@MonsieurX: Why would you have to pay anything in a BETA? lmao!! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Gamers are testing PSNow for Sony and they actually want gamers to PAY for the games. What a joke. Sure a monthly or yearly service is coming, but when? How much will that cost? If Sony is charging these high prices for rental, the service will probably be $99+ a year and $20 a month. You'd be better off sticking with Gamefly and your last gen systems.

umm.. MS DID cater to their fans when they complained, remember?

Exactly. Why do you think there is a Kinectless XBox One now on retail shelves. Customers speak, Microsoft listens and changes are made. Sony doesn't listen. They just feed off their competition's misfortunes. This is a complete disaster though, just like HOME was. lol!!

@MonsieurX: I expect these prices to change really soon because ... they are ridiculous !

The fact that the Beta testers are actually paying these prices now to test PSNow before it's launch is the joke of the century. Why are the prices already in place if they are waiting for freedback from gamers? Sure they can show the prices, but for every Beta tester on PSNow, it should be free to test all those games. This is Sony's way of scamming their loyal gamers. Glad Microsoft is going a different route with an emulation software.

LMAO at El Tormo trying desperately to damage control this disaster. Yeah they are Beta prices El Tormo and Sony Beta Testers are actually paying those price while testing PSNow, you stupid moron. TCHBO!! Where is I_can_haz. I need to see some damage controling from moron #2.

And how is that relevant to the conversation?

Didn't lems want everything Sony gave? And look what they got. I'm not talking about used game policy or price.

The only way this service is ever going to be successful is if they allow you to subscribe to it for $10 per month and have unlimited access to the library. These are old games, so that fee is more than fair.

The sad and funny part is that Sony fans will bend over and take it and get milk willingly wanting more from Sony then they will spin PS Now like it was the best service.

No they wont! It will fail unless the prices are decent enough to justify it vs renting from Game Fly, or buying used. If Sony goes high on the prices, they will find out quickly that people aren't using the service much.

It also has to be good enough to make people want to run an ethernet cable, because most people use WiFi & high prices wont lure people into doing that. PS gamers are tighter about spending than Xbox owners.

I wont rent on PS Now unless the prices are these or less; 1 day $2.99, 7 days $7.99, 30 days $14.99. Any higher than that & I will avoid using the service. I will rent from Game Fly or buy used, as I have always done.

Per Sony, the prices (unless its a first party game) are decided by the publisher's and not them. I agree the prices are insane but its not Sony making pricing decisions for others games.

"Why do you have to pay $15 for a 90-day rental when it costs $15 to buy the game on PS3?" Because you saved how much you are going to pay fora PS3. This service isn't for everyone. It feels like it's for those who wants to be gamers just like iphone gamers.

and this is why i prefer to own physical copies of games.. this is great idea but the pricing is quite ridiculous here.. i think a subscription service would be preferable overall, but how expensive would this be for the amount of games you would have at your disposal, maybe like 50£$ for x amount games for a year with unlimited time restraints.. idk..

@cainetao11:

WTF are you talking about?

I don't see any sony fans up in arms defending these prices idiot. This is not like what you lems did for years with XBL when it didn't offer anything special over PSN which was completely free. I only see people speculating that the beta prices might not be final, how the hell is that apologist defending? Get off your fanboy soap box because you are you are preaching to the to wrong crowd with your apologist BS.

Sony is listing the prices, sony fans don't have any say in what went behind choosing them, and I only see Tormentos making a defending argument for in any of this so what the hell is your idiotic "sony apologists" post about? you should probably direct your post to him alone.

unless you are saying 1 sony fans = "teh cows" stop talking out of your ass as if you are making some kind of point here. There aren't "responses" from "apologists" doing the idiotic defense of rip-off pricing like you lems did for years with XBL when it didn't offer anything other than the ability to unlock online play.

There are NO sony fan"s" trying to defend the pricing of what is listed here other than maybe tormentos, if so please point them out or STFU. That goes for all the idiot lems in here aiming this at Sony fans as if they are defending this.

end rant/

On Topic:

I completely agree with the article. It is completely stupid pricing and I wouldn't pay to support a shitty rip-off pricing system like that on principle alone. As I said with my very first post on the rumored pricing its completely stupid.

if they didn't have a flat pricing for an annual service sub or monthly to play all the games on the service then they should have just given the option to buy the old games we want on PS4 and skip the rental BS all together.

Should just be a subscription service. Paying for individual games is stupid.

they did say the were gonna have that option, i think i remember rumors way back saying it would be like $90 a year tho

Yeah that's dumb. I was expecting maybe double netflick's price since movies and show cost less than games. But $90? **** that.

Let me say right now I think these prices are atrocious, but I also dislike renting at all as a collector. I never have favored renting. If I like a game, I want to own it, but as a kid I took rentals because it's all my parents wanted to spend. A weekend here or there with a game. Regarding PS+, I was invited to participate in a BETA for FREE rentals, so I graciously accepted only because the price was right. I even picked up and completed a few games for free.

However, as far as Netflix's prices, if they charge $8 ($7.99 a month, right for SD only streaming) a month to stream and you multiply that $8 times twelve months, Netflix's prices work out to $96 a year. Double Netflix's prices would be $192 a year. I should also point out it's $8.99 for Netflix HD streaming for two screens and $11.99 a month for 4 HD screens a month. At max, with only streaming ($12 a month x 12 months) it's $144 a year for HD Netflix streaming to four screens. The prices add up when you think about it.

Ahh I guess I thought it was less than that. I just leech off my families netflick sub. lol

$90 a year upfront or will it be broken down monthly?

there is a BIG difference as entry barrier is the hook

The entirety, was a dumb post and yeah I am pretty objective when it comes to claims like this. I could actually quote posters who making comments, if I am going to make a blanket statement like yours, to have my argument actually make sense. Your post on the other hand makes 0 sense looking at the responses from sony fans here.

Look at the bold, Where are these "My lord, Band aiding excuses for Sony, Sony apologists" posts for the pricing Sony has listed for the PS now beta you are seeing in this thread?

Go through this thread and realize how desperate and fanboyish your post was when you couldn't apply it to any sony fans except maybe tormentos. This came about because of how eager you are to bash sony fans and not being level headed enough to realize that your post didn't reveal anything except maybe the fact that you didn't read any of the actual responses.

@cainetao11 said:

Reading some of the responses, my lord. If Nintendo or valve or MS made a beta with these prices it would be the worst disaster in global history. But the band aiding and excuse making for Sony is off the charts with some. We know its a beta, we know they want feedback, but where is their logic? $5 for 4 hours? They need feedback to know the prices make no sense? Are you sony apologists kidding?

Your arguments are all over the place and don't support your claims in any way.

When MS unveiled the xbone, there was massive backlash. In response to gamers' complaints, MS removed the restrictive DRM.

When gamers complained about the mandatory kinect, MS listened and offered the xbone without it.

You can say the xbone is in last place and that you weren't talking about certain instances that prove you wrong, but it really doesn't help your argument.

And my vision is fine, but no, it's not relevant.

My argument is still valid. Sony caters to its fans more than MS does and you cant deny that.

Just submit already lil fella

Now you're twisting your argument. Your first claim was that MS doesn't address gamers' complaints. Now that you've been proven wrong, you're saying MS does cater to their fans, just not as much as Sony.

I never claimed that MS caters to complaints more than Sony, But now that you brought it up, what exactly had Sony done to address their fans' complaints?

No, you are twisting my words, I said that Sony caters to their fans, unlike Microsoft. My response specifies that Microsoft has a higher rarity to cater than Sony does.

The funny part is, there are no complaints with the PS4 because Sony has done everything right with it.

Swing and a miss.

How am I twisting your words? "Sony caters to their fans, unlike Microsoft," means that Sony DOES cater, MS DOES NOT; there's no other way to interpret that. And when I called you out on that, saying that MS does in fact address complaints against them, I got back brilliant arguments such as: "Xbone is in last place," "You have tunnel vision," "Lemmings are jealous of Cows," and "I'm not talking about when MS catered to their fans." It wasn't until after all of that nonsense that you finally said that they both cater, but Sony does more so, acting like that's what you were saying from the start.

And that would be my point that you just missed - If Sony has no complaints to address, then MS has addressed more complaints by default.

Listened to their fans? You mean like charging for the online services something the PS3 fanboys hollered to high heaven they would never pay for, and it was the reason why the 360 sucked in their eyes?

If you're a PS+ member and you don't get free access, I'll have zero interest in Playstation Now. I'll just keep my PS3 and download PS1 and PS2 games for it.

Ok, my bad fella.

That's the best you could come up with when referencing how off the charts your statements were about "sony apologists"?

So no actual defense of Sony's pricing for by sony fans for this like lems did for years with XBL then? Gotcha. Just a few sony fans speculation on the unknown beta pricing process like I orginally said? Ok Gotcha

And no, that isn't a defense of this pricing setup, its speculation on feedback for it.

And so when challenged to produce even 1 poster who fit the claims you were making about sony apologists when I said, "There are NO sony fan"s" trying to defend the pricing of what is listed here other than maybe tormentos, if so please point them out or STFU" you couldn't do it!!! No surprise.

So basically, you simply confirmed what I originally said in my response to you, you need to realize that..

Ok my bad fella.

I'm confused who was this in response to? I think what I said had gotten misconstrued. I'm not defending Sony at all. I'm simply saying that charging money for something, something that has never been truly done before on this scale, forces the user to be semi serious. What I had said makes sense. Had this thing been free then Sony would get a bajillion feedbacks most of which would prove useless in developing some kind of price model.

The prices are so astronomical that nobody would use the service. Considering they've put god knows how much money into R&D I'm sure they don't want this as an immediate failure. This is probably a test for what kind of price model works best and what the end consumer demographic is.

@Heirren: hey dude no ill will at all. If I misconstrued my bad. My point to kinectthedots was that anybody NOT posting this is bad is basically not how cows would handle it if say Nintendo or MS had done it. They would be raging over the greed. Seriously, do you need feedback to know 5 dollars for a 4 hour rental is absurd in the gaming marketplace? I meant nothing bad to you with the reference.

Why would you take me asking you a question as resigning? If you're adamant in pretending you didn't change your argument, I won't stop you, but anyone who can read knows the truth. Either way, I've already put your first claim to rest and I'm working on the second (which you seem to be evading); so it really doesn't make a difference.

So I'll ask again, What complaints with the PS3 did Sony fix with the PS4? I can think of one or two things. On the other hand, MS made a complete shift in their console's philosophy, changing dozens of things both hardware and software in an effort to please their fans.

Enlighten me.

1) $5 for four hours! $30 for 90 days! 2) You can buy the whole game on Amazon for $17.4

Why do you have to pay $15 for a 90-day rental when it costs $15 to buy the game on PS3?

1) Those prices are insane. There is a weird digital insanity though. Digital is more convenient but nobody is cutting rental deals. To me it's crazy that I can get a 24-hour Blu-ray rental for $1.50 at one of the 5 Red Box machines less than a mile from my house but if go on PSN, Amazon, etc, HD rentals of the same film would cost me $5.

2) You can't find that game anywhere on PS4 for $17. That is the one wonky thing about these complaints. The prices are crazy but bringing up that the PS3 version costs less doesn't matter to me because you're they aren't charging you $15 for a 90-day rental on PS3. It's $15 for a 90-day PS4 rental of a game that doesn't actually exist on PS4.

$15 is crazy though. I guess they're appealing to the crowd that buys a $60 game and then trades in for Gamestop bucks like two weeks later and loses like $15-20 on the transaction. Maybe that price is attractive to them. To be honest, there are some games I would do that for, but I'd prefer it to be a download that expired in 90-days rather than a video stream.

Every system in the history of gaming has had disks getting stuck inside? That's quite an accomplishment from the early Atari cartridge based systems as well as the Intellivision , Magnavox Odyssey and Colecovision.

Minus the problems the Atari 5200 had with controllers, pretty much all of the older systems were durable and lasted .

I would say nice try at spin, but that would just be sarcasm......

Sony carefully calculated theses high prices. They are important to bring profit to a system that already has too much overhead.

@Gue1: Yeah, they seem a bit better now. There's a few games I wouldn't mind renting for a week at the new price, unfortunately, not the ones available (well, Enslaved, but that's $5 on steam and not even featured yet). I'm still not sold on the longest rentals or the 4 hour.
