Even? Better graphics ( you know thanks to oh mighty cell been confined to 720p and 30fps usually ), KB+M support Mod Support ( which is a HUGE plus for any Valve game looking at mods for Half life series, L4D, Portal, TF2 ) $10 cheaper and call me crazy but it think is safe to assume Valve will support the platform that has a DDservice on with 30+ million users So no is not gonna be even adamosmaki

1. it could have 60 frames. I've said this before, but Consoles, and specifically the PS3 aren't the lowest end machines of this generation....PC's are. PS3 is more powerful than many low end PC's of this generation.

2. PS3 has K/M support. Some PS3 games support it....a bit off topic but I hear DC UNiverse (PS3) will have K/M support too.

3. You might not know, but Unreal Tournament 3 has Mod support. Seeing how Steam/Steamworks is coming to the PS3, and since the Source Engine will be built into the game, Valve very well might enable some sort of Mod Support on Portal 2.

4. We don't know the price. Many Brand New PC games aren't cheaper than their Console counterparts...Black Ops wasn't and neither was Mafia 2 when they launched.

5. There will be 50 million PS3 users when Portal 2 Launches, and there are more people that use PSN. Perhaps that's why Valve wants to tap into it with Steam/Steamworks.

Really? you wanna bet a valve game on pc is gonna be equal on consoles ?

Also wanna bet that a valve game it will have better graphics on consoles rather pc What does have low end pc's have to do with anything? You do know a little think called graphics settings on options menu dont you.

Even so a half-assed $70 5570 is more powerfull than what the ps3 has

Also mod support for UT3 on PS3 is laughable at best. You do know the vast majority of mods dont work on Ps3 thanks to the oh so huge amount of 256mb of ram ( even my 9year old pentium 4 had 512mb )

Also what are those many pc games that cost $60 ( SC2 which is a blizzard and blizzard games always were 60, COD and 2,3 more that i forget ). 5,6 games launched at $60 is not many

Also 50million Ps3 users? Last time i check was a bit more than 40 million users. Also there are hundreds of million pc gamers. Valve is only 1 service and is already more than 30million people and you honestly think valve wont support their OWN platform more than other platforms? That is naive to think. Just like orange box outsold console versions combined i bet portal will sell alot more on Pc just like any valve game

My point is, at the high end, PC are the best graphically for this generation, but at the low end, PC is worse than consoles. So yes, not only can the PS3 be even PC for Portal 2, but in fact, thanks to low end PC's, PS3 can likely be better.....better than the low end PC.

Let me explain a little something, first...PS3 has 512 of total ram. Second, Console Ram and PC ram comparissons aren't an apples to apples comparison. Because of a consoles low overhead and other programing optimizations, often 512MB of Console ram is approx exquivalent to 1.5 - 2GB of Computer ram...approx. That's a ballpark estimate, but its a proper one seeing how games like Batman, Street Fighter, Assassins' Creed, Mass Effect and countless others run on consoles in the first place.

Like I said, with optimizations and programing skill, Valve could very well make Mods work for the PS3's version of Portal 2. Regardless of whether you like UT3's PS3 mod use or not, that was a 2007 game that shows that it could be done. I'm sure Valve can do even better seeing that Portal 2 will be out in 2011

And come Portal 2 time, the PS3 will be at or near 50 million users. Why? Because in their fiscal year end (March 31, 2011), 15 million PS3's will have been sold in fiscal 2010. That was Sony's fiscal forcast, btw.

If Valve wasn't interested in the PS3's community, I'm sure they wouldn't have signed up to not only do games, but also bring STEAM/STEAMWORKS to the PS3/PSN.

Valve even says they want to have PC and PS3 community playing with and against each other.

You know what I call all of that? I call that even.

I'll be looking forward to playing with you on my PS3.

Have a Merry Christmas. :)

SW rational never creases to amaze me.

No matter how powerful gaming PC's become, no matter how cheap post console capabilities is, people still try to look to the bare minimum "none gaming" PC; and try to declare that the PC gaming majority.

You have to be fair here.

I know that High end PC's are better than consoles, technically speaking. I bear no argument against that.

But as a PC gamer, you also have to bear the responsibility for the low end ones as well. You can't just arbitrarily take the good, and pretend you have no bad...not in this case.

In other words.....you have to own up to your responsibilities, so to speak.

PC gaming community and developers have to shoulder the burden of low end PC's.

For a millionth time steam is not coming on PS3 only steamworks 512mb of ram is System Ram and graphics ram. Any decent pc nowdays have 4gb of Ram and 512mb of graphics Ram Also you think opimizations and low overhead can make up for 2-3gb of Ram? All those games have 1gb Ram of minimum requirements so if anything a console can be compared to a Pc with 1gb of ram Also opimizations wont turn that 7800gt to a gtx460. As a fact all those games you listed run at 720p or lower at your console with 30fps while my humble 8800gt can run them at 1080p and some of them like ME and Batman i'm hitting 60fps with a 3year old 8800gt. So no optimization will take you that far you cant compete with something 2,3,4,5x or even more powerfull

Absolute nonsense.

512mb console memory is equal to 512mb memory, there is no magical optimization technique that makes it perform like 1.5-2GB. Console games are able to run with less memory because they use the faster speed for streaming, to swap information out more often, they can only ever hold 512mb at once; and never more.

That is why a Far Cry 1 port was impossible; and they had to create a separate game built with streaming in mind with Far Cry Instincts. That is why a Crysis 1 port was impossible; and they had to create a separate game built with streaming in mind with Crysis 2. Consoles can only ever hold 512mb total memory; and try to swap assets quick enough to hide that fact, it doesn't squeeze a gigabyte worth of information into 512mb of console memory using "optimization".

You have to be fair here.

Fair doesn't even begin to describe the argument you attempted to make. By your rational, consoles are always more powerful than gaming PCs, provided your definition of gaming PC also happens to be Aero Glass specification. You forget that PCs are modular for purpose, you cannot simply count every PC out there when judging PC GAMING specification. You don't even have to rely on high end PC specification, a mainstream level GPU could beat one of today's consoles in a Valve game.

Anyway that's my SW contribution for the evening, guests will be arriving soon.

Considering That I own FAR CRY 2 for my PS3, that is technically superior than Far Cry 1,

You're argument about that is invalidated, I'm afraid.

I don't care how they do it.....they do it. Because of tricks, optimizations, wizardry, voodoo....I don't care.

The point is they do it, and the what you consider ram weaknesses, are obviously mooted.

Ok...if it makes you happy, Steamworks....whatever.

But it's coming to the PS3 and PC and PS3 users will play together.

Btw...DC UNIVERSE has a minimum of 2GB of ram.

while were at it, So does MEDAL OF HONOR, ASSASSIN'S Creed 2, BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2.

If it helps anyone feel better, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit only takes 1.5GB of PC ram :)

Those games I just mentioned (and many more) run on Consoles....period.

In fact, they run better on consoles vs low end PC's.

I'm getting the PS3 version because of free online and because I like playing on the couch

Btw sayhelloquickly

Both of Which you can do on the PC I was just playing some Metro 2033 PC on my couch on a 60" 1080p HDTV and am typing this very post from my couch :D. And valve games all have native 360 controller support as well but portal is a game i would not want to play with a controller would be a frustrating experience like mirrors edgeimo (Strange how the none shooter first person games are the ones I'd least like to play with a controller).

It might.

No one really knows all the details of PS3's "Steamworks" yet or all of everything Valve is going to do with the PS3.

But yeah, it might.

Valve has said that they want PC's and PS3 to play together online, so it can suggest that their might be some mod support to both platforms considering the nature of Portal to begin with.
