I'm amazed that Amazon Luna is in front of "best deal in gaming" Gamepass service. Stadia also with waaaay smaller userbase is neck and neck with "best deal in gaming" Gamepass service. Odd.

https://augustafreepress.com/ps-plus-most-popular-gaming-service-in-the-us-with-41-reach/

According to a recent survey from Statista, Sony’s subscription service PS Plus is the most popular among US viewers. The survey, conducted in May, asked 1099 US video game subscribers whether they have spent money on various gaming subscription services during the past year.

41% of those surveyed said they had paid for PS Plus/PS Now. The second spot is occupied by Amazon Prime Gaming/Amazon Luna. 39% of gamers said they had used Amazon services during the past year. Luna is a cloud-based gaming service provided by Amazon in the United States. It was launched to the general public in 2021.

Microsoft is in the third spot for its collection of services such as Xbox/PC Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. 37% of gamers surveyed said they had used one or more of these services during the past year. In the fourth spot, Google Play Pass was also used by 37% of the survey base during the past year.

Netflix Games completes the top five with a 33% reach among video game subscribers. Nintendo Switch Online is the least used service among services offered by three major console companies. The Nintendo service has a reach of only 32%.

So, despite having less than half the userbase GamePass is only 4% less than combining of PS+ and the rebranded/defunct PSNow?😂🤣

I'm surprised that Amazon has such a large user base for its streaming service. They are another big tech company that wants a piece of the pie, but they haven't made a name for themselves like Sony or MS has

If sampled properly, then yes, it absolutely is. In most cases, studies like this will do the most basic part and gather data properly.

lol! I just saw this is Statistica, lol. And only 1099 users. This is the same site that cows said wasn't accurate because they have Xbox 360 listed as 100.6 million sold worldwide.

Lmao…We’re comparing Amazon Prime and merged PSNow and PSPlus figures with GP? I see you cunningly left out their own disclaimer….

“It must be noted that Sony’s subscription services underwent significant restructuring in May. Before June, Sony provided two subscription services: PS Plus and PS Now. During the restructuring in June, Sony decided to merge two services and introduced the new PS Plus with three different tiers. The impact of this change is not visible in the survey. However, it is very likely to have provided a boost to PS Plus’ reach among US gamers.”

Sad, sad Mowgly.

That reminds me, I need to download some ps plus stuff for August. It actually has a decent selection. I hear they're giving away Tony hawk 1 and 2.

Honestly, by the time AB is completed, GP will be far ahead of the field. It's not surprising that sony is trying to pull some moves before GP completely dominates the field even with casuals.

Actually if it just included Amazon Prime, then it would easily be number 1 since there are more Prime subscribers than all of those. The survey likely contained a question on whether or not people have used the service to play games, where even playing one game would count I suppose.

Additionally, it was clearly randomly sampled, which deals with all of the mathematically illiterate commentary in this thread about sample size. Once upon a time, I studied statistics and learned how to overcome basic response biases. I have no doubt that the people conducting this survey are more apt than a college undergrad.

Do you get dizzy from always spinning shit? Isn't Gamepass available on phones and PC? Last time I checked Sony doesn't have that userbase. Looks like you need to think before opening your mouth.

@Pedro: You said PS Plus has a higher potential userbase than Gamepass. Plus not having smartphone or PC users says it doesn't. I see you'll just say anything for the lulz now. I see why you're not taken seriously here. You wouldn't know a fact if it stayed in the basement with you.

That is wild, and it was only $29.99. I guess maybe that is a lot for a 5 hour game? But I felt it was worth it. I like supporting the developers.

It's not that shocking. Nintendo has an interesting strategy to grow the NSO subs. Nintendo just launches content that requires NSO. Its the old school, "anti-consumer" way of doing things, but it seems to be working better than their previous offerings. Nintendo is standing behind their strength, their software. No freebies or promos. Just software pushing a service...

Kind of head scratching since last year Xbox Live crossed over 100 million active users and PS Plus wasn't even at half that. Not to mention they got up to around 20 million Game Pass subscribers when PS Now only had a small fraction of that. And given the US market is Microsoft's strongest, I don't see how it could be case Sony has a stronger subscription base in the US than Xbox.

That aside suggesting services like Amazon Prime and Netflix have as large of a presence as it suggests is entirely circumstantial. Netflix offers some games and Amazon too but people primarily use those services for things like two day shipping and to Stream Prime TV series and movies, access to music and e-books etc, food delivery etc. Even to suggest a Google Stadia has a reach with one fifth of US gamers is downright blasphemous. Why? Is their store integrated with Google Play and YouTube purchases?

@valgaav_219: That's plenty of people, I've done survey's like this before and once you start doing survey's in the thousands of people the data will typically just repeat itself and you don't get data that skews any one way.

It's crazy expensive and time consuming to do surveys, one or two thousand is generally the sweet spot.

Yep - and as long as the data is gathered correctly, it's a great representation of large population sizes. It's hilarious seeing people deny this because it doesn't fit with their worldview.

Isn't xbox on pretty much every windows PC now? I know I got 3 months free with my laptop purchase and my daughter got a month free with hers. Not sure how some on here are saying it's a smaller install base than Sonys platform. Plus android and I think iOS supports it or has a way to play gamepass with it. Amazon Prime has over 200 million subscribers(worldwide), so these numbers don't reflect just having Prime.

It is the best deal in gaming. When I download a game, it's a local install.
XBOX has more readily available games on it than PS5. Prove me wrong.

Oh, the poor and brainwashed Xbox fan. LOL

How many games GP has on Xbox? Around 400. LOL

Around 500 games on PS+ Premium on PS5 are downloadable. PS3 games only can be streamed (around 400 of them) . Xbox has more readily available games your ass, Phil Spencers ass, balls and what not

The butthurt by cows is real.

From the article: “It must be noted that Sony’s subscription services underwent significant restructuring in May. Before June, Sony provided two subscription services: PS Plus and PS Now. During the restructuring in June, Sony decided to merge two services and introduced the new PS Plus with three different tiers. The impact of this change is not visible in the survey."

Cows now have to rely on slanted surveys...
