First, a video of the editor, which looks just as easy to use as Spore's editor:

http://www.projectoffset.com/media/video5.html

And a "Meteor Demo", which looks better (or at least more impressive) than Crysis:

http://www.projectoffset.com/media/video6.html

Or download it at 1920*1080, but pretty meh bitrate here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ityixnmmzj5/Meteor.wmv

The main site has been updated, now it looks truly professional:

http://www.projectoffset.com/

We are currently working on adding our GDC content and footage -- which will be rolling out throughout the next few hours and days.

Some videos from Intel:

http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/wind-demo/

http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/meteor-behind-the-scenes/

http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/destruction/

http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/blockout-elevator/

Larrabee will be shown today at GDC, there are three keynotes. We can expect more info about PO.

The meteor video is available in high resolution, but the speed is atrocious.

Right click the name of the video and save as (or stream it).

Maybe someone can download it fast and upload it somewhere else?

That destruction video was extremely impressive. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Offset Software incorporates all those effects into their game.

Crysis will kill this.

Quote me. If this surpasses Crysis in graphics, I will leave GameSpot forever, kill my parents, go to a school and slaughter some kids, hijack an airplane and crash it into the White House.

Quote me on this, all users on GameSpot. Oh, and this is not a joke.

Well, the mountain background lightning looks more natural than in Crysis, and those particle effects are only possible at a playable framerate on PhysX enabled cards (or Larrabee's cores, as we see here).

Seriously, do you really think Intel's showcase game for their new and revolutionary GPU will look worse than Warhead? They can't afford that. The team doesn't even have a set milestone except for "please be ready when Larrabee launches", or any Intel interference, they can eat all the money and manpower they want to ship the game on that date and make it look incredible. Intel gave them like three dozens of programmers to work on it.

Couldn't care less. That's what I'm willing to do if this game transcends Crysis. You guys all underestimate the graphics power of Crysis.

I agree this game looks special, but it's stupid to say that Crysis will be killed by this, unless you're comparing this to Crysis with medium settings enabled.

LOL, that video actually shows stuff bouncing around on the ground, Crysis doesn't have any of those effects especially from explosions the debris just dissappears, unlike that video. So you may be leaving Gamespot, but do everyone a favor a forget those other foolish things.

But still, can anyone play Crysis at it's absolute highest settings yet? I'm just going from what I see in the video compared to when I played Crysis on High, and keeping in mind that Crysis can lookbetterthan what I played, and more so in the future.

It was playable at the highest settings at launch, just not on monster resolutions. A fast dual-core or a low quad, 3 GB Ram and a 8/9800GTX are enough for 30 fps at 720p. I play it at Very High on a Q6600 at stock speeds, 2 GB Ram and a 9800GT, and have 20-25 fps at 1280*1024. The swap is sometimes annoying, but it's worth it for how it looks. Note that it's general knowledge that Crysis at 20 fps somehow feels smoother than other games.

Mods and various engine tweaks don't really count, even Wolfenstein 3D can be made to run at 15 fps like that.

TheEliteTeam20

No it doesn't.

Thisengine invented the Self-Shadowing tech and Cinematic Motion Blur that everyone loves so much in modern games.

They recent added the functionality of Ambient Occlusion to match Crysis.

Their physics blows Crysis away because they are using Havok Based Procedural Destruction.

Particle Effects are physics based.

They are running on a far more advanced tech....

This game will kill Crysis.

I tried it at Very High too, but didn't think the improvement was enough to be worth the lower frame rate. If we're talking about Very High (I wasthinking along the lines of Ultra High), then I admit Project Offset may be a better looking game.

*sigh*

As I said in my edited post (it went through the same time as yours), I was thinking along the lines of things like Ultra High settings, because I don't know how good Crysis can potentially look. However, if we don't consider those kinds of things, then yes I agree Project Offset will look better.

very high is NOT the highest graphical setting crysis has... ever heard of the autoexec.cfg file? if you put project offset (hell, ANY game) against crysis looking at its absolute best (ToD tweaks, autoexec.cfg tweaks, custom maps / textures), nothing can beat it, its that simple

What do you mean? Larrabee is pretty similar to a CPU, and in theory any program can be made to run on it, but it's still a GPU.

It's the highest graphical settings available by default.

What about PO's config and modifications?

There are Quake engine tweaks, mods and stuff that make it run at 10 fps on DX10 cards and look amazing, but that doesn't mean one of the best looking games was launched in 1996.

lol very high is not Crysis at max output. Not only can you alter the settings in the files themselves to output more, there's tons of mods that make Crysis photo-realistic.

Indeed..took forever for me to download. I uploaded it to MediaFire if anyone wants to download it at a better speed. The clip is 1920x1080, but the bitrate isn't spectacular. Still looks much better than the lower-quality streamed one: Link.

Somehow I would doubt that, I think it would just be optimized to run for it, several PC games can run on a Larrabee right now, but they are normal PC games, I'm sure Offset should run on a regular PC as well. This looks pretty sweet anyway.

I think it's safe to say that unless you have an i7, those particle effects will destroy your non-Larrabee computer.

But the old demos ran on a 6800 Ultra, which is incredible. So it will be very scalable.

Nope. According to the devs, you cannot run this through DirectX or OpenGL. It has to be ran through software rendering which is what the Larrabee does.

Read the article. I am currently searching the internet for more information but everything I found seems to say "Intel-based platform exclusive" or "Larrabee exclusive". If I find anything that says contrary I'll post it, but from what I can find, you CANNOT play this game unless you have a Larrabee.

I hope that isn't true since I was so excited for this game and looks so great.

Nope. According to the devs, you cannot run this through DirectX or OpenGL. It has to be ran through software rendering which is what the Larrabee does.

Oh.

Well, Larrabee's awesome anyway.

No. From what I gather from the internet, you HAVE to have a Larrabee to run this game.

DeckardLee

I seriously doubt that unless they want to alienate a lot of customers. God I wish Intel would just die already.

The game will have much less potential customers at launch than Crysis if that's true.

I made a topic in the offical site's forums. Hopefully, we'll get a definite answer. If it can't be played on DirectX/OpenGL cards then I'm not even going to bother to get it or worry about it anymore. I remember those old games that were designed around 3DFX Glide that you can't play well now. I'm not going to buy a game that I won't be able to play with anything but a specific set of hardware. This isn't a console damnit!

Hopefully, if this does happen they'll have such a terrible launch that they'll try their best to port it over to other graphic solutions.

totally agree and I dont know if Project offset can pull as many consumers to it off it graphics alone that Crysis did to begin with Why cant Intel just stay the #### out of the GPU market

If I were Intel, I'd ship it free with any version of the card.

Crysis had a huge install base, even Shader 2 cards run it, and it's playable on systems below the minimum recommended. I know because I finished it a few times on such a machine.

Sonic - why do you hate Intel?

Larrabee's revolutionary, it offers linear scalability and developers can program absolutely anything, without API restrictions.

Well, my topic received a post. Looks like the people that are up on Project Offset/Larrabee news aren't sure. The developers haven't been very clear on this so I guess there's hope.

Maybe Nvidia/ATI cards could one day support software rendering :D Maybe we could play Project Offset on those cards then :D

I have some vague memories of the game not using DX or OGL when the first info appeared...

But if it did, scrapping the DX renderer would be a pretty dickish move from Intel. Everybody hated Crysis for locking the Very High options under XP. Imagine what would happen if a game that was running on a 6800 at that amazing quality a few years ago would be Larrabee exclusive.

Does the site run like ass for everyone? It was bad enough this morning, but now I feel like in 1996.

Well, looks like no one but the developers knows anymore than we do. But, there's still hope that one day all the graphics card providers will support software rendering to the extent of the Larrabee. Of course, that doesn't mean the engine will support that but, still, that seems to be the only hope for me at the moment if this is true.

My topic's getting some replies if you're interested.
