PS2 was a fad

PS2 was a fad. Casuals bought it because it was a cheap DVD player from Sony that also played games.

Now the fad is over.

Wii is the new fad. Casuals are buying it because they can get drunk and have a laugh with the controls, and it doesn't cost as much to buy as the other console.

The Wii fad will be over by 2011.

-noun a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.

So by your terminology, then the PS2 must be the most successful video game "fad" in the history of digital entertainment. Come on dude. 100,000,000 sysems sold worldwide is NOT a fad. Now the PS3... that's just a flop.

Hardcore followers doesn't mean huge system sales, look at the N64 and Gamecube.

Now the hardcore are either with Ps3 or 360 the two systems that aren't selling aswell as the wii.... For now.

But aren't they selling very well also? The DS has been selling well for more than a year now, is that a fad?

Someone doesn't know the meaning of hardcore again... It's not what games you play but how you play games that makes you hardcore. Example someone who plays in the Pacman Championships... that's hardcore. Spending hours upon hours on VG's is what makes you HC... Not what games you play.

Im sorry but many PlayStation fans gamed before PlayStation existed-whether through Nintendo or Sega or even Atari (or for the minority TurboGrafx)-or computers...just because playstation hasnt been around as long doesnt mean all the playstation fans have as well-heck a TON of them are converted ex-Nintendo players so....pwned.

Funny, that. If anything, the Wii is a hardcore console, because it doesn't have any useless accessories *cough*Blu-Ray*cough*, it just plays games, which I do believe Video Game consoles are primarily used for.

its dedicated to playing games but in all seriousness---one look at the library except for a select few games indicate its a casual console. PS2 was also casual friendly but it had tons of hardcore appealing games. Im not saying Wii is bad (I own one), it's just it's library is mainly aimed towards casuals and non-gamersCronaroth

For now, but this spring things changed and there are more and more "hardcore" friendly games comming out.

um...NES is still well loved and remembered-why else all the NES ports-and there has been a market for NES systems even now. Yes they are out of production but they are FAAAR from forgotten...

Well, whether what he is saying is true or not, most people did not understand the connection he was trying to make. I believe his point is that the Wii and DS aren't any more fad-like than the PS2 was. You're right about the Wii still needing to hold up for a few more years, but at this point, it seems that sales won't slow down for a long time.

Then it was the best and one of the longest fads in history.

Unlike Wii which has only been out for half a year, and the game library sucks. In fact the whole console itself sucks right now.

Cough at least it was not an underdeveloped piece of hardware with poor long-term planning and horrible graphics for it's time.

Yeah if a fad is something that lasts 7 years and is still going. Gamecube and Xbox were the only thing you could consider fads last gen... their sales topped off in like 2004 after like 3 years.
