I am a bit confused about this (Uncharted 3), as I thought all those kickbacks were in the game. Is this just an already unlocked kickback or something? If I cannot use the 3 or 4 kickbacks that are from other stores ever, I will be mad. I hate this pre-order stuff too, but basically the stuff that has a store to store one. If it is a universal one its not too bad.

I suggest that you look at my post along with the one two above yours.

Pre ordering is a gimmick to make more money. That's ridiculous.

It is getting ridiculous. It's worse than actual DLC.

Thanks, I just read an article on this, and they failed to mention that very important aspect. Thanks a lot IGN! :P

These kind of pre-orders don't really bother me, and actually make me laugh more than anything, as its funny that this would be a selling point. I will be pre-ordering Uncharted 3 regardless, and TM is looking great!

[QUOTE="mythrol"]This is the reason I stopped pre-ordering ANY game that offers retail specific bonuses. I don't mind you giving pre-order bonuses, but they should be across the board. Everyone who pre-orders should get it. I've stopped pre-ordering any game until I find out what bonuses they're offering as well. I know I'm going to buy Skyrim. But until I find out if they are going to do retailer specific pre-orders, I refuse to pre-order. And if they are, then I don't care what the bonuses are, I won't be pre-ordering. I might be hurting myself by not getting any pre-order bonus, but if we all just give in then nothing will happen and they will keep doing it. The only game I have pre-ordered right now is Dark Souls for PS3 because OMG!!! Amazon is giving the collectors edition for the regular edition's price. I mean if you look at what the collectors edition has, that's such an awesome deal!

Honestly, why does it matter if it's only a single player game? Multiplayer game I can see, but a single player game? Who cares about specific pre-order bonuses.

You could say that about piracy too. ;)

I just pre-ordered Red Faction Armageddon on Steam and got all the past Red Faction's for free. It depends on what they offer.

I know, and I do. I think the vast majority of second hand sales (and trade) and piracy are not lost sales. What they are really after is of course to take the money from other things that people spend it on.

Pre-orders to get a head advantage in unlocks and abilities are not a new thing at all. This has just been a continuing trend. These booster/kickbacks aren't even that bad compared to the others ones LOL. You guys understand you do unlock all of these things anyways right?

For some reason I got reminded of a time when a certain individual argued with me, defending the excessive pre-order bonuses for Dragon Age 2. So yes, despite most of us being against pre-order bonuses, some clearly are for it.

I remember when preordering a game just meant you'd have a copy day one...

I don't have a problem with pre-order bonuses that encourage sales of new copies. I get where devs are coming from in losing revenue to used sales.

I just can't stand Retail Exclusive Content. Bad enough when there's platform exclsuive DLC, at least 1 system owners are still fixed to what version they're going to buy. So why on top of all that do we have to struggle with WHERE we get our copy from? That creates too much chaos, more than there already is just from the platforms competing with each other. And I don't know anybody who'll get 5 copies of the same game on the same platform.

Just absurd.

Yes, the only ones I like are for $10-$20 Amazon credit. Most of the other pre-order bonuses are too insignificant to matter (for me at least).

Yup, it's been getting horrible in 2011. LA Noire, inFamous, Uncharted 3, and Resistance is also giving players exclusive weapons for pre-orders. nice move, the highlights of the Resistance series are the weapons and they keep some exclusive. This gen really has some horrible flaws.

The industry is getting out of hand in general. Pre-order bonuses, dlc, gimmicky peripherals, $150 collector's editions, DRM, vouchers to play online, HD remakes, etc. have all become prevailent in the past few years. What's next at this rate?

I like the idea and to be honest it won't affect gameplay its just a "Aw cool look what this guy did before i killed him!". It's just one thing someone else has and will be overused, and when something gets overused it gets hated and people strive to outdo it and they usually do, so balance is restored. Like in World at War the MP40 and Juggernaut are overused and overpowered but i found a few ways to even the odds both gameplay wise and weapon/perk wise, wasn't hard you just gotta try things.

Might get the Limited Edition. Not getting the Epic Edition. Doesn't matter how much I like a game I won't pay $70 extra for a figurine or some other junk worth about $25.

I liked the preordering bonuses like the backpack in inFAMOUS 2. LBP also did it right by offering the DLC two months after the release of the game for free. It was more of a time exclusivity than a preorder exclusivity.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of preorder bonuses that affect the main game. One of the ones I hate most is preorder to get a demo of the game you just preordered so you can see if you made a good choice in preordering it... :|

I've just learnt about these bonuses whilst reading up on U3. So we can't be as good as other people in a game just because we didn't pre order it? What a stupid idea.

It's funny because I still have an unopened copy of Starcraft 2 collector's edition(bought a regular copy too). I think I'll wait 5 years and resell it. lol

i was gonna say that actually uncharted 3's preorder way is the best imo, from what im to understand from it, those perks arent exclusive to preorderers, its just EARLY ACCESS, so it would be no different then going up against someone who has been playing the game for a few hours really, way better then having to pre order from 10 places just to get all of the content made for the game

not exactly, its just early access to the perks, so if you work at it youll be better then the people who preordered ;)

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/02/uncharted-3-collector%E2%80%99s-edition-pre-order-details-for-north-america/

i think everyone in this thread should read this, see this link in this post? see it? it says early access, you know what that means? it means that its not exclusive to the retailer, it just means that if you preoder from that place that youll get a voucher with uncharted 3, and with this voucher you get a code on the back of it, you take this code and go to redeem code on ps store, and you enter in this special code that you got, and from there youll get early access to a perk, a perk which can be unlocked through regular play, but you unlock this perk early, its not exclusive to preorderers, you dont have to preorder to get this content, if you would rather pick up uncharted 3 later you can still get this content, this isnt unfair because everyone has access to it

jebus:| i really wish that ign would have reported the full story

eh, Never preodered a game and never will.I just don't understand the concept of preordering it when you can buy the game the 1st day with no problem

Is the preorder gifts the only reason why preorder games?

I've pre ordered a few games in the past, but that was back when doing so meant it guaranteed you a copy. These days there's really no need to. Stores like Gamestop sucker people into doing it. Personally I just don't fall for it, as it would make me feel like an effing b1tch.

I like pre-order bonuses. They give incentive to buy games new. But I do think that they should eventually be available to everyone. Like how LA Noire is doing it.
