Squaresoft were on fire back in the N64 and Ps1 era one hit after another always same with the SNES pretty much Square Enix are now hit and miss a lot.
I prefer the PS2 era in most cases. As for Square-Soft and the Square-Enix era they're pretty much the same both hit and misses often time. Except for a few things though Square-Soft didn't make so many darn FF spin offs and Enix didn't so many DQ & DW spin offs. (Also Squre-Enix hasn't developed anything in the likes of XenoGears, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics and PE 1 & 2 IMO
No, the PS2 had lots more better games IMO.
PS2 = One of the Best Consoles of all time.
No again. It's a fact that the console had sold alot more than the competition and had a good / decent libary and SOMETIMES made amazing games I.E MGS 2 and ICO.
But clearly the Xbox / Gamecube defined the generation and set the standard future generations I.E Halo / Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden / Ninja Gaiden Black, Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 4, Forza, Super Smash Bros Melee, Zelda: Wind Waker, Stars Wars Knights of the old Republic upon many others.
PS2 was clear winner in console sales, that can't be debated.
Clear winner in making quality games?
No, not at all.
not at all? so god of war, shadow of colosus, ssx, mgs, ffx,xii etc. persona, and many other games are not quality? For its time, yes. Which is why I always strain to put the PS2 in front of the PS for best overall library. The PS2 surely has more quality games, but for its time the PS just had an immense level of quality in its games. Squaresoft being at the forefront.
[QUOTE="tOtalPWNaAe"][QUOTE="Synthetic_NinJI"] The 360 also gets "all those sequels" :lol:Synthetic_NinJIonly DMC and TS were multiplats this gen and they aren't that great>_> Final Fantasy, Tekken, Virtua Fighter among others :| Lets stay on topic.
I bet the XIII port will be just wonderful.
I wonder if it will be as good as the VXIII port? Oh wait. No thats PS3 exclusive.

I think this was the most sublime period of gaming.

Some better games:
I doubt any of those are better than xenogears.
I doubt any of those are better than xenogearshakanakumonoAny one of those are lightyears better than Xenogears. Heck, Fallout alone could curb stomp it. Planescape would leave it a smoldering pile of ash.

Yeah, because xenogears is just your standard mediocre RPG from the evil squaresoft villains who are conspiring to ruin gaming right?
Xenogears is the best RPG I've ever played. But regardless of the fact, they're not the same genre so its useless to compare them.

It is a great JRPG, probably one of the better ones ever released. It doesn't matter how dang good of a JRPG it is though, it is like the executor when compared to the Parthenon that is the realm of Planescape, Fallout, and Thief. They smack Xenogears around like a little baby.

Well, I still doubt it. But I've never played any of them so I'll leave it at that.
Well, I still doubt it. But I've never played any of them so I'll leave it at that.hakanakumonoWell then I highly suggest you play them. To put it into perspective, Lost Odyssey's story, as I'm sure you're willing to admit, is relatively good in the JRPG space. Newsflash, Lost Odyssey is a D-rated mediocre rip of Planescape's story. Planescape is to Lost Odyssey as Wagner is to random street performer.

I don't own a 360. In fact, I don't own any of the current consoles. My foot into this generation is both of the handhelds. Still saving up for PS3.
Thanks for letting me know though.

Gxgear
Absolutely loved Xenogears with a fiery passion that consumes my soul.
I have a feeling that if I need any game recommendations, I should be going to you.
Major Xenogears fanboy and a just an all around fan of what Square did on the Playstation... too bad they're nowhere near as good now.
EDIT: To Vandal, haven't played Planescape/Daggerfall, but I've played both Fallouts and I'd have to disagree with either of them being better than Xenogears. They have an awesome sense of humor, but above and beyond that they just really didn't leave as much as an impact as Xenogears did. =/

LO could of been a great JRPG except for that lame main villian and the story falls flat on its face after disc 1 IMO. Off topic XenoGears (PSX) and PlaneScape Tormnet are the best RPG's to ever exists nothing can top those two titles.
but his point still stands, if DMC never existed, than Ninja Gaiden wouldnt have exist neither. NG was influenced by DMC.:roll:Devil May Cry was released 3 year prior to Ninja Gaiden (the Xbox version, not the NES...duh:P) and whether you'll admit to it or not was a major influence on it. Not that I care for numbers, but DMC got 95% on Metacritics and NG got 91%. Whether you think it was the best game last gen is your opinion. TimeSplitters was far greater than Halo, in my opinion. The style, the controls, the humour, it had them all down to a T. TimeSplitters 2 has always been my favourite console shooter. Halo, I felt, did nothing new except for maybe that regenerating health, but in all honesty I hate that. Silent Hill 2 may have been ported to the Xbox, but Silent Hill 3 didn't. As far as the "gold standard" for the industry, I can't say I see a lot of that from any singular console. Those are down to the developers themselves, not the consoles. I can't declare that the PC is the unarguable king of all systems simply because Monkey Island 2 is on it.Synthetic_NinJI
Devil may Cry was released proir to any console / competition and was the first of the "Over-The-Top" action-adventure title of the generation.
Devil May Cry 2 scored a 68 and was considered one of the "Worst Sequels Ever Made" and won "The Most Dissappointing Game of 2003" right here on spot.
Devil May 3 was released two years later and scored 84, which is a flop considering the former first title, and later released a Special Edition which scored a 87 Good Job DMC3, two tries and still couldn't hit the mark.
Ninja Gaiden was released a YEAR BEFORE DMC3 and won "Best Action Adventure Game" and "Game of the Year" among various Websites, Magizines, Critiics ETC including Gamespot which says "one of the best most challenging action adventure games ever made" and IGNs "sets a new standard for third-person action games in terms of length, depth, speed, and gore" and enter Gamespots "Hall Of Fame"
You intentionnaly ignored Ninja Gaiden Black which scored 94 on Metacritics which is 10 points better than the latest DMC 3 and 1 point off from the original DMC.
Also, I'll take Team Ninja at their word when if they ever admit that DMC inspired Ninja Gaiden.
So I refute "GOLD STANDARD SET" Silent Hill 2 was better than all of the Silent Hills and says right here on gamespot BEST ON XBOX.
I can care less about Timesplitters, you not understanding what a "STANDARD" means.
