Please help me in deciding between Ps3 and Xbox 360.Long read.Plz read all.

Well i have been out of touch with gaming news and reviews and all of that for quite some time now.But it's finally time now.In 2 weeks i will have the choice of either getting a ps3 or 360.I am hard on reasearch on the internet now.But i want the opinion of u ppl.I know very well this place and wont be basing my decision on what is said here but their r still plenty of ppl here who give out unbiased and intelligent responses.

Ok i am listing out my prefences in gaming and other stuff in detail.

1.Genres or sub-genres I absolutely hate=Rpg's,strategy and fighting games.I also totally dislike tactical shooters.Now it's not that i never play a rpg or a fighter it's just that i want to say that a console having whatever advantages in these genres just doesnt count for me at all.I usually dont like cartoonish games however that is not always true for e.g. i loved okami.

2.My favourite type of games r arguably 3rd person action games.Third person action games like ninja gaiden,god of war,devil may cry,re4,gta,mgs and max payne r my favourite kind of games.However i also love first person shooters no doubt about it.I was very happy with my ps2 for a long time.But then i bought the xbox soley because i was very dissapointed with the quality of shooters on the ps2 and got the xbox only to play some damn shooters.So basically some damn action games is my favourite genre.However the important thing is that i would take a great 3rd person action game anyday over a similarly great FPS.

3.I also LOVE well made adventure games.I loved games like ICO and Dreamfall.However i dont usally enjoy every adventure game that get's good reviews for e.g. SOTC.I also like racing games quite alot whether it be burnout or forza or need 4 speed.In sports games i only play soccer but plenty of it.I also like platformers but only the very good ones.

4.What is my take on online gaming?Well the problem is that i have never played online cuz i dont have broadband but now i will have and cant wait to play online cuz i have waited too long for it.I dont know whether i will get addicted to it or not but the thought of competing online in a game in which i am good at and then climb the rankings certainly seems addicting.

5.Even if a console has a graphical advantage it doesnt really matter to me because i know that both systems have the graphics to satisfy me.However if a console has a SIGNIFICANT graphical advantage like the xbox had over the ps2 then do let me know.

6.The higher price of the ps3 is no problem and the charges for 360 online is also not a problem.I am not concerned with any NON-GAMING activities of either consoles.

I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear but I recommend looking over the lists of upcoming games for both consoles. Watch some videos, read some previews and decide for yourself. The biggest problem in your case from what I can see is that you have specific gaming tastes. It'll be easier to get a better answer to your question if you simply do the game research yourself.

Of course, I'd still recommend deciding yourself even if you didn't have specific tastes because of fanboyism but I'm sure you are already aware of that.

Well, If we can all cast our bias aside... It is my honest opinion that this generation of gaming is blurring the lines of what one console has over another.  So let me first say, you really can't make a bad choice...  I went with the 360 on the basis of its projected game line-up through 08' its stellar On-Line service (musch better than Sony, few would dissagree) and the fact that Microsoft is being  more agressive this gen in capturing the attention of gamers and their doing it with GAMES... Their securing exclusives left and right and snatching Sonys out from underneath them.  Further, Achievments are awesome and keep you playing games long after you've beaten them.  Lastly, MS has a couple franchises and developers that I can't get enough of... Halo, Gears of War, BioWare games, Ubisoft's best work, Splinter Cell...etc... Whatever you choose, good luck, but the 360 is the real deal you can bet on it.

God of War 3, MGS4, Devil May Cry, GTA 4 are all on the PS3 (sure some are on 360, but not God of War). Killzone should also be a fairly decent game from what the press who have seen it are saying.

In the end, a lot of the things you say sound like you would like a PS3 better. You don't like RPGs, so you wouldn't be picking up Mass Effect. Halo 3 is the only great, non tactical shooter for 360. Other than that, none of the 360 games appeal to me as much as the ones coming out for 360. There's a thread somewhere on here where a guy made a list of every game coming out, and highlighted the 360 and PS3 exclusives. The PS3 will be slow, but will have lots of good games coming out this Fall.

Both systems are pretty good but considering the type of games you like, you will probably be happier getting a PS3. There are a few good action games on the 360 but none that stand up to titles like ICO or DMC. Gears is one of the best looking games I've ever seen but lately the better looking games have been coming out on PS3... with Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Lair both on the way within the next two months... both of which sound like games that would be right up your alley.

Also, the best first person shooter available right now is on the PS3, R:FOM. But of course, Halo 3 will be out this fall. I can't make any judgements about Halo 3 b/c it isn't out yet, but I can tell you that Halo 1&2 don't come close to R:FOM, particularly the single player portion. But at the very least I expect Halo 3's multiplayer to be at least as good or better than R:FOM. Then of course Killzone 2 and Warhawk are on they're way out. Warhawk looks awesome so far... the verdicts still out on Killzone 2 until we see some gameplay... but considering what the system has been able to produce so far, I actually have high hopes for this one.

Interestingly enough, the games I'm most looking forward to on the 360 this year are rpg's. If you don't have an interest in these types of games, you would only have two games to look forward to on the system all year: Halo 3 and Bioshock. I like both systems but honestly the ps3 has the most attractive line up this year.

Here's my 2 cents.  First off I own a Wii and 360.  I bought a Wii for 2 reasons,1.)first-party games are second to no-one. 2.)great potential in control scheme.

Now why I bought a 360 over the PS3

1.)Price.
2.)Games:

Gears of War (third person shooter, no tactics)
Rainbow Six Vegas (yes its considered a tactical shooter, but its completely different then the previous installments and can be "run-through" like a FPS)
FarCry (first person shooter)
Halo (if you're a fan of futuristic shooters)

I think when it comes down to it, if you're looking for shooters, go with the 360.  Any Adventure/action games are probably mutli-platform, meaning they're on both systems.  So the subtle detail of more shooters on the 360 (what I've listed is only the tip of the iceberg) should be your reason for a 360.

3.)Superb online (4$ a month)

I mean you're probably going to get the same responses.  But if you don't need an unestablished format (Blu-Ray) in your home theatre, then the PS3 is sort of useless considering most of its games including Devil May Cry (as I saw you listed) are headed for the 360 anyways.

I hate to disagree but... no. The Playstations bread and butter is RPG's especially Japanese RPG's.  One big reason it appeals around the globe in Japan... Microsoft has been excellent in fueling American gamers with American games... Shooters of all sorts, FPS on Xbox are in a different league than Sony.  Also, the Halo line is inacurate as well... I could go buy Prey in the bargain bin right now and have a better non tacticle FPS experience than anything on PS3... Go 360 I guarantee you'll thank me...

No offense to you or anything, but if you just click "PS3" and "360" on the top of this very website you get a page full of information on both systems. You can read all of the reviews, click on "upcoming games" and see what's on the way, watch videos, look at screenshots. You really shouldn't be relying on other people to purchase something for you. Especially in a place like this which is full of fanboys.

Look at both systems and decide which is best for you. Simple.

in my opinion, i think PS 3 is worth your money more than Xbox 360 Elite (you'll get the Elite if you plan to buy one right?)

here's reasons:

yeah but when you look at upcoming releases on the wall behind the counter, and see the sequels coming for ps3 to all the cool games you loved on ps2 you will think a lot harder. ratchet & clank, SOTC sequel, jak sequel, gran turismo 5, GOW3, tekken 6, etc, etc. its not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. im saying this for anyone, i know this guy doesnt like fighters but im saying in general.Jack-Napier

Not one of those games is out this year.  

Also, I can't see a huge leap in graphics b/w either system right now, but it is noticeable how much more action a few of the PS3 titles are paking onscreen at one time... really makes the gameplay more immersive. Not sure if that helps. Gears of War on the 360 and Motorstorm on the PS3 are the best games that I have ever played graphically. And Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Lair look better than both of them.

No, you deliberately picked out all of the areas in which the PS3 is at an advantage and put those. And simply say "free vs $50 a year" as if you're getting exactly the same thing with the PS3, but for free.

If you honestly think that was a fair, objective post i genuinely feel sorry for you. And that is not a flame.

Well i have been out of touch with gaming news and reviews and all of that for quite some time now.But it's finally time now.In 2 weeks i will have the choice of either getting a ps3 or 360.I am hard on reasearch on the internet now.But i want the opinion of u ppl.I know very well this place and wont be basing my decision on what is said here but their r still plenty of ppl here who give out unbiased and intelligent responses.

Ok i am listing out my prefences in gaming and other stuff in detail.

1.Genres or sub-genres I absolutely hate=Rpg's,strategy and fighting games.I also totally dislike tactical shooters.Now it's not that i never play a rpg or a fighter it's just that i want to say that a console having whatever advantages in these genres just doesnt count for me at all.I usually dont like cartoonish games however that is not always true for e.g. i loved okami.

2.My favourite type of games r arguably 3rd person action games.Third person action games like ninja gaiden,god of war,devil may cry,re4,gta,mgs and max payne r my favourite kind of games.However i also love first person shooters no doubt about it.I was very happy with my ps2 for a long time.But then i bought the xbox soley because i was very dissapointed with the quality of shooters on the ps2 and got the xbox only to play some damn shooters.So basically some damn action games is my favourite genre.However the important thing is that i would take a great 3rd person action game anyday over a similarly great FPS.

3.I also LOVE well made adventure games.I loved games like ICO and Dreamfall.However i dont usally enjoy every adventure game that get's good reviews for e.g. SOTC.I also like racing games quite alot whether it be burnout or forza or need 4 speed.In sports games i only play soccer but plenty of it.I also like platformers but only the very good ones.

4.What is my take on online gaming?Well the problem is that i have never played online cuz i dont have broadband but now i will have and cant wait to play online cuz i have waited too long for it.I dont know whether i will get addicted to it or not but the thought of competing online in a game in which i am good at and then climb the rankings certainly seems addicting.

5.Even if a console has a graphical advantage it doesnt really matter to me because i know that both systems have the graphics to satisfy me.However if a console has a SIGNIFICANT graphical advantage like the xbox had over the ps2 then do let me know.

6.The higher price of the ps3 is no problem and the charges for 360 online is also not a problem.I am not concerned with any NON-GAMING activities of either consoles.

If u take the effort to read all this and help me out in any way then i will be grateful.Thanks.

No, i dont recall saying anything even remotely like that. Did you by chance read another post, by mistake? On another forum? I remember him saying the PS3 has "loads more and better shooters", me not being able to think of any PS3 shooters other than resistance, and asking him to clarify this for me.

If money isn't an issue, get a 360 now and play Dead Rising, Crackdown, Saints Row and GeoW and then buy a PS3 in about 9 months when quite a few great games will be out for it.

OR, if you are worried about online, get a PS3 first to wet your feet, but also remember that you can get some 360 deals with 1 year free anyway. I bought my 360 camera and that came with 1 year free, but was only the cost of the camera, plus it had 2 free arcade games bundled with it too, all for $50.

Allow me to do what you just did, then:

"Aw man, it's a really simple choice. You're gonna get the core 360, right? Obviously....

So anyway,

Xbox 360 = $299, ps3 = $600 (which one do you want?)

Xbox 360 has proprietary wireless, ps3 has blu-tooth so you cant do LAN parties cause of the interferance (which do you want?)

xbox 360 has five AAAs, PS3 only has 1 (which one do you want?)

Xbox 360 can stream video and music off your PC wirelessly or through a LAN, PS3 cant (which one do you want?)

Clearly you'd answer Xbox 360 for every option. Because i've deliberately set it up that way. That's exactly what you did. And you know it.

I see you've started a fanboy war on this topic :). Just wanted to make sure you get to take a look at an actual unbiased account. Each of the titles in each of my lists are confirmed exclusives... some fanboys would have you believe that Sony doesn't have any more exclusives... and looking at that list that clearly is not the case.

The best thing to do is going to be to read up on as many of those games as you can and watch the vids & screen shots from each one. I'm pretty sure you'll have no problem making your decision for yourself after that.
