@Antwan3K: best thing I can tell you is to give it a try! It’s definitely not the same thing for me lol

i've already tried cloud gaming on several different devices that i already own.. i think cloud gaming is just fine as an optional way to play but likely has a way to go before becoming the primary way to play..
and lol, maybe you should give cloud gaming a try on your phone with your PS controller to truly see if the PS Portal was worth an additional $200.. 🤷♂️
@Antwan3K: So I should be buying one of those more expensive devices?
I have no interest in laptops or tablets.
but i'm sure you have a smartphone.. so that doesn't erase the idea that you could have essentially had the same experience from the devices you already own..
if you feel that the bigger screen is worth the $200 asking price, more power to you.. but clearly it seems certain people only "discovered" how useful cloud gaming is once Sony released a first-party device for that purpose.. 🤷♂️
@Antwan3K: It's not the same experience 😅
Phones are too small. Portal is just big enough and it's all you need to carry around.
Very easy to figure out.
As for your second para, you'll believe what you want. 🤷♂️
Yea, Antwan is going to try to convince himself as much as he can that the Portal is not worth it 😆

Well... I mean, worth is a matter of opinion I'd say for sure... I think for a lot of people the obvious drawbacks of portal make it a baked potato... For me, even if I could look past the fact that portal is a brainless device that has no offline functionality or dedicated component to the experience, a consumer also needs to contend with the fact that you must own a 500 dollar host console for the 200 dollar portal even works...
For half the price a knowledgeable gamer could have a steam deck that plays more games, has better performance and doesn't need a host console or internet to play games.
Further... Sony already supports what portal does on other devices and has since before portal released.... They even make hand grips for your phone and everything...
At the end of the day folks are gonna game on what they game on, but looking back at the macro view of what's available and what has value, questioning Playstation portal is an easy topic... It's a headscratcher even... Not unlike ps pro. Another head scratcher.

Brainless device lol. Your post is full of nonsense. It plays all of my PS5 games and now you can stream PS Plus Premium games without the PS5. The quality is excellent and you don't have to worry about if your hardware can handle it or not (unlike the Steam Deck). The only exception may be playing online multiplayer, but I would love to see how Steam Deck handles that. And as far as I know, the battery life on the Steam Deck sucks. Portal easily gets you 4-5 hours. The Portal form factor is wonderful and is vastly superior to playing on a smartphone. There's a reason why this is the hottest PS accessory of the year. But people will always choose what they want to believe. At $200, it's a steal.

Like I said... People hold value in different light. Kind of funny that you are trying to convince me that a streaming device offers more peice of mind than a dedicated device that factually has a bigger, more diverse library of games that can be played without the need of a 500 dollar add on. See, it's just not adding up for me.... But happy you've found a portable friend.

Oh yea, what big PC exclusives are you playing on your Steam Deck? Let's hear about all of the great diverse games you're playing on it.
Your Steam Deck compatibility and performance varies by game, yes? With Portal, if it plays on my PS5, it plays on the Portal.
Sure, you can play Steam Deck offline, i'll give you that. But in this day and age, where isn't there a wifi connection? In the Park? Are you playing your Deck in the Park? lol
Well, PS5 is the most popular console, so for a lot of people, it's a cheap accessory that offers a great value for what it does.
@SolidGame_basic: Oh no doubt every gaming device offers next to no parity, but I'll tell you it was really cool going from God of War, to the master chief collection, to Spiderman, to sunset overdrive, to helldivers 2 on one device...
Also your "where isn't there internet?" argument makes your battery argument moot. 🤷
Performance varies, but so they do with streaming devices.... Again, moot.
Like Ive said before... I lm not shocked that folks love playing their games on a modern portable device. It's an awesome way to game. For those who exist within the Playstation ecosystem, it's their only choice at the moment... I just think value swings wildly if you're not married to Playstation.

again, if you think the $200 price tag is worth it for a bigger screen, that's great.. no argument there; it's your money..
but again, you are literally already carrying a phone in your pocket that can basically do the same thing.. 🤷♂️ for most people who already own large phones, tablets, and/or laptops, the Portal isn't providing anything..
@TheEroica: I have portal so I can play more, not for my only gaming device like steam deck.
If it was completely up to me, I'd never game on a handheld.
I've been over playing on the phone many times, not interested.
Do you use it? Curious... How often do you choose portal over TV?

lol, seems like you're the one desperately trying to justify paying an extra $200 for something you were already able to do on the devices you already own.. 😆
@TheEroica: Yes I do, and I would never choose any handheld over a TV 😆
Large family, gotta share tv.
Yeah, see for me it was that occupying the TV cut me off from the family. The TV keeps me segregated, so I dislike it at this phase in life. I also ended up having a fairly mobile lifestyle for a while. I got hired to tour the country as a guitar player and I was on planes and hotels all the time... I got a DS back then for travel and fell in love with portable gaming... Vita, switch... Now steam deck.
Feel like gabe should at least send me a Christmas card for the conversations I've had with people on planes watching me play elden ring at 35k feet.

honestly, i'm just giving you a hard time.. i've said repeatedly that if you find the price is worth it, that's all good.. enjoy.. 👍
@Antwan3K: Glad to see we all agree xbox consoles are worthless then.
"worthless" in the sense that you don't need one?.. if that's your definition, sure..
you certainly don't need one to play Xbox games.. heck, arguably you don't need to a PlayStation console to play their games either.. and you certainly didn't need to buy that PS Portal..
i guess they're all worthless.. 😊
@Antwan3K: One actually does have exclusives....for a time.
Can't believe you wasted money on Xbox. What a waste.
lulz timed exclusives.. still means it's worthless.. 🤷♂️
if i wasted money on an Xbox, you definitely wasted money on a PS Portal..
What a waste indeed.. especially when you could have achieved the same thing on your phone.. but hey, these worthless products aren't going to shill for themselves.. enjoy that "bigger screen".. 😊👍
@Antwan3K: Cool, we all wasted money on useless products.
Your waste cost more though 🤣
well considering the fact that you needed a PS5 (which, btw, is also "worthless") in order for your PS Portal to even function when you first bought it, you hold the crown for buying the most pointless product and most gullible customer.. 🤣
goes to show what people are willing to buy as long as it has a certain logo on the box.. 😏
@Antwan3K: We've been over this, PS5 actually has games you can't find elsewhere 🤣
Ok, im done having fun. Enjoy the weekend 🙂
and i've already responded with "lulz timed exclusives".. 🤣 boy, how the bar has been lowered.. 😂
enjoy the weekend as well 😊
to be clear, i'm not being serious here.. i'm glad you enjoy your purchase and i'm glad there's more ways to play the games you own..
Planning on getting portal soon. Being a first time dad i dont have much time to sit on one couch for a long time. But for those who got one, how is the latency for cloud streaming? I saw some couple of reviews latency is quite noticeable compared to remote play.
