I found this very disappointing. The Xbox One controllers are NOT rechargeable and they still run off of Double A Batteries. Personally, I find this ridiculous as way back in 2006 rechargeables have been standard. Liking my Xbox one preorder less and less...

Cancel that bitch and meet me at the Playstation.

I'm strongly considering it. Not just because of this, but it's because of the many reasons. The 1080p, the Not having Naughty Dog, the rechargeable controller, the $10 less per year for online gaming, the strong game lineups throughput the consoles life. Look at the last year on the PS3 as opposed to the 360...

Do it! Meet me at the Playstation. I'll be boarding the Shadow Fall train.

Yes, that's a nice option, but it's one thats included in the PS4 controller. And the PS3 controller too.

I've had to replace three play and charge kits at a cost of £5 each. Replacing three controllers would have cost £30 each. I know which I prefer.

I prefer that I've never replaced a PS controller. You're a moron confirmed

Ok so after all the comments, here's what I got.

Lems: You're stupid, deal with it. All Microsoft is doing is charging you $100 for an inferior console, $10 more for online gaming and now $25 for the plug and play kit or hundred for batteries. Holy crap, I think I just became a cow in about an hours time.

You have seen the light. They are literally idiots who will get rammed hard just to play Halo and kinect

Did you all ever stop to think that rechargeable batteries only have a certain amount of cycles?

Every time you recharge it the life becomes shorter and shorter. Right now I can only play my PS3 for a few hours before I have to recharge the controller again.

The reject shop batteries on my xbox controller have been lasting me for over 30 hours.

But yeah, if youre happy having the same battery charged over and over again good luck to you.

I had to buy 5 new controllers for PS3 cuz the battery died on them :( ......................................

SIKE who actually believes that crock of shit? LMFAO! Neither me or anyone I know has ever had their Battery die on a PS3 controller. But not only that, if the battery we're to die you can replace it for like 10 cents. Or you can send it to Sony and they replace it for free.

LMFAO! Sorry Lems. You're gonna be getting Xboned all gen long and there's no way you can spin your way out of it! LMFAO! AA batteries. What a PoS!

Buy some eneloops and a cheap smart charger. You will curse anything with built in battery packs.

Word! Eneloops last at least twice as long as the built in batteries in the PS3. Plus you can use them for other things. Plus you can have a set charging while you're using a set.

Yep, im a complete convert, dont even use disposable batteries anymore and always have a charged set right in front of me. So i can swap em out rather than getting up and tethering myself to the system with a 15 ft cable or switching controllers.

Also nice when company comes over and you want to do some 4 player couch coop but dont have all your controllers charged, just open my drawer full of precharged eneloops and we are good to go for a long night of multiplayer.

Sure it would be nice to include a rechargeable option for folks assuming it doesnt increase the cost, but if i have to choose between a built in battery pack and the option to use rechargeables, rechargeables all day erry day.

Basically everyone just needs to see the light and get some eneloops.

I think I prefer replaceable batteries as well, have a station and 8 AA's. I dont have the eneloops, just the regular green energizer ones. I haven't had problems with PS3 controllers though, I just always have one charged. I bought a dual PS4 stand to charge my PS4 controllers at the same time.

I still have my rechargeable battery stand from 2005 and 2 pairs of rechargeable batteries that still work perfectly. For me personally I prefer just swapping out batteries every 15 or so hours than worrying about a cable or stand etc. I can understand why this bothers people though.

Well I knew it had AA batteries, and I cancelled my ps4 pre order and went with xbox one after playing both today. The X1 is better, the controller is better and the games are sure as hell better. The ps4 is a good system to get in 2015 when it starts getting some good games. Are you getting Madden or Fifa?

Not sure if you're being sarcastic but no, I'm getting NBA 2K14, Need For Speed: Rivals and COD: Ghosts at launch

It'd be nice if it didn't cost extra, but I've actually preferred the 360 method of having the detachable rechargeable batteries.

It's nice to have a docking station with a handful of battery packs in case you need them for the all-night multiplayer sessions as opposed to the PS3 where if you need to recharge you have to tether your controller to the console. That's lame.

MS only do this cause people still blindly buy the dam thing, you only have yoselves to blame for such bullshit practices im afraid.

You have 2 choices:

1. stop whining about it and keep on giving your money to MS forever more

or

2. buy a ps4 and be done with all MS shit

I'm playing with a dying play and charge kit right now.

If you read my post above I've replaced three already.

When I replace this one it will be a total additional cost of £20, if I had to replace the controllers it would be a total of £120.

I know which option I prefer.

But you don't. Assuming that you have to replace a controller as often as you have to replace some cheap charge kit is beyond stupid. Seriously. Just read what you wrote. You already replaced the silly thing three times! I never had to replace a PS3 controller in what? 7 years? Yeah, great options, dude. Your logic rocks.

I use my controllers daily. Over eight years I've replaced three batteries. That's 2.6 years before they start losing/not holding as much charge. This isn't some made up fantasy logic, this is scientific fact.

Q Why do rechargeable batteries lose their storage capacity over time?

A In rechargeable lithium-ion batteries - the most common type, used in things like laptop computers and cell phones - one of the two electrodes is graphite, a form of pure carbon consisting of sheets of carbon atoms.

Lithium ions are forced between the carbon sheets when the battery is charged and come back out again when the battery is discharged, explains Robert Hamers, a Wisconsin Distinguished Professor and chair of the UW-Madison chemistry department.

"The first few times that a battery is charged, a chemical reaction occurs on the graphite, forming a thin protective layer," Hamers says. "Over time, this layer slowly becomes thicker and eventually begins to block the flow of electrical current needed to charge the battery, degrading the performance."

A second reason the storage capacity diminishes is physical wear of the graphite itself, he adds. "There is a large volume change as the graphite expands and contracts. Over time that causes the graphite to flake and small particles to break off."

In nickel-metal-hydride batteries, the second-most common rechargeable battery, a small amount of water helps carry electrical charges between the two electrodes. Each time the battery is charged or discharged, side reactions convert some of the water to hydrogen and oxygen, which slowly leak out of the cell. When there is not enough water left, the battery dies.

So, yes. Replacing three battery packs is better than replacing three controllers. A net saving of £100 for me.

Lol, people still buying in to MS's rumour about in-built batteries dying all the time. Those batteries lasts longer than the controller itself. The analog sticks will be the first to go.

Lemming milk is so sweet that why MS milk them so much. Still using AA battery and milking for charge kit. Even hardcore fan in this thread admit losing or kit breaking, costing more money. On ps3 and ps4 you just plug cheap usb cord and controller charges out of box. TLHBO

Jesus...Who the hell doesn't own some rechargeable AA batteries in this day in age? Tons of stuff use them.

Not that I'm buying an XBone any time soon, but I'm glad they went the AA battery way again.I hate having to sit playing my PS3 with a 10' USB cable plugged into my controller after it goes dead.
