Believe me, if you could figure out a way stop pirating, you'd be a very rich man. Beyond rich. You'd be legendary.

I remember reading in a GameDeveloper magazine about pirating techiniques to prevent people from copying Spiro the Dragon. The technology and hoops the guy in charge of the project was intersting and amazing. For example, he had numerious 'pit falls' to fool the copyiers of copying it. One I remember was that the game would run if the hacker copied it a certain way. However, the game would leave out all gems (or whatever he had to collect). The purpose was that the hacker would think he copied it and move on, delaying people actually realizing the copied game wasn't quite right.

Anyway, the other techniques were out of my league a bit. I still have that issue I think. I should dig it up.

Also, spiro eventually did get cracked, and according to the publisher, sales did drop once a few final hacked versions were widespread.

And also, that's why it needs to be reported of people that download illegal ROMs and distribute them, like Chrono Trigger. They can justify them to the courts and see how that flys.

I was surprised to see the email and phone number on Nintendo's website. I'm curious to what type of response they give.

maybe i'll start a blog about it.

Well companies like Sony only have a set number of developers and programmers to secure the psp and the games. Its the same with everyother system/handheld. But then you have a limitless number of hackers who are of equal skill who are exploiting the PSP. Its an on-going battle between the 2 that never ends, and its pretty much "Insert Company Name" vs. the world. So they didnt make it easy, its just they have a disadvantage.
