As far as this threads go, this is nothing new. MS just released new tools (XDK, Complier, and D3D update) for the 360, and was already talking about how more games in the future are going to use the CPU more instead of the GPU. Cause as i've said before, even if fanboys don't wanna hear it...Xenon can push some nice vertex/FP numbers itself.

a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo will beat a 3.2 ghz pentium 4 because it does more work per clock .

Cell can handle shaders very poorly < /a.i./physics

Shhhh dont talk technically good about the 360 didn't you know that only teh cell and teh RSX are allowed to discuss here?

no he can. the xenon is an awesome chip too. i just here to dhow how powerful the cell is because the 360 fans say it was a waste of time and money because they can't use it for gaming. so i provided a link showing they are using it for gaming.

the 360 is no slouch it can keep up to the ps 3. it just that the ps 3 is stronger when used correctly.

But it's very poor at it it needs a bunch of cell processors just to handle it decently.

ps3's original design was to have 2 cell processors one for main processing and other graphics, but sony found out cell sucks at graphics, so they rushed to nvidia and they threw a downgraded 7900 gt chip in ps3.

ROFL no, again you don't understand. Cell may be able to do "GPU" like functions, but it is not the frame buffer...nor does it have anything to do with it. Hypothetically even if it did, the EDRAM has WAY more bandwidth for the stuff then any of cell's links. It's moot though, because they are used for two completely different things.

Alos what your discribing is called "threading" (you know, the whole point of mulit-core cpu's) something the 360 can do just as much, difference being 360's thread's aren't as specialised, and aren't linked in the same way.

I won't disagree, Cell is a caluculation monster....and is a stronger overall CPU then Xenon. I'm just mearly stating that developers really haven't used Xenon in conjuntion with Xenos until recently or in the near future.

doesn't the link above proved they found ways to use the cell for graphics. it not downgraded it just made for a console not a pc. resurch that next please. nvidia confirmed this as well.

gddr3 at 815 mhz 128 bit offers 26.1 gb bandwidth

XDR at 3200 mhz 64 bit offers 25.6

gddr3 does more work per clock than xdr.

because that really was sony's first idea, to have two cell's. RSX was a late min change. A 7800GTX with half it's ROPS/bandiwdth cut + added turbocache. Cell is great at assisting the GPU, but it would never perform like a real GPU in a real world gaming situation by itself.

gddr3 at 815 mhz 128 bit offers 26.1 gb bandwidth

XDR at 3200 mhz 64 bit offers 25.6

gddr3 does more work per clock than xdr.

so which system has gddr3 and which system does xdr.

im confused because sony/gamespot/ign all said that the ram in the ps 3 is faster clock speed but there split up into 2 differant function rams. i will go look it up.

john carmack made the graphics engine to my favorite games ever quake 1 quake 2 and quake 3

those were very impressive for the time

Did you know source engine aka orange box on ps3 uses the quake 1 engine? it uses code from it.

valve licensed the quake 1 engine from john carmack and used to graphics code to make the source engine.

because that really was sony's first idea, to have two cell's. RSX was a late min change. A 7800GTX with half it's ROPS/bandiwdth cut + added turbocache. Cell is great at assisting the GPU, but it would never perform like a real GPU in a real world gaming situation by itself.

now im confused again is the gpu so much weaker than the 360's that even with the cell assisting it it still can't keep up. my brain hurts. i just wondering now that they figued a way to use the cell to do function to free up the gpu doesn't this make the gpu stronger than the 360 or is there sometthing that helps the 360 gpu as well. again like i said before the 360 is very powerful and no slouch but if the ps 3 is used correctly using the cell for the gpu and cpu it will be more powerful.

john carmack graphics engine god

the makers of half life used the quake 1 engine to make half life 1# and used code from quake 1 engine to make their own graphics engine the source engine for half life 2.

but again EA did that game not valve so this is not proof of anything we get the whole the 360 is like a pc when making games so of course a pc coded engine would work better on the 360 than the ps 3.

im old been playing first person shooters since they have been invented.

you people dont seem to get john carmack, this guy made the first fully 3D graphics engine for a first person shooter.

again what do think the cell does. the same as your edram. if you look up the diagram of the inside the ps 3 you will see thecell is connected to ram/rsxchip/gpu/cpu meaning the cell can be used to take the load of all of them.

so again ps 3 cpu/gpu/ram/ all are parallel to the cell.

Ahh, why do poeple in system wars try to talk tech when they have no clue.

further more, you cannot add the 512+10 from the EDRAM, because the EDRAM is nothing to do with textures.

Which brings me to my next point, Cell and the EDRAM are NOTHING alike. The EDRAM is purely the Frame Buffer (which Xenos ROPs are tied to which is why it's so damn efficent), and handles most if not all frame buffer effects. This helps is save a tremendous amount of bandwidth, because frame buffer effects (IE: alpha blending, HDR, Stencil/volume effects, etc) are traditionally the most resource hogs of the graphics subsystem.

As far as this threads go, this is nothing new. MS just released new tools (XDK, Complier, and D3D update) for the 360, and was already talking about how more games in the future are going to use the CPU more instead of the GPU. Cause as i've said before, even if fanboys don't wanna hear it...Xenon can push some nice vertex/FP numbers itself.

When did i say edram helps with textures?

i said edram can help with graphics like high dynamic range lighting and producing shadows and other stuff.

you just named what the cell does for the ps 3 and there alot more there than 10 edram. we have 6 sprees free that run together. one spree used for all the lighting another for animation another for shadows another one for textures ect. wich the ycan do because the sprees all run together. this nauthy dog in the link i gave you pritty much summed up of what the cell can do with the edge tool.

No need to ask for images of an exlusive. This isn't an argument about who has the prettiest exclusive games. I'm not saying that there is a mult-plat out there that looks better on the 360 and looks better than Uncharted, but just pointing out that your request for a images from a 360 exclusive to compare against a Sony exclusive is misplaced. All that you should really need for proof is an image of a 360 game that looks better, regardless of whether it is exlusive or multiplat.

While I am sure the highly clocked vector processing units they have strapped to Cell will eventually enable the PS3 to do what 360 cannot; it is majorly let down by the rest of the system not quite being at the same level.

Oh sure you can use Cell for something such as additional physics work like interactive objects; but then you need the ram to hold the additional physics calculations and game assets, the GPU power to push the additional polys and shaders on screen, the vram to texture and normal map all the additional objects and so on.

The point is Cell enables the PS3 to do more but the rest of the system prevents it from doing so. It doesn't have more memory or GPU power than 360, which is going to severally limit what they can do with Cell.

It is like if you had a 8800GTX with 128mb vram, it has all that processing power but the memory allowance prevents it from fully taking advantage of it.

Kameo has terrible graphics compared to the new games out there and the textures in that game are outdated. Even Ratchet and Clank Future beats it. So dont post those pics. Gears 2 looks better though so i give you credit for that.

you should have given a better pic.. that's not really good. water looks good but the jet ski and character models in that one are meh.
