Teh Wii HD am arrive?
The PS Wand won't bring anything new to the table and will effectively make the PS3 a cell-powered Wii HD.
There is nothing that the PS Wand could do that would not be easily replicated on the Wii Motion Plus.

Don't know if you're serious, but this is the whole point to begin with.
It's a peripheral for the system, so widespread implementation is unlikely.
Wii Motion+ is also a peripheral, but it's giving Sheep something they've wanted since the inception of the Wii, which is 1:1 controls.
The Wii is NOT getting 1:1 controls; I don't know where the Hell you got that from. Adding extra gyroscopes is never going to fix the disaster that is the IR control. Also, the PS3's motion controls rely on the Eye, which can do most of what Natal can do.OrwellJames
Meh, I don't really follow the Wii's peripheral add-ons and capabilities all that closely.
I may be wrong, but then again, i'm not too fussed.
Try chilling out :|

Yes because Microsoft can patent visual recognition software (???). I should warn you I'm a law student and I am not afraid to bore you to death on this issue.

From what I've gathered listening to the press conference, the Sony motion controller seems to be a sort of dumbed down version of Natal, where the camera senses the tracking ball (I assume it emits an IR), rather than your entire body. So it's not so much a wii ripoff (Wii has the IR light emitted from the sensor bar and the wiimote itself is the sensor).
Do you have any idea what you are talking about?
GrumpyWalrus
Hell, do you? Do be ever so serious, becauseit's serious business onthe internet :|
It's just a half-serious joke thread, relax.
Can no one use their eyes? Ps Ball-on-a-stick thing is exactly like wii motion plus. I don't see how you guys don't see that WiiM+ isn't 1:1. How the data is collected doesn't matter but how it is played does.

Hopefully the PS Wand improves further on the PS3, a 1:1 sword fighting game (Star Wars anyone?) on a system with that much power would be great.
You see, this is something I would'nt want. People beg for 1:1 Star Wars games without realizing what they'll be getting. I'm no Jedi. I have no Jedi skills. Do any of you? I only know basic swordfighting strategies. Putting 1:1 lightsaber controls will simply dumb the enemies down to average human level, even on a hard difficulty. Imagine you see your future Sith oppent chopping fools up with amazing skills in a cutscene and when you fight him he just comes with basic slashes from the left and right..... lame confirmed. The Revenge of the Sith game had great lightsaber dueling. For some swordfighting games buttons are simply better (ex: Ninja Gaiden).i wouldnt use any of the 3 but the ps wand looks like it works the bestbayareahuslaYeah they just copied Nintendo and did it better. NATAL is the one that will be a falure in the gaming market, it has no use in gaming. It will be an amazing interface once it is done though.
Don't think this is done on the wii
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPENA1Bpm68
Or this, the linkis of the demo at E3, does the wii motion plus detect and move you in a 3d space? If there is a wii game that allows you as a gamer to move around in a 3d space with just the movement of the num chuck please post a video link. Think people are missing the point of the ps3 wand when its being used with the ps3 camera. I'm pretty sure the dual shock 3 as of right now is pretty much what wii has, but with the inclusion of the ps3 camera it opens up alot of doors in what can be done with in a game. The ps3 wand has alot more featuresthan just static player movement when paired with the ps3 camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th8_zKa0DKk
Nothing new to the table? Nothing like a full-motion camera and much higher quality visuals along with much greater physics calculating abilities?
If this is integrated properly and used well, it could easily destroy what the Wii has to offer.

I don't think that will happen since the PS Eye is already on the market and is being implemented in games like Eye of Judgment, Eye Pet, etc. The wand is also already out in PS dev kits and releasing next spring.I think it looks a lot better that the Wiimote buuut its a blatebt copy of Nintendo and can you even walk or move your character with the Sonywand? Looks fun for minigames...like the Wii...hmmMickeyTheNinjaSony demoed hardcore gaming applications with the wand at their conference. You can move along with it and the character on screen will move exactly the same (forward, back, strafe, crouch). They also talked about buttons on the wand because motion alone won't be enough to fully control advanced games. It's really impressive I think.
If this is integrated properly and used well, it could easily destroy what the Wii has to offer.foxhound_foxBut it won't be, and you know it. It's much too far into the PS3's lifespan to bring about something that fundamentally changes it. Nobody is going to make games for it until it has a large enough install base to justify alienating the existing PS3 base, and nobody is going to buy it until there are enough games. This is the e-Reader or SEGA CD all over again. Announcing new hardware that the user must purchase is not the way to increase the install base. This is a revolution, while the Wii MotionPlus is simply and EVOLUTION of what the Wii already does.
I don't really see all these 'great games' for the PS3 wand actually happening. If a company wanted to make a motion game, they'd use the Wii, not the product with smaller install base, and an even smaller install base that that for the specific product they want to use.TylendalYeah, but there is a potential market for it on PS3. Sony is their own greatest supporter and they'll create experiences/ games and likely bundle the Wand + Eye in various SKUs. It is reported that its in the hands 3rd parties too.

There will be a demographic for this I'm sure. There's gonna be a co-existence of the two. Hell, even I'm intrigued by the technology and potential application.

firstly wm+ is out today 1 point
wand is a proto type release some day...
wm+ is has been played and tested by people who do not work for sony 1 point
the wand has been shown at e3 where no one got to test it just some guy who could faked the whole thing
analog stick? 1 point wii
no analog stick
i mean it could still be good though but i doubt man people will want to buy a whole new set of controllers
oh thought of another one
wii controller will be one thing so every thing is standard
wand is going to have to compete with normal controller until the install base grows no devs are gonna make anything for it
i think all it comes down to software, i think its pretty absurd to argue that one technology is better than the other, although from the impressions from the e3 demonstration the sony solution does seem more acurate than the wii M+ demonstration but that could be due to various reasons.
Really all it comes down to is software, and the wii has yet to prove to be truly innovative, i wowuld love to be proven wrong so i can dust off my wii, but when zelda can't provide a fruitful experience what can?

Sure, Sony might, but the third parties still won't be much help. Wii. 50 million owners. PS3 23 million owners, maybe a quarter of which, and that's being optimistic, will have the hardware for such games.

Exactly. I'm not gonna sit here and say that sony's ball-on-a-stick is doomed from the beginning, but that's a whole lot of "if's". Sony has a hell of a up-hill battle ahead of them if they want this thing to be developed by any third parties at all or be anything besides an eye-toy like distraction.
The technology is better, but motion controls aren't going to move forward the industry so it's pointless.
hakanakumono
Why not? Sticking with the dual analogue controller and simply upgrading console's power won't do anything either. Motion controls are the next step towards the big goal of gaming - virtual reality.

How many games support the Balance Board? Better yet, how many support it well?
Its not going to fundamentally change anything. The point is to add more options for developers. The Wii has already proven that not all game types allow for motion controls. Sony giving developers the option to integrate it into their games, and giving them the technology to do it, will be a futher enhancment to the platform.
And what's stopping Wii developers from coming over to the PS3 and saying, "hey, we know how to work with motion controls, lets try our ideas here as well."
If Sony can't integrate motion controls now, then Nintendo won't be able to make this new Vitality Censor work. And wouldn't the balance board have flopped as well?
Having motion controls on the PS3 gives developers far more working room for their games. They are not limited by the Wii's hardware anymore. They will be able to come up with some amazing concepts, and not be worried about sacrificing other aspects to make up for the lack of hardware power.foxhound_fox
Introducing new control methods midway through a console's lifespan isn't smart. There's no incentive to develop for it, because doing so alienates the existing base of users (which is already smaller than those of its competitors). Why would anyone develop motion games for PS3 when the Wii has twice the userbase? Hell, even more than twice the userbase, because the motion controls are going to start out with a userbase of zero.
Natal and this new Wand have some cool features, but they should have waited until next generation.

Go back and purchase it? What do you mean, The PS3? You think sony has to make the system adapt to the motion control, by creating a whole new PS3? Yeah if so, it would be hard. for sony to repeat their same customers. But that's too ridiculous to think about. The PS3 already recongnizes* motion. Did we get a brief glimps of the new PS3 in the tech demo at e3 this year?!
