in what sense ur pc plays games better ? graphic wise ?

WilliamRLBaker

Everything.

Graphics and performance. There are so many things that are categorised in graphics such as anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, textures, draw distances, density of objects, effects, DX11, tessellation, etc.

Performance is the one that makes PC games much more enjoyable. Console games are capped at 30fps (drops below that often, actually) and PC is open to performance depending on the hardware. It's mostly 60fps for me.

I also have the choice of playing games on the keyboard & mouse or controller.

so graphics alone. check.

So load times(performance) are part of graphics?

At 400$ it will sell like hot cakes with some good games coming up, sony is going strong. I think the price will decide who will make a good first impression

It'll sell and Sony will lose $200+ on every sale. I'll be surprised if they release it at that low of a price. I guess Sony doesn't mind losing billions again.

Really based on what sony will lose $200+ on every unit...

He based it on nothing, there is no reason to think at $400 they would lose $200, as I said, all the specs seem fair only the 8GB's of GDDR5 really stand out as what might be expensive. But the last thing I saw was that it most likely costs about $450 to manufacture, they could easily make back that $50 after a few games sold, especially first party games.

So i've been surfing until i see this, anyhow it seems just a prediction imo.

So what do you think will it start good or slow start?

Let the predictions begin

BZSIN

According to google,400 pounds = 622 usd. I REALLY dont think sony will charge 600 usd for a console again.

It doesn't work like that. The UK launch price of the PS3 was £425, which worked out to roughly $800 at the time.

I'll guess at $400-450 in the US, and £350 in the UK.

Exactly in europe we are kind of ripped off, its like the same number just a different currency which makes a big difference... sad but true

I am not sure if they put it at that price they will loose a lot, actually comparing the ps3 to the ps4 in that matter is a mistake because the blu-ray was new technology then and that hurt the sony, I cant think of a reason why the ps4 should be as expensive as the ps3 launch.

All those are done by the PS4 GPU,oh and the PS4 has features over DirectX 11.1+.. PC if even more of a mess because some GPU can keep constant frames other just plain don't,and the majority on Steam are under power vs the PS4,Titans,680GTX,7970,670 and all that sh** have very low adoption rates because of its price,so most PC gamers now by steam play on hardware under power vs the PS4.

Owned.

I find it funny how most of you say, "if Sony were smart, they'd price it cheap to move units." I don't know how much it costs to make PS4, but I'm almost certain they'd sell them at a profit.

It's loss-leading. Companies sell one product at a loss (console), in order to profit on supplementary products at a profit (games).

It is possible to make back the initial loss with royalties from software, but this does not always guaranteed a better economic profit, especially if you look at Sony's current position right now.

I won't argue that. It's not even remotely a guarantee. Regardless, consoles are a very popular loss-leading product. Only Nintendo typically sell at a profit (and I believe they haven't, on occasion).

leaked prices were $430 and $530 respectivly...I'll go with thoes.

casharmy

Same here man... After all the rumors that were true for the PS4. I would think that since these prices have been leaked on quite a few websites in a relatively short amount of time that is completely possible.

I am a sucker and will buy the most expensive model... I am REALLY REALLY hoping that like the PS1 and PS2 that we can use removable memory cards. My PS3 memory was full relatively fast on both my first and 2nd PS3's... I absolutely HATE deleting save files.. why and the hell can we not have the option of hard drive OR memory card?

Anyways, I lost track of my thoughts... lol

Where I was going with the whole "buying the more expensive version" was that I am sure no matter HOW BIG the hard drive is that I will undoubtedly fill it up... :(

Yes, I know that you can put a larger HD in the PS3... however, I dont know much about that kind of shit, and I would not void my warranty doing something that I know nothing about...

I am not starting an arguement, I just want get my point across the board, so feel free to correct me if you guys have a good reason to. I'll try to explain why it's better for Sony to sell at a profit than trying to make back the initial loss with royalties.

Imagine if sony sell the PS4 at a loss of $50, they can move 10 milion units; whereas if they sell it at a profit of $50, they can move 5 million units (let me know if this is not realistic!). And the attach rate is 10 software paid at full price for each system sold. Now Sony can get $10 from each of these softwares (again, let me know if I'm wrong).

In the end, Sony'd earn $500mil if they sell at a loss and $750mil if they sell at a profit. So wouldn't it be smarter to sell at a profit then? And I haven't even factored in inflation yet, It'd be wiser for sony to grab the cash now than earning it back later.

Edit: let me know if you guys want tochange any of the variables, I'd do the maths again for you.

A USB flash drive is just as good as a memory card these days.

I think Sony will launch with two models,

$399 and $499

With no option to save to that media it is kind of irrelevant though...

I know I can save smaller game saves and then go to the save folder and copy/paste it onto a flash drive... however, I dont believe I would have the option to LOAD that save file from that media after loading a game making it completely useless. I do not want a three ring circus where I have to jump through hoops of fire to retain game saves and then restore them to the PS3 if I actually ever intend to load them again. I want removable media ala PS1 and PS2 memory cards. I want hardrive/removable media option.

Maybe I am wrong about this, and I sure as hell would like some more information if I am, because I am certainly open to ideas. If somebody could provide a link if it is possible, then that would be clutch... however, like I said, I'm way to damn lazy for taking multiple steps to a "better" solution.. heh.

I'm all about ease of access.. which is probably why PC gaming has not ever fully captivated me.

I agree. One of my least favorite things about this gen was the lack of memory cards. I feel like I should be able to have my PSN account on a memory card and take it to peoples houses to play my games.

There's additional benefits beyond just higher game sales/royalties

  • more accessory sales
  • more PSN subs - gold , platinum (rumored)
  • more media puchases - TV shows , movies , etc.
  • more DLC sales
  • more spent on Home crap , avatars , themes , etc.

Let's be honest, we just want Sony to sell PS4 at a loss so we can paid less for it lol. If you really find out the price at which Sony'll make the maximum profit, just focus of initial investment, market demand ,gradual return/ profit from softwares and interest rate. Accessory sales don't really apply since you prob won't buy more over a set number overtime and people who buy a ps4 later can still buy the accessories.

Oh unless the accessories are designed to RROD.

$400-450 most likely. They can easily take a loss of $100 or so on the hardware. Or they could try to shock us all and go for $350-400/450.

No matter how expensive it is, it's worth the price, unlike those pesky gaming PC's.

I'm expecting £350 to £400.

But I'm not spending that much money on a console when my PC play games better.

I'll say about 350-450. If sony could do a PS4/PSV combo for 5-600 I'll be happy :)

MS loss 3.1 Billions at the start of the generation, and already they make them back and some nice profits as well.. Sony never ever sell hardware for profits,at least not at the start of the generation, the PS3 is different is a money pit for sony, because of the way it was design, much like the original xbox was,in fact f MS would have keep the xbox 2 more years alive it would have eat out of them 2 more billions,it was the way the hardware was design it just wasn't good business. The PS4 is cheap hardware the only thing expensive is GDDR5,which i am sure will give sony no problems, specially since they double the order from 4GB to 8Gb per unit, that mean more chips, that also mean lower price thanks to mass production. The PS4 APU is say to cost $80 dollars, compare that to the PS3 the RSX was like $130 and Cell like $100,so basically in to component alone you have $230 dollars, when now those for the PS4 don't cost even half.. There is also profits from games and services, not just royalties.

[QUOTE="Cyberdot"]

I'm expecting £350 to £400.

But I'm not spending that much money on a console when my PC play games better.

Dream on...

It would be suicide for Sony to release it more than £400 again.

If they release before the Xbox 720, should be around 500$.

If Sony wants to really move numbers here, they better price it at £300-£350

megaspiderweb09

You mean if they want to lose loads of money on each console?

Sony cannot afford to be dumb twice. They have to price the PS4 to sell and sell quick. I figure that Sony will want to make the PS4 very consumer friendly this time around, so Im betting on a range of $349-$499.

No matter how expensive it is, it's worth the price, unlike those pesky gaming PC's.

That is one hell of a precise prediction. Good thing you gave yourself that 1 cent margin of error ;)

I'm embarrassed that I have to give any margin for error at all :(

There is no way Sony's console that has been compared to a "High end PC" will cost anything less than $600. Unless it isn't actually as "high end" as people have been saying it is.

I think it will be in the $400-500 range. Sony will be selling it at a loss but have tiered online feature services to get some more money from those that want extra features. If Sony is smart than basic online play will remain free.
