Ok sure the blue ray format may be winning the Hd-dvd was BUT is not like is going o be the future...donloadable content IS the future....and plus dvd9 is FAR from dead....anyone heard of a little game called CRYSIS?!?!!?! yeah...well its bigger and better looking than ANY ps3 game and guess what..is being shipped in dvd9....i haven't heard of any pc titles being made for either HD-DVD or blue ray....we don't need need disks...we need bigger HDD....and MSFT is pretty smart...the knew of this and that is why they prefered adding a bigger HDD to the elite rather than HD-DVD player....5 years from now if blue ray wins the format war, it won't matter because people will be too busy downloading movies online...in HDtacubano

So tell me, what do you do if your hard drive fails. When you want to play your media at a friends house without having to take your entire 360 with you. What about when your hard drive fills up? And compare the cost of a bigger hard drive to a movie. You can't exactly download a lot of HD movies when they're 25GB+ in size. What about how long it takes to download such massive media. Just one would take hours at a steady 500KB/s.

So unless you want your console outfitted with 1TB hard drive and shell out a couple hundred extra dollars to download all your games and HD movies, discs are around to stay.

Theres so much nonsense talked about blueray in this forum its unbelievable

Currently there is nooooo way that blueray is needed to store the following game conrtent

Code

Models

Textures

(ie the important stuff)

Game content that is really helped by blueray storage

High def video

High def sound

(ie the luxuries)

I laugh my ass of when i here idiots say "but teh gta is teh limited by teh dvd9"

The size of a game like this will be less limited by disk size, than it is by dev time and cost.

Do you actually believe that blueray alone is magically going to increase the size of games ? Any extra content will have to be modelled and textured the same as for dvd9 content, and this will be always limited by the fact that next gen art-work is far and away the most expensive and time consuming aspect of creating next gen games.

totaly OT, but, where is your sig from? its adorable. *anime nerd*

anyway, Saying MS didn't support HD-DVD is total and utter damage control. Remember .. what... 10.. 11 months.. a year ago? Everyone was saying "OMG OMG HD-DVD >>>>>>> BLU-RAY!!! SONY R GOING 2 LUSE!one". And now that Blu-ray is starting to emerge the winner (just like with DVD), All of a sudden MS didn't support HD-DVD. Thats bogus.

MS didn't include an HD-DVD drive in their Xbox because by the time Sony announced that the PS3 was gunna run with Blu-ray, MS had already prematurely eja.. ejected the 360 out onto the market, so they went with an HD-DVD perreferal. And by the time they came up with the "elite", HD-DVD was already looking like a "lost cause". I'm not saying this is a fact, cause I'm not microsoft, but yeah. They DID back up HD-DVD.

Looks like ur a noob ;p

1- The first type of compression, u can only compress soo much to use the Disk on a console :)

This is what all console games are using.

2- The 2nd type of compression, U can use advanced compression to EXTREMELY compress and squeeze the data but anything like that will require u to Install the Entire CD into a Hard disk. This is WHAT CRYSIS IS USING :) AND MOST PC GAMES.

-With the PS3 Even with the Huge amount of Disk space, they can mix Options 1 and 2 on any of there games :) ( most Ps3 Exclusive are using this method, for example with sigma u can install to remove load time )

-GTA Cant fit there gaint game into a Dvd-9, they CAN't use option 2 like Crysis does because the Xbox coredoesn't have a Hard-disk :)

All Xbox games are getting limited from this. For example GoW, now its happning to GTA aswell

-GTA cant use 2 Disks, trust me u dont wana change disks when traveling from area to another in GTA :)

This problems is going to appear in future games

- Download is not the future for epic games, lets take MSG4 for example ;p its 50 Gig, ur really gona download 50 gig ?

I would never download games bigger than 15 Gig, im using 1 meg connection and its STILL GONA TAKE FOREVER. Rather buy the CD IMHO. .

And if HD-DVD dies, then Blue-Ray will slowly take over everything :)

The fact is, people can be blind and argue all they want, but the more storage the disk has, the more popular it's going to be with developers. You guys talk like having 25-50 gigs of space on a disk is a bad thing. Even if it wasn't as important as people are saying, then why would it be a bad thing?

Blu-ray is the future of tangible storage/media. It has the highest storage capacity. Naughtydog is absolutely right. Its going to be a problem in the near future, when games start reaching 50GB. Unless they come out with a "triple-layer blu-ray", We might even see 2 disk BLU-RAY Games!!! Thats like .. what.. 10 DVD9's? thats insane!

I think either MS is going to have to come out with some way to get a VERY LARGE HDD into EVERY console, or a blu-ray drive into every console within the next 5 years. And the easiest way of doing that would be.. DUN dun DUUUNNNNNN...

The Xbox Vista! (or whatever the hell they wanna call it). Thats right, the Next gen for Microsoft is on the horizon! I'm VERY surprised they didn't at least put an HD-DVD player in the 360 elite. Thats just silly. Honestly, who *wants* to swap disks, when they don't have to?

*shrug*

I agree. This HD disc thing seems very temporary from what I've read about the future of gaming and TV viewing. Everything is going to be downloadable. All you Sony sheeple think that BR is the future when they said the PS4 would not even have a physical drive, and I think same with the next Xbox...

PC games use HDD. 360 doesnt have HDD as a standard, devs cant take advantage of the HDD like with PS3 and PC.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." - Bill Gates

everyone makes silly predictions about the future. It's not like Sony has even written up design specs for the PS4 yet. well. maybe they did, but odds are they will realise that even in 10 years, physical media will still play a staple roll in the world of mass media. Especially gaming. I doubt the "PS4" won't have a physical drive. If it doesn't I won't buy it. It will be a ripoff. Unless they make all games like $1.00 to $5.00. And that isn't happening.

[QUOTE="0rin"]First off, I can tell you are just talking to pick an argument, and know very little about what you say. Its called "Blu-ray" not blue ray or blue-ray. And second of all, Yes downloading HD content will surely be popular in the future. But do you honestly think it will be more popular than.. say.. renting movies is now?

I'm sure people will still prefer to own a physical copy of the movies they have.

And about Crysis, you say that as if EVERYONE IN THE WORLD CARES ABOUT THAT GAME. I for one don't. Its just another shooter, only with prettier graphics. Anyway, the reason its being shipped on DVD9 is because its a PC game. How many people do you know with a blu-ray player in their PC? hmm? count them. probably none.

Blu-ray is still a pretty expencive technology. LOL @ trying to insult "blue-ray" because a PC game is coming out on DVD-9.

Someone jealous their format isn't winning? Cry me a river, then go drown in your sorrow.tacubano

I'm not praising crysis, it just pisses me off how ps3 fanboys say that you need blu-ray for better games, with grater experiences, better graphics and etc. The only reason I point crysis, is because its a game that cannot be done in ps3 and is on dvd9

Who says this? Are you sure it isn't your own severe insecurities talking here?

People are still distrubuting software on CDs and DVDs. What makes you think we'll skip next-gen media formats (for movies/games/etc.) like Blu-ray and HD-DVD for digital transferring entirely? Digital media is great and all, but we don't have the capacities to transfer such loads on our current network infrastructure. Use your head man, this aint Japan.

Stupid Japan and their uber internetz =/

Just b/c you got internet (prob.broadband) doesn't mean every one else does. If your b*thcing about blu-ray than why the f*ck is microsof using DVDs, why not use CD-roms instead? Blu-ray doesnt always have to be used for videogames or movies, think for a second what other benifits blu-ray might have. Corporations/Businesses/Medical fields/ also are prob going to incorporate blu-ray for the benefits blu-ray provides. Of course blu-ray is not the future but it is for now (and hddvd), same thing w/dvd it sure as hell aint going to be the future, look at what happened to VHS. If you dont like blu-ray software or anything related to blu-ray just dont purchase it man. But blu-ray is sure a step up compared to dvd. Dont forget how much DVDs were when they first came out, You are right about downloading content that is prob the future but its still to early for that.

No, downloable content will only be a supplement, not a replacement.

1) Movie industry will never allow it to be the standard

2)ISPs will never allow it because it would cost them too much money with bandwidth. Many ISPs are already capping monthly downloads

3) Movie Buyers never download content. It would cost too much money to buy multiple hard drives to store your movies and there is the risk of them all being lost if your HD crashes.
