Posting on Official Blizzard forums will display your REAL NAME as your ID

"The first and most significant change is that in the near future, anyone posting or replying to a post on official Blizzard forums will be doing so using their Real ID -- that is, their real-life first and last name -- with the option to also display the name of their primary in-game character alongside it. These changes will go into effect on all StarCraft II forums with the launch of the new community site prior to the July 27 release of the game, with the World of Warcraft site and forums following suit near the launch of Cataclysm."

Why have to be female gamers? What about people with ethnic names that may be picked at by racists?

I find it interesting that people who tend to use their real names on the Internet tend to be older and more mature, but younger users tend to use fake names. It may be that older users are veterans of the Internet when it was more personal than it is now.

On the bright side of things, people wont be jerks anymore really... I dare some people to say the things they say and post there real life name...you would have less trolls, racists and hateful comments over all so regardless of the draw backs I promote this. And I hope all of the internet takes this up lmao even gamespot one day in the future... you would notice a difference on a whole new scale.

Why worry? There are about a billion people using the internet. Being worried that someone is going to single you out for posting your actual name on the internet is fairly paranoid.

Whenever you go shopping, you take the risk that someone will steal your identity as you give away far more than your name, often your address, telephone number, etc. goes through as well. If they so chose they could sell your information easily, but at this point you're just being far too paranoid. Sure, some people will get screwed by this system, but the benefits outweigh that. You can't avoid some problems completely, but they aren't going to be an epidemic.

While the concept is interesting, RealID shouldn`t be mandatory. If one wants to use their real name, allow them to do so, if they don`t, well, leave them be.

One thing people don`t get, is that how easy it is to find someone just by their name. And there are bound to be a couple of psychos among those millions of WoW players. For them, it doesn`t matter how much of a nice guy you are.
