Maybe if they stress test it in a very hot room. Playing graphically charging games for weeks in a row with out it braking down.
They just really need to change the box. Make it bigger and put better cooling in it.
I'll have a 360 as long as it's coverd by warenty. But if it fails outside it I won't be buying a new one unless I can get a new core for really cheap.
There is no fix for the RRoD and there never ever will be. Its a design flaw in the whole Xbox 360, its just a terrible design. For Microsoft to fix the RRoD, they would have to totally redesign the whole Xbox 360 which they will not do.
They can make better models of it which means less failure rate, but it will NEVER be fixed unless they redesign the whole console.
Thats why I am selling my Xbox 360 and buying a PS3 :)
No I wouldn't, sold mine. Shoulda been fixed a long time ago. The drop in sales should teach them a lesson for their try next gen.ZenfoldorYou mean game sales? How many games did you buy that you think they would even notice?
And how do you know the other person isn't also buying games?
wasnt it supposed to be fixed with the new chipset? It came out in the fall.6matt6
No. MS never made any such claim. THe fanboys of the world simply spread the rumour non-stop that the new chipset would be cooler so the RROD would suddenly stop the second the new chips were out. They persistently spread this rumour even when evidence was pouring in that the first consoles to use the new chips were still failing.
Then the rumour was feeding on itself so strongly that the lemmings are NOW saying that the problem IS and HAS BEEN fixed. You still see posts and threads about this. Lemming insist the problem is fixed and anyone who has RROD is lying.
But us REAL gamers who follow REAL news, and not just fanboys repeating each other, know that the GPU is what causes the over heating and the new "falcon" is a smaller CPU. MS has said the GPU won't be changed until at least August 08. And there is no guarantee that will completely fix the problem (but it probably will).
if pigs start flying, would i stop eating pork?
i'll believe it when i see it
the elite was supposed to fix this
the falcon was supposed to fix this
the halo model was supposed to fix this
it's not happening
If it works I'll buy it in an instance.
However the falcon chipset, new cooling pipe, Elite console etc were all rumoured to solve R'ROD so I'd take this news with a pinch of salt.

Its not like that didnt help. It lowered the failure rate to below 10% and keep in mind how many people arent keeping their console well ventilated. A new falcon 360, plugged straight into the wall, kept well ventilated more than likely will last you this entire generation, maybe breaking once but the 3 year warranty will cover that so your good

the fact that it improved the situation but didn't completely fix it leads me to think that it's going to require more than a cooler chip to fix this problem

The only ones I hear saying this are lemmings, any proof you can offer at all?? I haven't seen a single reputable website, heck I haven't even heard Microsoft say anything about the new falcon lowering the failure rate. User reviews are still showing a ton of defects. You can look on any X360 forum and plenty of people are still having the problem even with the new chipset.
What is this RROD everyone speaks about? I and many other people never had this RROD. Everytime someone creates a thread or post something about RROD, it's like they're speaking foreign to me because this RROD never existed in my life. RROD is nearly extinct but I'm guessing some fanboys will miss it because they won't have anything else to use for a reason to bash. RROD is their comfort comeback whenever they don't have anything else to say.

I'm sure your flawless experience is a heartwarming tale for those 33% who are afflicted

they could get it to produce less heat
well it looks like your consoles are catching up to PC hardware upgrades with their 4000 different SKUs per console, and now, promise after promise with MS that the next xbox you buy (since the Elite) will fix RROD. you guys are being herded like sheep.
lol, welcome.

That 33% has been out for awhile now so the number is much lower now. But yep I'm part of that whopping sixty seven percent of flawlessness.

what's scary is that they still haven't gotten it right
it's like upgrading your pc multiple times in the span of 2 years and still not settling on an acceptable mix

actually, its more like buying the same PC multiple times. Upgrades are good, buying the same crap thats branded differently but crashes the same, thats different, lol.
:P
yeah but it most have a .03 % faliure rate and it has to cost less than 200 bucks then i ll buy itbig_boss4life
If it merely matched the failure rate of the other consoles, that would be a huge victory
But what about all the people who already have old 360s and they get RROD do they get new ones?Izzy12345
many times, they get to continue playing "exchange the refurb" until they get so annoyed, ms is coerced to hand them over a new, functional unit
[QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="6matt6"]wasnt it supposed to be fixed with the new chipset? It came out in the fall.shoeman12
Yep and failed.
have any proof?
has ms announced a fix? you'd think they'd be pretty quick to do that and clear it's good name (maybe even repeal the 3 yr warranty) if that were the case
there's ur proof right there
I wouldn't say EXTINCT, it has probably lowered, but there are still people that complain about the RROD hitting their systems, unless you have a chart or nice graph showing otherwise. What is this RROD everyone speaks about? I'd buy one if I knew they fixed the problem until then I'll stick with my PS3jdc6305
Same here. But then again I think the 08 line up for PS3 is a hell of a lot better than 360 so no.

how about a credible website saying that the 65 nm model has had rrod problems?

doesn't answer my original question
if the falcon was indeed the holy magical fix, ms would be out announcing it like there was no tomorrow
clearly it isn't a fix
all you're going to get is anecdotal evidence. no does prospective, double-blinded, randomized trials to evaluate RROD issues when compared across different chipset sizes and models

so your answer is: no website has yet to report any 65 nm consoles getting the rrod.

and similarly, your answer is: no, microsoft has not acknowledged its supposed falcon savior is indeed responsible for eliminating the rrod
what makes anyone think this newer, smaller chip will be it this time? (another one was planned for this summer)
what makes anyone think this is even possible?
not happening
odds of M$ offering an exchange policy for their broken goods....0.
but my 360 seems fine at the moment, touch wood

they could get it to produce less heat
Exactly. Reducing heat will HELP the problem, but NOT FIX it.
Why do you think they extended the warranty to 3 years? Because they cannot be bothered fixing the RRoD, they will reduce the chance of it happening, but NEVER fix it.
