Pokemon is more hardcore than 99% of JRPGS out there.

Anyone who has played it competitiviely will agree.

Ivs, Evs, movesets, natures, and etc.

there are so many states and HIDDEN stats that it's insane

None of that stuff is all that complicated once you know it exists, though.

But, yeah, it is more hardcore than people give it credit for.

Its one of the few JRPGs with competitive battling i guess.

I have played many competitive battles in Pokemon and I do agree to an extent. It certainly isn't as shallow as most people think it is. I meant there are huge communities out there investing much of their time into battling (smogon.com)

Yeah, the game has a ridiculous amount of hidden stats and such that it's hard for anyone who's not a hardcore fan to know about. I generally just keep away from that side of things. I never battle other people anyway.

ANYTHING is hardcore if you play it competitively. Even Final Fantasy is hardcore when you and the best Final Fantasy players in the world are competing for the best speed-run.

I don't think Pokemon, which is good but very accessible, can be described as being more hardcore than many tough and obscure JRPG's on DS (Izuna series, the Dark Spire, Etrian Odyssey series, etc.)
