Preordered an Xbox One for launch, but didn't know this....

I found this very disappointing. The Xbox One controllers are NOT rechargeable and they still run off of Double A Batteries. Personally, I find this ridiculous as way back in 2006 rechargeables have been standard. Liking my Xbox one preorder less and less...

Right, I knew it was old once I looked into it. But literally, I didm;t pay attention because I thought it would have been so obvious that it was included without saying haha.

Yeah, it would be logical at this point to have built in battery, but that logic seems to elude MS. Or they just want more money, one or tother.

Either way, if you live in ENgland like me:

Xbox One controller: £45

Play and Charge kit: £20

It's costly for controllers. Fortunately, don't need to buy any more than one extra than what is included in box ;)

Honestly, I'd rather have the option especially if an internal battery goes bad. And you can see if rechargeable AA batteries are a cheaper option than the plan and charge kit if that bothers you. Maybe you even have rechargeable batteries at your house already so this is a non issue?

You don't have to replace the battery in a PS4 controller, much like PS3.

It's not as big of a deal as it was early on with the 360. Now days most batteries can recharge several times... Buy a pack for like $10 and you should be good to go a LONG time.

Well. Since 2006 I still have my original DS3 that works perfectly.

Since 2011, I've had my Xbox 360 controller that I've replaced hundreds of batteries for. I have spent $100+ over 3 years on double A's so...now i'm spending $100 more on the console and now I have to spend either $25 more for a feature that should be included, or hundreds on batteries over the life of the console, awesome.

Buy some eneloops and a cheap smart charger. You will curse anything with built in battery packs.

I'm strongly considering it. Not just because of this, but it's because of the many reasons. The 1080p, the Not having Naughty Dog, the rechargeable controller, the $10 less per year for online gaming, the strong game lineups throughput the consoles life. Look at the last year on the PS3 as opposed to the 360...

I think you meant yes..... both options require additional funding.

Normally I would say more options is better but a built-in battery for DS3 and DS4 is waaaay better than needing batteries for it. Even my SIXAXIS controller from 2007 has had no problems with battery life. I never want to buy batteries for something ever again,...except flashlights.

Good batteries are expensive.

Replacing a fault battery is cheaper.

You could just invest in rechargeable batteries and never have to replace it with new ones or go with that chargeable option from MS.

MS loves to screw over consumers with hidden fees and overpriced accessories. You should cancel your preorder. It is not worth it to pay $585 + tax to play games in 720p.

@Evo_nine: I have yet to need to replace a PS3 controller because of battery problems. It wore out way before that happened.

To be fair to Microsoft it's not their fault you were too stupid to buy rechargeable batteries.

rechargeable batteries. you can buy a 4 pack of eneloop AA batteries they'll last forever and always have a fresh pair not requiring you to ever have to plug it in. I prefer this over the plug n play or the built in. which is worse because when the batteries dies the controller is useless

I'm playing with a dying play and charge kit right now.

If you read my post above I've replaced three already.

When I replace this one it will be a total additional cost of £20, if I had to replace the controllers it would be a total of £120.

I know which option I prefer.

Yes the Xbox One not having a rechargeable battery is completely ridiculous but considering that the Xbox 360 came out in 2005 it's not that crazy that it used AA batteries.

It's a shame you got a faulty play and charge kit, doesn't stop what I said being true though. They gave you the option to use their kit or proper rechargeable batteries, you choose not to do that and then complained about the cost, it's kind of your own fault.

I always played with a corded controller, my mic never cut out and I never had my controller disconnect on me mid game, and I could keep the rumble on the highest setting without worry of draining my battery. Plus they were cheaper than the wireless crap.

Oh fun, I get to do this all because Microsoft can't just make their controllers rechargeable like everyone else.

Lems: You're stupid, deal with it. All Microsoft is doing is charging you $100 for an inferior console, $10 more for online gaming and now $25 for the plug and play kit or hundred for batteries. Holy crap, I think I just became a cow in about an hours time.
