TLoU 1 demos and UC4.
The only thing that looked fake in the TLOU2 demo from e3 2018 was the evade movement, when she dodges attacks.....they say that its part of the mechanics now, but it looks scripted and way to fluid/realistic, etc....could be real tho. Another thing was some of the cover mechanics too. (near the end)

Counting bullets from picked up weapon seems gone but I can understand that was removed.
Actually most of TLoU's stuff seem to be there in the final version.
UC4 probably got more downgrades it seems.
What downgrades is TLoU 2 likely to get?
What other devs create this obvious fake scripted demos as of late specially MS' and Nintendo's for gameplay. I know some do fake co-op dramatic voices I'm not talking about that?
My only standout memory was that old Future soldier ubi game. Can't remember the title.

I doubt the "downgrades" would be anything of concern. No one should be surprised if the game doesn't look quite as good as the trailer when the game is actually good.
People acting like this is the first time a product is represented as an ideal when the reality is quite different, and generally inferior.
It's called advertising, and it happens everywhere and you have all seen it before.
Doesn't make it feel any less like lying, though :P

I am not sure why its a big deal. My guess is the industry is moving towards "truer" representation of games and seeing games that are not a true reflection of the final game and the game is not playable in any form is calling its validity into question. Why now though?

That's true and I am only realizing this with this gen. I didn't really pay much attention to the last except the whole KZ2 fiasco.
ND's animation already is way top notch and their environment artists are nice. I don't think they have to do this seemingly disingenuous tactic. Raise the bar. Then again, maybe for a moment there I should ground myself with Sony's 1st party or the industry in general.

Yeah but at least some show "alpha/beta/not representative". I guess Sony can keep doing this until a mass cryout which seems unlikely since at the end of the day, their games generally deliver as of late. More important goal.
The demo did look pretty good. If I get any console, it would probably be a PS4 Pro for this game and Bloodborne. My friend is trying to convince me to buy his xbox one, but I'd only ever play Siege on it because he does. Instead, I'm trying to get him on PC, but he hates the keyboard and mouse so much. Lol
Anyway, the one thing that does bother me with the demo, even though it's incredibly minor, is the way she shoots the bow when stealthy. The Horizon Zero Dawn character did the same thing. How the hell does someone hipfire a bow? Just looks incredibly unrealistic.

You are right about that evade. It looks like it's out of a movie; either that, or a QTE. It also happens with the evade at the end when she's fighting the dude with the hammer. Lots of QTE type looking scenes.
Another thing that annoyed me, was that many of the enemies walked behind the player, but they didn't even bother to keep an eye on them. I don't know if that's just the level of scripting that was done for this demo, or just a horrible player. And some enemies even looked right at her, but didn't "see" her. I noticed that at least twice in the video.

Maybe you could? With far less power and accuracy? I'm not sure. HZD's bow look really awkward but it handles well for me as a game.. maybe she should've just used a more fantasy bow to get rid of the perceived awkwardness lest they completely change the bow mechanics to a more traditional one, pull strength and curves becoming more realistic.
I'll just leave this here....
I'll also leave this analysis here from a dev on the TLOU2 gameplay reveal....
Attempts to show downgrades in game. Shows Ellie Assisting Joel. Attempts to duplicate the same thing expecting the game to be scripted exactly the same--the game being scripted exactly the same would be a negative bright guy. The whole point was to show that Ellie can assist you from time to time. Next scene is shown, two out of the three attempts--Ellie assists the player..........non-scripted..............which is a good thing.............. He makes a point in trying to grab the guy and use him as a shield, tries to call it downgrade--then he actually grabs the guy just like the trailer--to which I would ask--where's the downgrade then? He did exactly what the trailer did. I stopped the video right then and there, if you are trying to show faults/downgrades in the game, at least show faults/downgrades that are valid. The reload animation that was cut out, that's a stretch to call a downgrade.

I'll rewatch the 1st vid again as I've seen that years ago and for sure I am finishing that 1 hour analysis.
Almost opens with:
"First trailer is not actually in the game at all..
sand deformation is gone
image quality is stepped back
framerate isn't the same
safe to say pre-rendered
..still looks good
paraphrasing.
So a step back is expected?

Aloy shoots the bow normally when she's not crouching, so that looked fine. She only did the weird animation when she was in stealth mode. This game does the same thing. I still have to wonder how anyone shoots a bow with that kind of accuracy without looking down the bow "sight". It's just a wonky animation that bothers me. Nothing to do with gameplay really.
@DragonfireXZ95: "Another thing that annoyed me, was that many of the enemies walked behind the player, but they didn't even bother to keep an eye on them."
They probably didnt "need" to keep a eye on them because there were indictors around the player to let them know when a enemy is near them.

Now that's just lazy. Might as well let the game play for you. :P
This is why people call Sony games movie games at times. I'm not denying that it doesn't look good, but adding that kind of feature is a little stupid.
There are laws against false and misleading advertising, I dont know why but the games industry seems exempt from them.
They arent allowed to lie or mislead about quality, price or the products purpose. ND arent the only ones doing it but their E3 videos are bait and switch pure and simple. The only time they are allowed is with a disclaimer.

What I meant was changing to a the more realistic bow mechanics would change the "gameplay", I meant the handling of the entire bow combat. Completely different. Sorry for my bad wording. The game would've probably been a little bit more challenging if such was implemented.
Yes trust worthy on the animation front. UC Lost legacy is already crazy good on animation. I trust the improvements on that end. I remain skeptical about the AI because this is a systemic game and AI are very difficult to pull off. There e3 demos are rehearsed choreographed gamplay cuts. This one is a video too, Bruce Straley did not go on stage to play like that UC4 demo. Which by the way was not fake unless you go on a nitpicking run. I have witness that part work in many different scenarios. There e3 set piece demo of UC4 held up. Same with demos of Lost Legacy.
I'm really loving this bit of controversy. I hope its reaching them. Cause boy if they get motivated to pull that AI of, all power to them. I like what I'm hearing about the improvements they are working on for TLOUS 2.

Wouldn't say it's stupid. Lame would be a better word. The game becomes more accessible to people who don't play games often. It's not like they have the hardcore gamer in mind while developing these games.

I've watched this and finished.
Clearly some downgrades in some areas and clear upgrades in others.
Unlike the DF video on top shows that UC doesn't have destructibles on the highlight, and downgraded hair and water effects, wet shirt effects (3 of which were even highlighted in an interview) and missing scripted events.
It seems they've purposely changed certain things so the initial wave of analyses aren't likely to catch them.
So this is likely to reflect on TLoU 2. I'm more grounded now at least. I should've known better.
If this really happens, the other dev should've just said some are heavily scripted and some will be missing in the final game. I'm sure there's a better way to condense that into fewer words.

You may be right. There might perhaps be a hardcore mode that removes all of that stuff, which would be nice.

It would be awesome if they did that. There's a lot of games these days that needs a hardcore mode. Or more like "gamer mode". When I heard that you can see people through walls in fucking Mafia 3, I just laughed.
people really think somebody actually sit and played with a controller being recorded, and that they will too will be able to play like this. LOL
don't get me wrong, two of my most favorite games did this at e3 (tlou1 and witcher 3). still advertising is advertising.
People still believe that whatever is shown at E3 will play out exactly like that? Really? You have to be special kind of ignorant or even stupid to believe that. It's all scripted. Sometimes even fake too(looking at ubisoft here). Even graphics are almost entirely downgraded to some extent in the final version.
Naughty Dogs are not exception. It's all just a part of building up the hype.

yes, indeed. and even if it is actually gameplay, that someone actually played, no way the whole game is going to be played like this.
this is like a single "perfect" part of what it could be, but unlikely that it will.

I personally won't mind too much if a few scripted ones are peppered in let's say the last segment of TLoU 2 demo and GoW 2018 troll ledge fall. Graphics downgrade I am quite used to at least to a reasonable degree (AF, AA, LoD, shadow quality).
I don't think Tsushima, Sekiro, Tomb Shadow, et al that's been shown will have as much of a difference compared to what's possibly going on with TLoU 2 due to ND's previous pre-retail showing of TLoU 1 E3 and UC4.
Anyway, I just rewatched HZD:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYndAyTm1aA
I never really noticed the monologues and I don't think the last kill monologue is in the game but the rest seem at retail. I guess some of the initial interactions with the Watcher was also missing in retail?
Anyone who believed that demo a week ago was unscripted is a moron. I don't need to see previous Naughty Dog demos to know that was fake.

No it wasn't people should stop been butthurt about ND games.
Why would I be butthurt? I have a PS4. I've played and own all their modern games. You're gullible.
Lol so all these sony downgrades and they still end up realising the best looking games out..
Smh lems need to think before they write

The first TLOU already have Survivor and Grounded difficulty modes for that.
@pdogg93: tlou is one of my favorite games ever... I don't own an Xbox one and the game didn't need a sequel. It was already the Mona Lisa.
Youre wrong and ill informed.
I don't know man, I'm 100% all in for The Last of Us Part II.
The ending was really fitting in the first game but I don't mind playing as an older Ellie and seeing where her story goes.
Although, a sequel could have worked just as well preserving but improving upon the gameplay and using a different plot altogether.
