Of those two, I choose Pokémon. I had Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii and I think it's an excellent game, but playing it with the wiimote is a pain in the ass.

Clearly, the response from this topic is going to be biased by the fact such a large amount of Monster Hunter's consumer base is centred in Japan. I have yet to ever play a Monster Hunter game, so I don't really have a valid opinion on this. However, even if they are "monster hunting" games in a sense, they are extremely different games (referring to trainer RPGs for Pokemon), so you can't really analyze them like they share the same genre.

Both of these are monster hunting franchises, and both of them move a massive amount of units of their respective systems (although Pokemon's appeal is global, and Monster Hunter's is limited to Japan). Both of these are rather good games (although critical reception again puts Pokemon ahead).

Which of these two is your favorite? Which one do you like more? Monster Hunter? Or Pokemon?

charizard1605

Both could learn a bit from each other. Agree both are Monster seeking games, but have different gameplay.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="IronBass"]Pokemon, because of the charm of the universe and the simple but addictive combat system. Although I wouldn't mind a darker Pokemon game. With that said, I've never felt the MH series has lived to its full potential. There are always certain design choiced/clunky mechanics that hold it back.siLVURcross
Have you played Monster Hunter Tri?

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is better.

This is subjective, but true from Coolyfetts point of view.

Pokemon. Though maybe it's not fair to judge this solely on my only experience with MH: Freedom 2, I just can't stand the controls in that game.

Pokemone games are better (and I love pokemone more then MH) but I find Monster Hunter to be more entertaining in the sense that your physical skill makes a battle rewarding. In pokemon te rewarding part is winning after putting together a great team and strategy. The grind in both these games need to calm the hell down though. Way too much grinding for parts in MH. Way too much time sunk into IVs pokemon (though to its benefit its getting better with each iteration). Both these games need to find a better means of doing important tasks because its stupid that without the internet you can't figure lots of important pokemon things and in MH its less fun by yourself and stupidly complicated.

Monster Hunter is growing in popularity in the west. It will never be pokemon but it absolutely can get big.

Monster Hunter could be huge if Capcom handled it right. Sadly, they're just messing it up in the west. For instance, where is Monster Hunter Portable 3?

Probably being ported to Vita.

I highly doubt that's the case. Plus, remember, Sony is AGAINST ports with zero enhancements. Why waste all that money in porting it over to the Vita with enhancements, when they could just release it in the west on the PSP with minimal cost?

Because Capcom is Capcom. They don't need silly things like logic or common sense.

Ah, yes, the Nintendo Rule. I guess it can be applied to Capcom too: 'If something makes too much sense, DON'T DO IT.'

Screw MHP3 on the PSP. If they want to grow the franchise keep that crap off the dying PSP. Where the hell is MHTriG for PS3, 360 and Wii?

They'll never develop it for the PS3 or Xbox. Like Pokemon, the development model for the franchise always seems to favor the cheapest option out there. I'd say the 3DS has a higher chance of seeing Monster Hunter than the PS360 do.

I don't see why working with Tri, expanding it with more of P3's content and then doing a port to the PS3 and 360 along with the Wii version would be expensive :?

Because again, Sony won't accept a late port with minimal enhancements. They need a proper upressed port that takes full advantage of the system's capabilities before they'll accept it onto the system. It would simply cost too much, and unless the cost of either PS3 or Xbox 360 development goes down, it's simply not likely.

Yeah, it has like a ton of enhancements. The trouble is, SCEA and SCEE won't let Capcom release it in the west :?

If tri got a lot of P3's content and some new stuff it wouldn't be minimal enhancements. Anyway fine no PS3, they can still port to 360.

Well, maybe they'll do it. I hope they do it. i still think Capcom could make the series so much bigger, but they don't seem to want to. Would porting it to 360 make sense though? It won't sell on the 360 in Japan, and that's the biggest audience, after all...

It would still be on the Wii and still be in Japan. It would do atleast half a million which is fine if the goal is simply to expand it in the west.

Well, for starters, the MGS Collection has more than one game, the Monster Hunter thing only has MHP3. Capcom *could* just release all the PSP Monster Hunter games in one package for the PS3, though, that would be a genius move.
