I am making this thread....because since forge was announced...I have seen many people (you know who you are) try to use it as a reason why Halo 3 will be better then Crysis...

and while its perfectly fine to think that....using Forge as your reason is just not valid....because Crysis has its own editor....something which somehow, not many people realize...and this editor is undoubtably more powerfull then forge.

part one

part two.

as you can see from the videos...the sandbox editor has features far more powerfull them what forge has....such as the ability to create and edit, terrain, buildings, lighting, scriping AI...etc.

While Forge is a great addition to console gaming....I hope this thread has made you realize how stupid it is to use forge agaist Crysis, and Hermits in general.

the most likely argument about to be posted is that Crysis' editor is too hard.

the most likely argument about to be posted is that Crysis' editor is too hard.Hewkii

which is ironic...since it looks far easier to use then the Unreal Editor (the concept of "subtraction" is really difficult to comprehend)

the sandbox editor is deffinetly harder to use then forge....but thats understandable considering how many more features it has...

either way....its deffinetly not very complicated.

you would be surprised at how many list it as their main reason...granted though...most are unaware that crysis comes with an editor.

Im still a little confused on how allowing more then one person at a time to edit a map is a good idea...unless an entire game mode is made around it (garry's mod)

but all the fundemental features of Forge (choosing where to place weapons, vehicals, powerups...etc) is all aviable in the sandbox editor.

Forge is just a dumb-down full game editor. That is all it is. But it is definitely cool to have cause people can edit things (to a certain exten) in the game. Quick and simple. While Crysis's islike afull all-out editor.

well, yay forge can be played as a game mode... Look, im not trying to say that Forge is better.. its just different, okay? I mean is crysis going to have to crazy online functionality like forge and saved films will have? I really dont know...Forge is good b/c its simple... ITs easy to take an exesting gametype and turn into something completely different....rocketrace is built from VIP and rocket baseball is built from territories... and both game types took minutes to create and then only a few play throughs to perfect...

I am almost wondering if it would be possible for a mod to allow that type of thing to happen with Sandbox 2.0

I know Crytek networks their workstations together and build levels in real-time with all of them changing different things at different places on the map. Saves time because you can have the artists, level designers, programmers and everyone all tinkering with the game all at once and you don't need to compile everything.

That's why I am almost wondering if it would be possible for that to happen during a Multiplayer match. It COULD work out but it would need a lot of tinkering and would be an extremely difficult mod to plan out. Chances are that mod would not even really be plausible until like 2010 though.

Like everything else in Halo, Forge is a gimped map editor, you can't actually make maps, just randomly place characters on a pre-designed map, I can do more then that in Advance Wars Dual Strike for christ sakes. The thing is that it takes more storage to make a full map editor, plus you actually need a powerful machine to run a full blown editor.

Forge is more of a game type. You can still edit the map, but if you want you can go online with it and edit with friends or play custom gametypes that you've created. It's not ment to be a full blown level editor like Crysis.

Truth hurts doesnt it. Forge will NEVER be as good as something like Unreal Editor, which is a full blown true map editor.

Forge? Halo 3? who cares? It will sell just like nintendo. These products are proof that alot of people just follow the masses.

Editors on the PC have been around forever, what makes console noobs think they have the best one already on their first try? good luck console noobs.

I wouldn't exactly call Forge an "editor." You really don't "edit" anything. You just play around with stuff in levels... you don't actually create anything new.

That said, Crysis's editor is going to be balls.

Honestly, what Forge doesin terms of mutliplayer implications, Sandbox 2.0 does in terms of singleplayer implications. Sandbox 2.0 is fully real-time and you can create a forest and a scene and then add AI, script events, add audio(if you have a mic), and basically create your own miniature storyline, then click a button and jump into the game you have created. You can basically load up Sandbox 2.0, create a forest, set down an AI squad, script their behavior and go wild playing through the area. If at any time you decide you need a tank, well.... click a button and boom you just spawned one for yourself. Decide that tank needs tactical nuclear weapons as its ammo, click a button and you got yourself a nukefest. Want to make it shoot singularities(black holes. Its an alien tech), well click a button and you have some nukes. Overall, you can create your own single-player experience in addition to being able to create maps that everyone in the community can enjoy.

Also, like I said, there may be a time when that type of editing gets thrown into the Multiplayer(tweaked of course.... I mean having people constant spawning Singularity Tanks might not be fun...)

Well you bring this argument up when people do say those things. Right now people (in SW at least) play Halo because it's fun. Only a couple of fakeboys say stuff like that.

Forge really IS a lite editor.

Thats all it is. Im looking foward to using it, but compared to the sandbox editor, or G-mod (hell loads of other editors) - no SDKs its not much.

Forge is a simple realtime online level editor that allows you to place and remove preset objects. It's more like a game mode than an actual editor as far as I'm concerned. Crysis' editor is therefore quite different as it's first of all strictly singleplayer, but primarily, it is an actual level editor. You can build an entire level from scratch using your own heavenly textures and models and whatnot if you want to...and can.

Im sure that can be modded in through the editor.

Indeed.

And you can drag and drop A.i units.

That alone ****s on nearly every editor.

Making maps from scratch, scripting tools, mp tools, game mode modifications, drag and drop a.i..............................

And the editor should be damn easy to use.... I was using the Far Cry sandbox editor back when I was 14/15.

what was the last major PC game that didnt?

hell even multiplats get one (like COD4)

Truly the thing I envy mostabout PC games. This is the first time I'd heard of Crysis having an editor, though. (I don't exactly follow these things.)

Editors are hard to use.I have spent a lot of time with the Unreal Map Editor trying to create maps and it is extremely difficult, you gotta give props to the guys who will create mods and maps cause it is a lot of work mastering the content.

UnrealEd isn't all that hard. Once you wrap your mind around the concept of geometry subtraction it's actually really easy to make a map. Making a GOOD map, on the other hand, can be a bit more difficult. Not because the tools aren't there, or are hard to use, but because it's difficult coming up with something fun or original.

BTW, the verison of UnrealEd packaged with Unreal Engine 3 is geometry-additive, so it's actually alot more user-friendly now.

That's what I find impressive about Forge. One of your teammates plays as a monitor, like GuiltySpark343, that has the ability to not only place weapons, objects and vehicles where you need them, but also spawn points... all on the fly, and in the middle of a multiplayer match.

And I like that every object placement has a cost associated to it so your monitor can't go crazy and drop tanks every 2 feet.

That's what makes Forge unique.

Serious? :|

Zomg I could list a whole bunch of other editors but i'll go with the first that comes to mind.

Gary's Mod.

Everything you have mentioned doesent make Forge unique at all. Sure its very cool - and I look foward to using it - and it may be unique for console players, but in the PC realm. Nope.

yeah i think it's ridiculous to say that halo will be better than crysis, as console FPSs are never going to surpass PC FPSs, but that's not to say that console FPSs can't be loads of fun. just look at halo 1 and 2 and goldeneye.
