how could sony seriously keep funding such a lack of production???

shouldnt sony be on top of them to make sure they are doing their jobs????

I was thinking the same thing today oddly enough. I think it's safe to say they weren't taking Turn 10 seriously even after Forza 1/2 but now I think they are.

Because their game sells really really really well? Hell, a $40 demo sold 3 million copies.

GT games sell alot, and it was a good move to imo to not release GT5 yet because now they can take advantage of a $299 PS3 and GT5 together during the holidays and maximize sales.

They have made 4 games in the last 5 years (including GT5P). Remedy, 3D Realms or Silicon Knights must be even slower.

Polyphony Digital does a lot of things non gaming related as well like designing the display in the Nissan GT-R, they also designed the bodykit for the Nissan 350Z it all adds up, they also made a PSP game in that time frame as well.

why?

1) Fanbase

2)Sells millions

3)Yamuchi being involved in major car manufactuar designs (Citreons new sports car, Nissan Skylines Sat Nav)

Gran turismo is has been a major trademark globally, hence why Sony funds them. Its litterly that simple

Why do you care? I dont. All i know is that they release great games. Polyphony are known to be perfectionists and wont release it until they tink its ready, regardless of pressure from the gaming world! Also i think Prologue releases further fund development

Hey, guess what? Sony doesn't care if it takes them 5 years to make a single AA game. Hell, sony could care less if they took longer. What Sony does care about is that the game sells a lot of copies, and PD seems to have a good track record of that.

Because Forza 3 and GT5 are pretty much the closest thing to the exact same game that is exclusive on each system. Just like Halo 3 and Killzone 2 were both the subject of many threads (Gears 2 as well). But I think its even more amplified because theyre basically working within the realm of real life. Its who can create the best looking, best playing, most realistic sim racer. Theres really NOT much artistic freedom. So these two games get put head to head (not to mention GT is probably Sony's biggest franchise by far and away). Thus, we get bashing threads on both devs (although its easier to bash PD simply because they havent put out a game in ages).

Alan Wake was first shown in 2005 and still isn't coming out till 2010, and besides who cares, the game will have 1,000 + cars, do you know how long it takes to make the models, record their engine sounds, and apply different physics for that many cars?? Quite awhile I imagine, now whats taking a game like Alan Wake so long then???

You've got a point there personally i cant compare the 2, i've only seen screen caps of Froza but it does look great. It just seems there's been quite a few PD/GT5 threads today. None the less i'm looking forward to its release.

TC forgot that GT sells like 8 million each game, which is why Sony keeps funding them, because it's always worth it in the end and they rake in the dough everytime a GT game is released.

But what if their budget has gone so far that even 10 million sales won't break even? There is something called the "point of diminishing returns." I'd bet Polyphony passed it a while ago. Plus, Forza 3 could steal away quite a bit of market share since they are coming out earlier, and are throwing in all the casual appeal on top of a very solid console racing sim.

foxhound_fox

Of course perfection isn't attainable, but Polyphony takes a huge chunk of their development time working out bugs, polishing things up and adding in those little details that none of us will notice while playing the game, but will be in our conscience as we do so. It gives the game soul and is one of the reasons why the franchise is so popular.

Actually, no. The reason why its so popular is because it was made popular by the PlayStation brand name. The game forumla has barely changed since the PS days and yet they continue to sell millions of units based on name alone, despite other racing sim series going well beyond what GT has done in the past couple iterations.

Its like Halo. It became popular because of brand name and mainstream appeal... not quality. There are plenty of games out there that are better than Halo, but people don't play them because they don't bear the "Halo" namesake. Its the same with "Gran Turismo." Its why a $40 demo is the highest selling game on the PS3. No other franchise could sell a demo for $40 and sell so many.

Have you even played GT5P? It's a pretty good game and it got the score it deserved here on GS. I agree with GT4's score here as well.

Plus, Forza 3 could steal away quite a bit of market share since they are coming out earlier, and are throwing in all the casual appeal on top of a very solid console racing sim.

You have no clue what you're talking about. PD could spend 10 years on GT5 and the budget would still be smaller than any hollywood movie. Videogames are extremely cheap in relative terms.

Killzone 2 was around 30 million, so you do the math. 10 million copies of GT5 at 60$ a pop = 600 mil, if 50 mil is spent on advertising alone (which isn't the case because 50 mil on advertising is extremely high), and Sony owns Polyphony Digital, where do you think the rest goes?

GT5 wouldn't even have to sell 5 million and it would break even easily.

Yamuchi is the man...he owns a 350z thats sickly modded. His passions are cars and games...which is why the GT series ends up blowing all the rest out of the water.
