PlayStation 4.5 Is Real, Says Report

@SecretPolice: don't expect 1440p that would cost to much. I expect this to hit 1080p and 60fps on graphic intensive games like uncharted and stuff. Hitting 1080p and 60fps on all games actually takes minimal hardware which says a lot about what is in the ps4 and xbone lol

@howmakewood: yeah I can see it being $400 for the PS 4.5 with a 500 GB hard drive, and another $100 for a TB.

I've yet to get a PS4. I doubt they'll fracture player base with games not being playable on base model. So I ask this, take Dark Souls 3 on PS4 1080/30fps, could the same game for Ps4.5 run 1080/60fps if the devs can work it out? Is that feasible? The 4k stuff seems like it would be geared toward media outside of gaming for the majority.

Then I guess the downside is multiplayer/co op would be fractured if a game is 30fps vs 60fps?

I don't see ps4.5 being an issue to people who bought in early for ps4, various outlets have some good trade in offers that would make the jump easy

@NFJSupreme: 1080p and 60fps in most modern games requires good hardware actually. Even the 980 struggles to achieve that in many recent games at max settings.

@BigBadBully: it doesn't matter what specs another person is playing on as far as multiplAyer goes and the same disk could easily work on both models. Especially if it's just upgraded GCN hardware with the same design. PC games run on thousandsome of different configurations they can make a game run on two no problem.

@Juub1990: consoles don't run games at max settings. Running games at the settings console run them, at 1080p and 60fps takes,minimal hardware

I thought they were still doing the market research. Sony must having been planning to burn gamers from early on.

Well you say it at MAX settings, 1080p 60FPS on high settings is easier to achieve,alto all depends on what you are shooting for.

60fps on custom high settings vs 60fps on absolute max is quite the difference in how demanding they are, you drop MSAA down, draw distance, shadows down a notch and bam huge fps boost

I really hope that this upgrade to 4K is only about movies and multimedia features.

Affecting games would be very stupid, in my opinion. Sure, games would still be compatible with the older models, but devs attention would move to the new hardware. As a consequence, we would never see the level of optimization we see when devs play with the same hardware for an entire generation.

I hate Sony's approach of producing half backed products at affordable prices... PSVR and this... This will only work if the same games works on both only at different resolutions.

At this stage 60 fps at 1080 is the dream of all console gamers not 30 at 4K

Could be sony using the popularity of the PlayStation brand to push new 4k TVs and perhaps media.

MS start talking about an upgraded console and Sony end up the ones doing it LOL

If this equates to a generation of split games on different powered consoles, to me, we as the consumers have officially been duped by this creatively barren joke of an Industry.

Ha I guessed the PS4k name right. I think they will upgrade the Move controller next and maybe the PlayStation Kinect too. They need to if you want the very best PSVR experience. Milked.

@howmakewood: wuddnt be surprised if this is only cuase they got werd xbone was upgrading. I swear besides live arcade and party i just dont get any good feelings from ms's xbox division. Windows is like my fav too besides phones

4K doesn't seem that big of a jump to me. I tried out my PC on a 55" 4K Samsung last week, and it as good as going from 480P to 1080P.

It actually looked worse on the 4K. The picture was good, but the motion wasn't. I think I'm too used to 120hz+ refresh rates now.

Ye it's very well possible that they are only doing it because MS has plans on doing it and ye xbox division has been transmitting S.O.S signals for quite a while now

This is not the right way to go about this, I don't even understand its point in existing, both of these consoles can already output 4K video.

That's going to backfire horribly, if they made a 4K console that would be understandable, but simply creating a system that's going to output the same resolution that games do now at a higher framerate? That's a huge burn on the community, it's going to fracture things and piss a lot of people off...

So the question is how are they going to handle generational splits from here on out? Are they going to treat consoles like PCs and have developers pick and choose what versions of the console to support? Are they going to have unlimited BC between consoles from here on out? Are you going to buy a game and be able to play it on multiple consoles with the game auto adjusting its settings?

Lots of questions.

Day one, not because of 4k, but because Im annoyed of some of the problems my current PS4 gives out at time such as randomly ejecting the disc, and I dont like the touch sensitive power button.

It's going to instill the mindset in people of "well you just beta tested our product, sorry you're out all that money now, we hope you'll spend even more money and get the real PlayStation 4".

If they would have said "next generation we're going to be doing upgradable hardware mid generation", that would have prepared people for it, this is a bomb dropping.

@dynamitecop: or keep your awesome ps4 and continue to play the same games thathat will also work up the ps4k if you choose to upgrade. So long as they exist in the same ecosystem it wot fracture anything. Nintendo does it with the ds. Cellphones do it. So long as nothing changes for existing ps4 it will be better received than you think

No it won't, this wasn't a part of the plan, this is a mid-step introduction in a generation that no one was prepared for.

Do you know how many people would not have purchased a PlayStation 4 with this knowledge available? Almost everyone, this is a bad idea, not in itself, but them doing it already two years into an existing generation with no warning. Something like this is something you inform your consumer demographic about years in advance and for the next generation of hardware.

Every existing PS4 owner got burned for money if this happens, every single one, and they'll be left feeling they were sold a lie.

I won't be buying anymore Playstation's until Sony can finally deliver more than a single good title every three years.

I'm looking more at what Nintendo has to offer next gen. Hope they don't call flat on their face like Wii U

It will have VR built it and you just put the console on you head. Sign me up.

The moment I'm told I can't play PS4k games on my launch day PS4 is the day I never buy another PS game ever again.

This should be interesting once the E3 gets here.

I think maybe that everyone should tell him that.

I seem to recall they did the same thing with the PSP. Doubled the RAM. Some later games could take advantage of it (KH I think) but still ran on the older hardware.

Its looking increasingly likely that both Sony and MS will be releasing upgraded consoles then... which generally speaking, I'm OK with.

But as I said previously, they cannot alienate the original buyers of their consoles, those who don't want to/can't afford to upgrade. If they do, there'll be a massive backlash, which I'll be apart of.
