PS Move has shipped 10.5 million thus far SONY reported. With Support Engineer Gabe Anh saying ''Move is part of our DNA at SONY''... Although I disagree. Does SW think SONY will sell more than this by the end of the year??

P.S.: Shipped not units sold to consumers.

Source.Other source.

SW comment.

I hope they forget about it :| I don't want this to turn out like M$ and the kinect... I don't care how much you sony fanboys want sony to succeed I want to play different games with my console not just having the same ones remade every 2 years like xbox360. I feel bad for then... but they don't even care why should I? :P

That's pretty good I guess, especially for something that isn't marketed to hell and back like the Kinect is. What are the current sales numbers for Kinect? Anybody know?

Actually quite bad unfortunatly. The sales includes Naivation controllers as seperate units in the same count. So it could be that only 5 million people purchased one, but got the nav controller at the same time. I dont think that many sales makes it a failure, but it certainly is not good sales when the seperate units have been combined.

How long has Move been out for? A year right? Then it's pretty bad then?

It launched 15th September 2010. So a year and a half.

Compared to kinect sales, its done very poorly. I purchased the nav controller and 2 moves. So then I count as three of those purchases.

Not good.

Not terrible but not a huge success.

This is actually good news for us gamers. This means that they won't be focusing on motion controls for their next console.

I feel as though we will never know what Sony could have done with the move, as they failed to deliver any games and really support the device properly.

Don't know, don't care. I don't even think Sony cares about the Move much to be honest, they don't do much with it. But I hear Killzone and LBP work great with it. Still not what I'm into.

^This. By the end of this generation and Move failing. SONY can be like "Let's focus more on Motion Controls and the casual market''.

Then Next-Gen we'll have SONY do more of Move 2.0 and we're all screwed.

It probably made Sony some money, so I guess from that perspective it was a success, but from a gamer perspective it literally did next to nothing, so in that respect it failed.

Have you played any of Sony's first party shooter that support Move? They control extremely well; Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 especially.

Yes. I even got a sharpshooter for KZ3.

While they worked well and were fun for a little while. In all cases I found that they just controlled better with the pad. This led to me not using them, and eventually trading in my sharpshooter, even though I still have the move.

Tumble is great and the little one loved it aswell. But they really didnt support it enough for me. Throwing it into games that controll better without it isnt enough.

Sold more than I thought, which is good I suppose. Nothing I'm interested in. So long as Sony doesn't go full blown casual like MS and Ninty...I will remain a happy camper.

It's good to see though that PS3 owners didn't go crazy with this. I'm glad SONY doesn't support it as much as MS supports Kinect.

Close to 60 million in Sales (if not more) and 10.5 million (including separate purchases). Not necessarily bad, but not good either.. This one would've been thrown in the trash bin if not for the success of the Kinect.

It's actually horrible.

10.5 million have been on store shelves and distributor inventories.

It doesn't mean that 10.5 million units are in people's homes.

And out of that 10.5 million, consider that one complete Move unit basically means 3 units have to be shipped.

So in reality, only 3.5 million complete Move units have been shipped, while 18 million complete Kinect units have been shipped.

That's a huge difference.

If you look at it that way then how many of the 18 million kinects are 360 bundles? I'm sure MS doesn't report the kinect, the 360 and the 360/kinect bundles as different units. Its an oldeasy marketing technique to make people think the things are selling like hot cakes and its the new fad. I'm not saying both are crap or selling like crap but both haven't really done the sells or things both company thought or promised.

Not that good when you take in the big picture. Despite the Kinect having its fair share of bad games most people can at least name a fair few Kinect games that have come out and the fact the Kinect is still being talked about. Where as the Move really isn't doing much of anything at the moment.

Yeah but the only reason Kinect is being talked about as much as it is, is because thats the only games coming out from MS.

"We also verified that the numbers include both PlayStation Move controllers and Navigation Controllers combined"

In that case the numbers make sense.

Thing is, you get 1 Kinect unit per household, and 1+ Move parts per household. If I where to assume and guess arbitrarily abit to get a sense, let's say the ratio of wands to nav controllers is 2:1 etc. (I'll spare you the reasoning and math), it would be something like maybe 3-4 million households that are owners of 1 or more Move units, whereas Kinect is in almost 18m different households.

As a reference, Nintendo has sold 65m Wiimotes in the US alone.

Thing is, even if the kinect came with the console, its still only counting as one unit. I purchased two moves and a navigation controller. That means I am three of those 10 million sales. Most other people will account for more than one sale also.

Bundle or not, most likely 360 owners are going to be one sale each out of the numbers. No one buys a kinect bundle then another kinect, so are not likely to be more than one sale each.

Crossel777

Those numbers are actually **** considering they count Move+nav as separate and include both in that number. The Nav unit doesn't function without the Move wand.

And then there is the matter of one household owning multiple Move/nav units, which means the actual number of households who are Move owners are much less than the number Sony gave.

I mention household because a household typically purchases one copy of a game.

So the install base of Move is actually "5m", most likely less, whereas there are almost 18m households with Kinect.

Move failed, which is reflected by its non existant lineup.

That's positive for Sony. If you compare it to the Kinect then it's not so good. As long as it brings a profit then you can't really lose.

Well Sony considers one controller or one camera as "one unit shipped."

To get the same experience as Kinect, you need a camera and two Move controllers.

-

I wouldn't be surprised if only like 2 million people or less actually had the Move in their homes.

We'll probably see Sony discontinue the peripheral soon.

That's pretty bad, considering they sold 8 million by April 2011, so that means they've sold 2.5 million in the 10-11 months since then. Talk about a huge drop off. Is this worldwide too? If so, damn.
