the news is on this web site

im sorry but this is ridiculous, MS wanted the headstart and they got it, and now the are trying to keep up with new technology that will become standard

once again proving that sony is extremely smart and plans for the future better that anybody

and dont even compare this to ps2 slime, ps2 slim didnt come out 1.5 years after the original comsole release, and ps2 slime didnt have a better video output added on, all ps2 slim was samller and had the network adapter built in, and it came out several years later. ps2 slim didnt alienate early opters, at all.

if i already had a 360 and had an HDTV i would be really pissed off!

no wonder MS stillHAS NOTmade a profit in their game division! my advice MS for xbox720 release it in the US only and include a bluray drive in it!Raidea

So...somehow MS adding parts to their console for no additional cost to the consumer is a bad thing?

For the early adopters yes. But im perfectly fine with the component cables that came with my Pro 360. I was able to play HD out of the box, PS3 doesn't include HD wires. You have to buy them yourself :(

Meh, I don't care. I think it's cool that they are adding these features and such and they aren't advertising the hell out of them either.

I really have no need for hdmi, but it would be neat to have it in case. If my 360 every dies, I'll be happy to send it in, because chances are I'll get a pimped out new 360 with hdmi and (maybe) the new cooler chip inside.

I will buy a xbox soon but if you look at all different consol they have put out it does seem like MS have no clear vision

how to build a next gen machine. First you have the core then premium thenyou have the elite.

I don't get what you're saying....Becuase MS didn't include an HDMI until recently, they've alienated early adopters? BTW, you can do a VGA to HDMI converter if you're really that anal about HDMI. Otherwise its pretty much useless this gen.

whoisryanmack

useless?

Pretty much. without a 1080p source, there's really no reason for it....so this is really only bad for those who bought the hd-dvd add on. Like I said as well, anyone could already have hdmi thru vga if they really wanted.

Hdmi is a digital transmitter of uncompressed streams, that means even if it's in a low resolution as 480p it will still give you a better videoquality than VGA, and that VGA to hdmi converter that 360 had wasnt even digital - that's why they added a hdmi input....

Didn't sony just announce rumble, and a $100 price drop on their 60gb model, PLUS give people an extra 20gb for $600? In case you still have your fanboy goggles on that means:

1. Early adpoters now have to pay for rumble. Ouch.

2. Those who spent $600 a mere 8 months ago on the 60GB get screwed out of $100. Super ouch.

3. Those who spent $600 a mere 8 months ago on the 60GB get screwed because for the same price people are now getting 20 gigs more. Ouch again.

I feel so badly for cows. I would be enraged, demanding my money back from sony.

Nothing changed except for the hard drive size, they didnt add no new dvd player, they didnt add no new hdmi input, they didnt add no cooler chip... We didnt get no cheap ass overclocked CPU, stuck into a box and charged a premium fee for our slow cooking components....

The new Xbox 360 models shouldn't be compared to the PS2 Slimline. The Slimline is, after all, a much more drastic hardware revision. In fact, the new 360s are much more comparable to the V9 PS2s, which added an infrared port for the optional DVD remote control, removed the IEEE 1394 port, added the capability to read DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs, added progressive-scan output of DVD movies, and added a quieter fan. For a Sony fan, you sure don't know your own hardware history well enough.

There is a good reason why we're comparing them: to show that hardware revisions are a natural progression in consoles. You can't escape it, the companies will always be tinkering with the insides of their consoles, adding stuff and taking stuff away. It's normal in all fields of electronics. Sure, some early adopters may get shafted, but at the end of the day you just have to move on. This is business and they're only doing it to cut costs and as a result boost their sales. If they didn't do that, they'd get nowhere. But then again, there's a much easier response to "Maybe the 360 shouldn't be compared to ps2" -- the monthly sales speak for themselves, the PS2 is rivalled only by the Wii and DS.

How many people have a 1080p TV? I have a 32" Samsung LCD that supports 720p. To me HDMI is useless and I think that Microsoft is making a good move by adding this feature in future consoles. I for one am not pissed off about it.

For those of us who didn't buy our HDTV in the last two years, adding HDMI doesn't affect us. Most of us don't have a HDMI port on the back of our sets.

I guess you know that PS2 release was hastened by sony to sell more units than their opponents, by doing that they released an unfinished product that had hardware failures and wasn't future proof. What Microsoft did - was exactly the opposite, they took their time and two years later they released a twice better and reliable console than PS2 (Same reason why i bought an xbox prev gen).

Anyway, instead of learning from Sony's mistakes, they just copied their strategy and did the same what Sony did with ps2.

So, if your fine with what Sony did previous gen and like to be screwed every six months, go buy yourself a 360. Just don't buy the core version, because some games will require a HDD.

Oh yeah? What about the early PS2 adopters getting the piss poor laser in the dvd drive? Every early PS2 adopter I know had the DRE issue. Then they had to buy the Netowrk adapter, while the slim ones didn't. It happens. No one is getting shafted with this. The old 360 supports every feature the new one does. Having HDMI, while nice, is not that big of a deal. There is no audio or video difference between HDMI or component+optical out on the 360, so it is a non issue really.

its true- early adopters always get a raw deal.

You pay more, you get a product with hardware bugs plus there's often a lack of AAA games...

if you do the sensible thing & wait, you pay less, get a product with hopefully most of the bugs ironed out plus there are usually more AAA games on the market...

winner-ps3

hardware bugs is only a 360 thing

Oh yeah? Is that why sony got sued for the PS2 and the DRE? Only a s360 thing though.

Indeed, early systems were plagued by DREs. The worst part was when Sony refused to admit there was a problem. That's the big difference: Microsoft chose to spend $1 billion extending the warranty and reimbursing people who had problems, whereas Sony were forced with lawsuits. I agree with you in most respects, but I disagree that the PS2 wasn't future proof. DVD is a testament to that, as is very early component cable support. Sure, they added more functionality to it like DVD-RW and DVD-R+ support, and progressive scan, but much of it remained the same until the Slim. At least the online component could be added via the expansion bay. Personally, I bought my PS2 in 2001 to play MGS2 and have had zero problems since. I have confidence in buying a PS3 this month for MGS4 next year.

1. the majority of hdtv on the market don't have hdmi.

2. sony is releasing an 80gb model less than a year after the ps3 launched... nice double standards....

3. sce is at 2 billion in losses at the 6 month mark, with more losses projected. you really shouldn't talk about money making being a sony fan...;)

4. the early ps3 adopters didnt' get the $100 savings or the 80gb version....

seeing things kinda one sided dontcha think..? ;)

Nothing changed huh? Correct me if I am wrong, but the new 80GB PS3, has removed the EE, and now relies on software for BC. SO that in and of itself entails a hardware change, as well as a new motherboard layout. So more changed than just the HD size.

No you don't. You wait untill it dies (It most prolly will) They will send you a revised premium. If it doesn't die "help" it along a bit. If your that desperate for HDMI.

I got some news for some of you guys. Constantly upgrading the Hardware is going to become par for the course on consoles and it could kill the console as we know it.

As time goes by many of the criticisms I used to have about PC gaming are going away. There was a time when you knew you could buy a console and didn't have to wonder if in 2 months the company would be releasing one with "more x" or "bigger y" or a "z that won't overheat".

Those days are gone.

The days of buying your little black box and it lasting 5 or more years are gone.

You don't own one anyways. If you do, don't worry about it anyways, it is just an HDMI port. Big deal. Component looks justa s good.

If you think them changing the hardware is "screwing" you, thn you should probably not buy anything at all. They will all change the hadware over time. When I buy something, I look at what I am buying right there, not what they might add to it or take away from it in the future. It is stupid to get mad about this stuff. You knew what you were buying, if you didn't like the fact it didn't have HDMI, then you shouldn't have bought it(not you personally, just anyone who is complaining). THere is always a chance they will change things down the line.

It makes sense that they did this actually, now they can use one motherboard layout for all SKU's instead of having a seperate layout for the Elite. More cost effecient this way.

MS sure has a lot of different versions of their console. It leaves me thinking that they should start building consoles like PCs, with interchangable parts.

[QUOTE="-Spock-"]

[QUOTE="Realtop"]Maybe the 360 shouldn't be compared to ps2... It's next gen now - there is a newer console called ps3. mtron32

MS sure has a lot of different versions of their console. It leaves me thinking that they should start building consoles like PCs, with interchangable parts.

There were over 9 different versions of the PS2, and so far no less than 4 different PS3's....

Microsoft is just making their system better, as to be expected in a console war.

There is nothing wrong with adding new features to help sway consumers who are still on the fence about which console to buy. Do you think all those millions of potential customers care whether or not Microsoft added HDMI-out to the Premium? I bet that helps them with their buying decision a great deal.

As for early adopters, they'll just have to live with it. They got to play the Xbox 360 for nearly two years - that was the benefit they received of being an early adopter.

I'm not going to get another Xbox 360 - I don't care what Microsoft adds to the console in the future. Each and every one of them will do the same thing - play Xbox 360 games. I'm just glad that Microsoft is being aggressive in improving the hardware and not sitting on their hands.

You honestly think you will see a difference between a Component Video signal or VGA signal and a HDMI signal? I doubt it.

snyper1982

Yes, have ever played a console on Hd ready or a Full Hd tv? I guess you havent.

Nothing changed huh? Correct me if I am wrong, but the new 80GB PS3, has removed the EE, and now relies on software for BC. SO that in and of itself entails a hardware change, as well as a new motherboard layout. So more changed than just the HD size.

snyper1982

You're a bit misinformed, the EE chips were removed since the European launch and were disabled in every console since the 1.30 firmware update (March 23rd same date as the European release), thanks to software emulation every PS1 and PS2 game is now upscalable to 720/1080P and have smoothing and better sound...

More cost effecient this way.

snyper1982

I always wait until all the consoles are available, then i choose the best one out of them, previous gen it was the xbox and this gen it's the PS3. The reason why i choose the ps3 is because it has a free online build in HDD, Blu-ray player, blutooth, low failure rate, Hdmi input (Yes I have a hd tv), so it looks like a futureproof console (just like the 1st xbox) that doesn't need any improvements - so that i wont have to worry about anything.

There isn't a huge difference between HDMI and using the AV to plug in, just check some websites they usually say so...i read it a long time ago so i have no idea where to look for it...it's more for convenience than anything else. HDMI is pretty sweet afterall.

I don't get what you're saying....Becuase MS didn't include an HDMI until recently, they've alienated early adopters? BTW, you can do a VGA to HDMI converter if you're really that anal about HDMI. Otherwise its pretty much useless this gen.

HAHAHA....anal! I just found that funny!

[QUOTE="winner-ps3"]

the news is on this web site

im sorry but this is ridiculous, MS wanted the headstart and they got it, and now the are trying to keep up with new technology that will become standard

once again proving that sony is extremely smart and plans for the future better that anybody

and dont even compare this to ps2 slime, ps2 slim didnt come out 1.5 years after the original comsole release, and ps2 slime didnt have a better video output added on, all ps2 slim was samller and had the network adapter built in, and it came out several years later. ps2 slim didnt alienate early opters, at all.

if i already had a 360 and had an HDTV i would be really pissed off!

no wonder MS stillHAS NOTmade a profit in their game division! my advice MS for xbox720 release it in the US only and include a bluray drive in it!Raidea

So...somehow MS adding parts to their console for no additional cost to the consumer is a bad thing?

not really..its DVI to HDMI

But either way VGA gives the same output HDMI gives, and optical gives better sound imo ;)

?? whats wrong with this? $300 for a premium and HDMI? Add a $180 player and its still cheaper then the PS3, with better games AND movies. Dont believe me, go look at amazon and bestbuy and tally what movies on each format u like. If you have more for blu-ray, you dont like good movies.

**dont not done
