does gore matter to you in games? not even just gore, but sex and profanity. Are these necessities for M-rated games these days? I have noticed this more and more even in T-rated games. Do games need this in order to give the player an 'adult experience'?

what do you think?

Well yes but it depends on the game really. In a game like the witcher I really like all the blood and gore during combat:).

I didn't bother voting. It depends on the genre and game from that genre.

The fact that Dark Knight was able to pull of what it did, without barely showing any blood, shows that its not entirely necessary, but at the same time If I shoot or slash someone in a game I'd like to see some blood :P

I don't feel that it's completely necessary, but tendencies point to most of the highest-rated games being rather violent in the past 2 or 3 years, though I would take an E rated game like NBA titles or Kingdom Hearts over a game that's main selling point is over the top violence with no good gameplay.

Some games like Halo don't need it, yet Gears of War isn't Gears of War to me unless blood and guts is squirting everywhere while heads are popped off. It just depends on the setting and how the series is introduced.

I don't care about it, but I do like that some games make it optional for when I feel like gaming when my kids are around. If used properly it can be a good feature, for instance the gladiator sequences on Shadow of Rome are a perfect example of when it can actually enhance the gameplay experience. Unfortunately, too manydevs just use it for shock value or to distract you from the fact their game isn't actually any good.

I don't get how gore or realism is necessary for an M-rated game. M-rated doesn't mean it has to be realistic or gory, IMO. I don't mind gore. It's great in some games, but not necessary. Neither is realism.

It depends on the game if it is going for Realism yes it needs to atleast have some gore. If it is going for everything over the top then it needs tons of Gore if it is something that is different then the other 2 it doesn't need gore at all.

It is not necessary at all. It just makes gamers feel mature, although they can be more immature than the so called 14 year olds their always making fun of.

Depends on the game. Several shooters including Resistance 2 and Gears 2 just seem to throw it in there for entertainment purposes, and a lot of people are WOWed by it. It's good for realism in an M-rated game, but if overdone (take Resistance 2 or Gears 2 for an example), then it just appears fake and silly. Plus, blood splattering on the screen making it harder to SEE the action can make playing the game frustrating. While most games are sensible as T-rated games, I don't believe that every shooter or every game for that matter needs extreme contents of gore or blood or profanity or sex just to appeal to the more "adult audience". Uncharted and Jak and Daxter are good examples of great games with just enough adult content to appeal to an older audience. Yes, people should bleed when slashed, shot, or harmed in any violent way, but if it's not realistic, then I take it as just an attempt to draw in the more "adult audience". Many games I feel should be T-rated rather than M-rated. Sex is not needed, but maybe smaller suggestive themes relating to it. Also, profanity should not be too extreme like it is in Killzone 2 in which everyone throws an F-bomb or any other curse word every few lines they speak.

I can have just as much fun playing a E game than an M game. Gore is not a factor in determining how "good" the game is, it's nice to have when it's at a realistic setting.

If the game is action based and focused on realism, yes. Otherwise it's not necessary.LOL , a Mario game with gore, weird and unnecessary.

I would definitely prefer it in a which require is but not in all games. For example would prefer it in a shooter which is going for a realistic atmosphere. But then there are games like fantasy games, like let's say Heroes of Might and Magic series where when any unit when it dies , vanishes in it's own unique ways (like a genie going back to it lamp :P) and the presence of blood would totally spoil it

Violence for violence's sake is just as useless as innovation for innovation's sake.

MGS4 and WoW didn't have gore, they both won game of the years. Right now I'm playing SF4 more than killzone 2, so gore/no gore has nothing to do with my likings.

It depends on the game. if it is a sequel, that has established itself as violent, then it should continue like that.

I think GTA4 should of had more gore though (e.g, when someone is shot with a rocket launcher, or a shotgun at close range, there should be some limb removal). More gore in GTA4 would have worked brilliantly with the physics engine they used.

Also, horror games must have some form of gore, as it is the staple of the genre.

Fallout 3 has insane amounts of gore, but that does enhance the gameplay and atmosphere of the gameworld

Really, i think it depends on the game

No. I don't mind it when it fits well with the overall tone and ambience, but games where the blood level is blatantly set to appeal to teens who think they're "cool" for playing "badass" games just annoy me.

It's definately a huge plus in any combat oriented game. It won't make a bad game good, but it can improve already great games by quite a bit. For e.g. in Crysis I think a lot of gore would had made the difference between loving it and finding it boring, the combat just isn't as satisfying without some kind of reaction, it's like shooting cardboard mannequins.

Nope. Some of my favorite games have not one pint of blood present.

Not to say that I don't like it in games (as it does fit SOME games), but it's not necessary.

gore hasn't been important to me since mortal kombat. if a game calls for it fair do's but when it is a centrepiece for the game i couldn't give a ********. if a game is gonna have gore id prefer it to have a great story or gameplay being the most focused on part of the game with gore being splashed around here and there when its called for.
