Is this the start of proper online only. MG5 on consoles is cheaper then PC steam and PC not got a retail version Now they can start charging what they want later. This is more then Consoles version boxed. PS4 and X1 both £41.86p on amazon here for PC download £45,99?. Makes you want to wait for mid week madness or sales.

So, then look at other examples. This year on PC I bought.

The Witcher 3 for $24.99 and Fallout 4 for $36. Consoles simply cannot compare.

When you learn how to Google everything is cheaper (remember this is the price in Euros, GBP is even less)

I got it for free with my new graphics card anyway.

In Canada the price for console games has increase to 75$+tx due to the pathetically weak dollar. PC games are easy to find for half that price on launch.

The price of new console games in Canada is $80 plus tax. On Steam, major releases are $60+ with no tax -- so long as that company doesn't reside in Canada IIRC.

They're trying to push their luck on Steam. I mean look at Fallout 4, it's priced (on Steam) at £50.

Does it matter , one day it will be 2 bits on a steam sale.

Typical... "steam is expensive, so this is now setting the bar" ... could probably pick the game up for half price on G2A .... or 20% cheaper on GMG ... or just google.

You know... because Steam Keys can be boughtfrom MOST vendors that are cheaper than steam.

Meanwhile, are we going to ignore that console games in general are far more expensive both retail and digital format? with no option until a few months later where second hand works (ofcourse never applies to digital).

They cost basically the same if I bought any version on amazon here and you can buy the PC version on GMG for a cheaper price than the console version.

You could buy MGS5:PP for ~40 USD from resellers. Those are from nVidia 9xx card bundles. Not safe though (IMO).

Not comparable. PC is largely the DRM digital platform.

And anyways, you can get physical copy's of console games for below $10 during a lot of sales.

That said, digital vs. digital, PC wins. Can't beat those humble bundles. But then again, sales aside, i've found PC games to be just as expensive (or more so) than their console counterparts. Digital content in general has a problem with coming down in price really slowly except for sales.

But its the 1st time I have seen a game that's steam only and not boxed whats a AAA game. So its like the start of the online only download proper and they will try other games with even more of a price hike.

So when you PC gamers get bored or didn´t like a game what you do with it ? who ? me ? oh well I can sell my physical copy in e-bay or trade it in for something else at places like BlockBuster ( yes, it´s still alive in Mexico ) or Gamers/GamePlanet ( Mexico´s equivalents to GameStop ), there are lots of possibilities for some cash return on console games.

That one thing ive not been able to do for last couple of years been a PC gamer. Even boxed version need steam still so no chance of trading in games after words. Can be good some times if you sold your game and wanted to play again you cant. So at least steam forces you to keep them and if for some reason you get an urge to play an older game you can.

I would have sold the witcher by no but glad I didn't as playing it from beginning and enjoying it. But if I could have at the time when I didn't like it I would have sold it and probably brought again.

Can't do much on PC. Doesn't bother me, considering the prices I can get games at in a sale.

I rarely pay more than $30 for console games. Console games also hold resale value.

Price comparison should always be based on USD, not obscure currencies like CAD, GBP or the Euro which fluctuate all over the place.

Not really, it fluctuates but not to the level these other currencies do, that's one of the main reasons it's still the world currency, it's consistent. Also on top of that the US is not hit with all of these import fees and odd localized taxes like other countries are, you pretty much get an unadulterated product price.

I work with currency day in and day out. It can fluctuate within 2-3 cents a day, which is roughly how the other currencies fluctuate. I consistently have to watch the market/mid-point rates. All majors tend to stay fairly stable. The USD is strong as all hell right now, which is why it trades at roughly 76¢ against CAD.

Over the past few months it's gained heavily against multiple currencies.

In comparison to most majors, it's fluctuated quite a lot recently.

CAD was 1 to 1 with USD 2 years ago. Hell, it was just 0.96 a year ago. Now it's 0.76. Doesn't look anything like stable to me.

Cool. But release games costed 60 dollars 8 years ago, they cost 60 dollars today. Where is the fluctuation here ?

Yep. The currency has gone strength to strength. Fluctuation doesn't mean it goes from being stronger to being weaker all the time, just that the market rates can fluctuate by large margins. Like I said, the USD fluctuates wildly, because it's a world currency, and due to a multitude of factors (i.e. the devaluing of currency, such as the CNY recently).

@jhonMalcovich said:

What? Games aren't going to get cheaper because the dollar is stronger in the home country... There are far too many factors involved. However, in Canada publishers have increased game costs due to the poor performance of the CAD to the USD.

@lundy86_4: I can't really complain about games costs in Canada. MGS PP is 75 CAD here, which is arround 57USD, completely a fair price. Not like in Europe, where they charge 60 EUROS lol

Also PS4 Last of Us edition is like only 440CAD here (340USD)

@jhonMalcovich: The publishers are looking to recoup costs, with the poor performance of the dollar. Having to pay $75/80 plus tax is getting crazy, but it's justifiable. The end of this year is gonna cost me a fortune, as i'm gonna be spending almost $90 a game. Somehow, it's still less expensive than buying games when I grew up in the UK.

Do Americans have to pay the tax too, or 60USD is the final price for them ?

I think it depends on the state. Some have no tax, and some have tax up to 8% or so, IIRC.

I don't doubt PC is cheaper in long run, they've a stronger digital marketplace with more competitive pricing and consumer friendly rights retention. Though, consoles can have an attractive initial price, and ease of use compared to PC. Consoles are especially bad too when it comes to managing game prices to be competitive in long run, games seemingly going for their initial asking price a lot longer on console digital store with less opportunistic sales compared to physical media retailers who often sell things cheaper to both compete between retailers and to sell of inventory before sales go stagnant.

It is really difficult downloading a game and then playing it.

It is really difficult sharing, trading or selling those digital games.

I don't really feel the need to do any of those things. Most of the games I pay full price for, such as Witcher 3 or GTA V, I want to keep in my digital library to play again.

Honestly I really don't care much for the minor price differences in costs of games between consoles and pc.. As a pc gamer now a days, I would pay $100 for a game if it meant I would be into it for years on end..

Actually it's quite easy to share games with close friends and family with things like the Steam family friend share features..

That's the beauty of physical copies, I can keep them forever and re-play them too. :P

In my case, I have family and friends who have the same systems I do, so it's important to me to be able to lend them my games and let them enjoy them without having to buy additional versions of the same game.

PC is good for Steam Sales. The last game I bought at launch for PC was Diablo 3 and I bought the physical copy. I dont pay full retail for any DD game on any platform.

PC games are a lot cheaper, but they're also a gamble, because I can't sell them if I don't like them.
