Poll Poll: Retro Games VS Modern Games? (76 votes)

Retro. (6th gen and backwards) 62%
Modern. (Last Gen and Current Gen.) 38%

Which do you prefer?

Retro games VS Modern games. Which do you enjoy more? Which is better?

Honestly, as much as I enjoyed the 7th gen, I'm going with retro games.

I'm not as impressed or as interested in the majority of the games I've seen this generation. Sure we have stuff like MGSV, Fallout 4, Persona 5, Zelda U, Dark Souls 3 and such. But those are just a FEW games. Even if it's a lot, it doesn't compare to the sheer quantity of quality video games we got back in the day.

When I play old games on the NES, Genesis, and Atari 2600 that I've NEVER played before and enjoy them better than most recent $60 modern AAA games, I think somethings wrong....Just saiyan.

Modern by a mile and i am playing games since 1992. Sure i get nostalgia every now and then and sure my favorite game is from 1997 but looking at most genres games progressed quite significantly over the years ( there are some aspects of games though that for some reason they regressed such as level design in fps )

There is the exception of fps games which i prefer retro though

I'll take both, thank you. The oldest game I regularly play is the Sims 3, I think. I used to play Doom (doomsday engine) and Master of Orion 2 a lot though.

Oh wait, I play a lot of Medieval 2.

We got a lot of good stuff "back in the day" - and a lot of garbage. And they used to sell us using "game art" that looked nothing like the actual game - and I don't mean the lighting was less dynamic.

The people who prefer retro games are gamers on a Steam sale budget (PC gamers basically) or pretentious fuckwits who think it's 'cool' to play games that look horribly out of date. Knock yourselves out with that shit, assholes.

Being presumptious wont help your case.

I prefer games that play well over games that look well.

Also LOLOLOL to any derp who thinks retro games were harder, oh you mean games that you played when you were 10 years old compared to now when you have years/decades of gaming under your belt?, of course that shyts gonna be harder.

Games have been progressively getting easier.

Franchise entry vs franchise entry.

Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 vs Super Mario 3D Land and World
Zelda 1 and 2 vs Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess
Wizardry 1 vs Wizardry 8
X-COM vs XCOM
Diablo vs Diablo 3
MGS5 even doesnt let you change difficulty until you beat the game.

Genre then vs Genre now

Platformer: This one has perhaps stayed the same or even gotten harder due to all these Brutal platformers that have come out as of late.
RPG: Wizardry vs Dragon Age Inquisition
Roguelike: Nethack vs Rogue Legacy
Themepark MMORPG: EverQuest vs Guild Wars 2 (and Sandbox mmorpgs like Ultima Online were even more unforgiving)
Strategy: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans vs StarCraft 2
Shooter: Doom vs Call of Duty
Action Adventure: Zelda 1 vs Assassin's Creed

Games have truly progressed, so I'll say modern.

there's some great new games, but can't help but feel the market is contracting, and not just now it was doing it last gen too

Before I answer this question where is the separation of Modern era vs retro era? Is this like a 2d vs 3d thing or is there a different divider.

Depends on what game. I will say I prefer 16 bit games to modern games in general, but that doesn't mean every 16 bit game. Some genres just get better with time like sports games, racers (unless it's GT). Others tend to be hit or miss. But I think with new technology, the potential is there to completely out do everything that's come before it. Just waiting to see it. And bigger landscapes and more detailed facial hair won't cut it.

Retro. I feel theres less creativity in modern gaming. I would also argue that games seem easier compared to games of old.

I don't have many retro games that I can still play today, the onyl ones are Quake 3, Wolfenstein ET, RTCW and that's actually it (NFS Most wanted is still great if you can count that.)

I had more fun with games from last gen.

Yea, due to the decline of AAA and disappearance of the mid tier...

it's gotta be retro.

With that you show you haven't been playing games since the 90s, I doubt your age is more than 15 years.

Guess being born April 25th 1986 is somehow makes me 15 years old??? holy shit people are really dumb.

Spoken like a true person who has never actually gone back and played retro games...

Spoken like a true window licker

Yes cause clearly I don't have Fallout, Fallout 2, Outcast (I bet 95% of the people on here have no idea what this game is), System Shock 2 on PC, Majoras Mask on my 3DS and FF tactics and FF6 on PSN. Hell I still have my hard copy of Planescape Torment.

Makes no difference at all. It's pretty much a proof you haven't been gaming to 96 too. If you sucked back then, you'll suck now. Gaining experience in completely different games won't make a difference.

English use it

Do you want me to be an ass and point out your grammar errors too?

Anyway, the idiocy of your post aside. You haven't posted a rebuttal to anything we've said. If you played Contra III as an 8 year old and couldn't finish it then, you still won't finish it now. Read the thread about Rare Replay. Some people who never played Battletods back then tried it for the first time now and find it ridiculously difficult. They're not children either.

Retro and it's not even close.
