Halo 3, The Orange Box, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl have more content than ANY PS3 exclusive released or announced.
All three games fit on one DVD9 each.

sure, you can compress.. but a Blu ray disc can hold more uncompressed data....
There will come a time THIS gen when a DVD 9 just isn't enough anymore.. it's only logicall.. (just like there will come a time when a blu ray disc is not enough anymore)

Erm...blue dragon/ lost odesy(or something like that)....a and assassin's creed said recently they have problems, fitting the game into a 8-9 gbs DVD.
DVD9 is fine this gen.
PS3 only uses higher capacity media because...
A. Sony wants to win the movie market.
B. Cell sucks at decompressing data.
Simple.
Next gen however, we will need a bigger medium then DVD9.
It may not be needed right now, but i dont thin ANY PS3 owners will complain that having more space is a bad thing.
And dont forget tha Halo 3 had to have its graphics downscaled from what was originally expected, SSBB isnt out yet, and the orange box will be on PS3
DVD9 is fine this genTruth_Hurts_UBut Bluray is better... People in general are acting like DVD9 is better. >_>

Like I said we will need a bigger storage medium next gen.
People act like you need BR this gen.
Why would you pay extra money to not have to switch disks, thats all blu-ray does, saves time not the console.:)sure, you can compress.. but a Blu ray disc can hold more uncompressed data....

Just because great games can fit on a DVD9 doesn't mean blu-ray is useless. I don't know how many developers have said they're trying to make their games fit on the disc or whatnot. Most recently Ubisoft. So for developers it obviously is of some importance.
I guess we who play the games ultimately won't notice much of a difference though. Due to memory constrictions, only so many of that huge amount of textures or whatever can be loaded at any one time. Theoretically, games can be longer and feature more locations, but heh, not so much in practice. At least not yet. So when a developer brags about how their game uses 22GB of space I don't really give a ****. So far I've seen zero PS3 games that just couldn't be done on a DVD9. What with Mass Effect being huge, having lots of distinct planets, looking fantastic and featuring tons of dialog, I'm not convinced blu-ray will ever be required.
To sum up, it's helpful for developers, but as a gamer I'm yet to see a game which thanks to blu-ray is noticeably superior to a game on DVD9. Perhaps Resistance features more texture variety or something, but is that something you notice? The one thing blu-ray brings that can be appreciated though, is the multiple languagetracks. Playing Heavenly Sword in French or something or other is great.
The Orange Box takes up 13GB installed.None of those would take up alot.

I don't agree that blu-ray isa gimmick (as it's the next step up from DVD, which wasn't a gimmick either), but it's certainly not necessary right now. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey use multiple discs because of CGI, and Assassin's Creed is filling up the DVD9s because the devs are trying to put 5 audio tracks on the same disc. Honestly, I'm fairly tired of CGI (I prefer in-game cutscenes for the most part), and I only need one audio track (maybe two if the English dub sucks), so I'm not too concerned about the status of gaming on DVDs.
However, next generation we'll certainly need blu-ray or something like it...
Assassin's Creed
Grand Theft Auto 4
ID's Rage
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
L.A. Noire
Project Gotham Racing 4
Unreal Tournament 3

I don't have 100,000 links on my computer... I have my e-mail, GS, Amazon and 2 other sites linked. Sorry for not being a link freak.
However I will give you a few hints like Cell in TV's and PPE to get your started on your search.
I read several times that the Cell was designed for TV's... That it is extremely good at handling video and audio... But when it came to tasks like a computer it simply can't beat it. The PPE is underpowered for the general processing need to do tasks like a computer. This is where I read a few times about it not decompressing files at a fast rate.
Didn't TES:Oblivion prove it?zsc4
That game had recycling out the butt dude. Same songs, texgtures, models, sounds, eh, good game though.

C. Most of Sonys "big" games are 90 percent High Definition cut screens ( which takes up a lot of disc space ), and 10 percent game play.

They said they didn't have enough space because they're trying to fit 5 languages onto the dsic :|
But Blu-Ray's space is an advantage, but it isn't needed, it's a luxury.

Except the read speeds on the ps3 are too slow to fully exploit bluray.

AC was because they were putting 5 languages on the disc but they did fit it all on to a single disc. As for BD and LO well when a game has hour apon hour of cgi cut sceens that will take up a massive amount of disc space. The TC didn't own anyone with this thread though because even though BR is not needed to play games the extra space is nice to have. A good example would be the upcoming UT that has more maps on the ps3 version then the 360 version. I don't need a lot of things that I have but guess what just because I don't need them doesn't mean it's not nice to have. Its not a stupid gimmick, its not the standard yet, and not absoutley essential yet. There was a time when 4 Mb or ram was fine in a PC, at that time 2 Gb would have been considered a gimmick, but it is now normal. The same is with BR, and in time it will be neccessary. 4 Meg or ram in a PC is now useless and one day DVD's wil be just as useless for gaming (just like CD's).
Sony have always said they are looking at the future with BR, so this thread is pointless because what Sony says is true, and any dumb ass can see that (not calling anyone, before the PC wagon gets going).
Fanboyism is negative, and negativity leads nowhere.

No it won't it will be just on 2 or 3 DVD's Just like FF7 RE4 and many other alltime greats and those games did not seem to get hurt by that?
