide studios Michael Denny following the reveal of PS4. Here we discuss the philosophy behind the new console, the controller, the lack of backwards compatibility and Sonys future plans.
OPM You talked a lot about service, tech and ideas; how are you going to present PS4 to a more casual market?
Michael Denny So I think two of the other pillars we talked about in-terms of design were simplicity and immediacy. Even taking back a step from here, PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all. So it depends what level you want to use these feature sets at. So with simple and immediacy we want it so that everything is one button click away, for example. And immediacy takes down these barriers that can be frustrating to gamers between the player getting access to the content.

Well that is starting to clear things up about the Playstation 4. This doesn't mean that all games will not require an internet connection, but it's a good indication that Sony is sticking with more traditional ways of handling used games and whatnot.
I still expect online passes.
That would be fine by me, my main concern with anti-used games policies is the killing off of legacy gaming. Online passes don't apply since the servers will be shutdown eventually anyway.
That is exactly my thoughts as well. I break out old consoles all the time and fire up the classics.
[QUOTE="NathanDrakeSwag"][QUOTE="faizan_faizan"]And who expected otherwise?faizan_faizan
Delusional lems.
I said "expected", not "hoped".Ok so PS4 will need an internet connection once every 6 months or so.BS. You'll need one to update the system, which for all consoles exists in order to avoid pirating. To play new games, there's often a system update. Completely misleading.

If Sony still has Online Passes for first party games I cannot in good conscience give them any money. Went out of my way to get my Vita used for that exact reason. Online Pass can go f*ck itself.famicommanderIsn't Naughty Dog still 2nd party?
Lawl only on a forum full of blind fanboys is technological stagnation lauded. All for the sake of crappy used games which only really helps scumbag retailers like Gamespot. MagescrewUsed games help gamers, dingus. I can pay less for my games, and if I happen to get a game I do not like I can exchange it for money or another game. And I can lend, borrow, rent, et cetera. Not to mention there are some titles which you can ONLY play used. How else would a modern gamer get to experience the wonder of games like Shenmue, and so many others that never made it off their original systems?

Online Pass can go f*ck itself.CJ_ofCamelotIsn't Naughty Dog still 2nd party? That's pretty irrelevant. Sony publishes their titles, and under no circumstances will I buy a Sony published title new. I always go used because I refuse to reinforce the thought that Online Pass is an acceptable practice. Not that I would be too upset about missing a Naughty Dog game anyway. They're clearly a talented developer but to be honest I do not think they have made a truly great game since Crash Bandicoot 3. I played all the Uncharted games and all the Jak games, and I just don't see what the big deal about them is. I had fun with Uncharted 1 and (less) fun with 2, but I just put them back on the shelf and never thought about them again. Completely unspectacular. I couldn't make it all the way through the third; it was just not interactive enough. If I wanted to watch an Indiana Jones movie I'd pop in Raiders of the Lost Ark. And I consider the entire Jak series to be thoroughly average. Not bad, but again, completely unspectacular.

Nah, they're owned by Sony.

I guess the question at this point is, do all games that need an update come with the software on the disc?

Even Sony's website says that certain games will require a system update. So, like I said in the above post... will all the discs have on the PS4 (or had on the PS3) the system update? I can't see a situation where it does. But games do require an update whether it's on disc or the internet.

PS3 games always package the required firmware on the disc. It's been that way since it launched.
I feel sorry for anyone using a PS4 without the internet. You can't get PS+ and that's far and away the best thing about the system.Senor_KamiOnly if you're a cheap-ass gamer who never buys games. As someone who's had it for a year and a half now, I can easily say its a bottom-of-the-barrel rental service that shows its cheapness by not letting you pick which games you rent.
I have a solid connection so it doesnt matter much to me. Heil68It does matter when publisher servers and Microsoft servers drops. It also matters when you are hacked, and it matters when Microsoft dont support the system any longer.

Well then it must be on the disk because my brother-in-law is proof of that. He doesn't have internet and plays his PS3 games just fine.Please Log In to post.
