1. PS1(by a slim margin)- though the n64 had mip-mapping and anti-aliasing (wich resulted in those smooth blurred textures{which at the time was considered better than the pixelly blocky ones}in addition to very sharp lines with very little 'teh jaggies') the ps1 pushed more polygons per scene and because of storage medium advantage had a vast diversity in textures..despite the better hardware of the n64 the latter batch of ps1 games looked better for the most part... i do give credit to n64's special effects, though mostly to hide pop-up or limited draw distances it produced the best fog effects of the time and also produced very good chrome effects with good reflections... it also rendered the best water effects of the generation...
2. PS1- Xenogears, SOTN, Resident Evils, FFV7,8,9, FFT, MGS, Suikoden 1 + 2, Vandal Hearts 1 + 2, Vagrant Story, Persona, Toshinden (was unequalled at the time), Lunar: Silver Star Story+Eternal Blue (yes they were sega cd {then Saturn} but PS1 ended up with the superior versions), Chrono Cross, Alundra, GT1+2, Soul Blade, Tobal 2 (some of the best char models of the time), Tekken 2, Wipeout+XL, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Ace Combats.... vs....Mario 64, Zelda:OOT+MM, Golden Eye+Perfect Dark, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, Killer Instinct Gold, Waverace 64, Mario Kart 64. There was simply just alot more to do on the PS1 despite the great gems that were found on the n64.
3. PS1- i really wanted nintendo to be the one but it just didnt turn out that way
4. PS1- better build quaility was n64 (i still remember turning my ps1 on its side to play certain games) but there were SO MANY more games on ps1 and fully orchestrated soundtracks were just not possible on n64
