PS4 games playable on PS5 consoles

The overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles.

• Select PS4 games will benefit from the PS5 console’s Game Boost, which may make PS4 games run with a higher or smoother frame rate.
• Although many PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles, some functionalities that were available on the PS4 console may not be available on PS5 consoles. In addition, some PS4 games may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior when played on PS5 consoles.
• Before purchasing add-ons to play with your PS4 games on PS5 consoles, please try to boot and play your PS4 games on your PS5 console to see if you are happy with the play experience.
• Please note, playing PS VR games on a PS5 console requires a PlayStation VR headset, a PS camera (sold separately from PS5 console) and a PS camera adaptor (no purchase required).
• Always update your PS5 console to the latest version of the system software.

Upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc on a PS5 console with a disc drive

To upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc to the digital PS5 version, you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console (or create an account).
2. Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
3. Go to the game hub for the PS4 game.
4. Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
5. Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
6. After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

It looks like PlayStation is delivering on their promise.

I would like to know what games fall into this category. If most of the games are just going to play like they are on the Pro, then that is a bummer.

That's neat, but is till don't care. Not destroying my disc drive and ssd with ps4 games.

Disappointing. Hopefully it's in a better state if/when I get a PS5.

With all the excitement of my future XSX coming up, I keep forgetting the ps5 behemoth is coming too.

So you may or may not get better performance and you may or may not get errors and unexpected behaviour when playing PS4 games.

I have Robinson the Journey. It was one of my first PSVR games and where I learned that walking games in VR make me nauseous after about 15 minutes.

So only losing a single game that makes me nauseous anyway, not too shabby.

Well it will just brute force some games , maybe games with variable resolution and framerates will benefit of this, a game that was 1440p with variable resolutions is going to be 4K now. Good.

xbox uses boost mode for there last gen games and there running at 4k/60 on the series x.

so the ones that are playing in 4k/60 on the series x in there last hands on preview that are multiplat should run the same on the ps5 using boost mode.

boost mode is not limited to ps pro or one x specs. I know im no tech guy but that's how developers coded there games to run on the pro and one x they just added boost mode. one x has more power so it ran those third party games better because it used boost mode to get those levels of performance on the one x over the pro version.

sony is also forcing any game that comes out after the last of us 2 has to have boost mode. so any first party and third party game from now on that is made for the ps4 has to have boost mode.

games like ghost was made with boost mode so I waiting for the ps5 before I play it. that game looks great and want to play at 4k/60 even though 30 does not bother me. but I want to look crisp in 4k.

my base ps4 is starting to look dated in 1080p and my pro is dead so unless I want to pay sony to fix it its just sitting there.

to be fair he said tested over a hundred of them. but being as it is the same architect inside the ps5 they all should run fine. I think sony ps4 warning is like the cancer warning on cig packs were it says may cause cancer. but doesn't mean you will get cancer. same with ps4 games on the ps5 may cause it to not work properly. doesn't mean it will just covering there ass just in case.

Lots of new info and very much expected. Digital games and save data can instantly be redownloaded from your library, or transferred over Wi-Fi or extended storage. Also, interesting they point out that HDR is always turned on for PS5. Does this mean playing PS4 games without HDR will automatically have it? It would be the same as MS adding HDR functionality to BC.

By the way, I didn't know there was a second Afro Samurai game. I need to look up Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One. I did play the first game but not the other one with the big teddy bear head version of that spin-off Afro Samurai.

those multiplat games they were using with the hands on preview with the series x all had boost mode so the ps5 will also play those games at 4k/60 using boost mode.

series x uses boost mode to achieve 4k/60.

but we will see. there is a reason sony is forcing ps4 games after the last of us 2 to all be done with boost mode.

Looks grand to me. I was expecting a bit of a disaster with the boost mode for unpatched games on the PS4 pro but it never materialised. it broke a couple of games but no major drama.

So i would imagine the vast majority of PS4 games will just work on the PS5.

It'll be ineresting to see what games get a boost. i would imagine anything with an unlocked multiplyer will get a nice boost anyway. Those with dynamic resolutions may just stay pinned to the highest resolution they support too maybe.

As long as they work and work at least as well as they do on a PS4 though then i'm happy.

I'm sure any game with dynamic resolution and variable frame rate with be able to use the boost. This will be good for God of War since it struggled to hit 60fps in performance mode, usually it was around 45fps.

That doesn't say that only those games would be playable at launch. He isn't the Xgoon, you are.

Fanboys excuse why PS4 didn’t really support PS3 backward compatibility was because the PS3 architect was so complex or some crap. What excuses are they’re using now why PS5 doesn’t support backward fully? The PS5 suppose to be more open source and powerful and have faster SSD but somehow they’re completely clueless to have full backward compatibility. They rather have you pay for PSNot?!
