but fighting back! one inch at a time (see any given sunday). The support for ps3 is rising with the recent price drop and the hit EXCLUSIVE games coming up are boosting sales. ps3 will come in 2nd this round. but can we really put the wii in the catagory of powerful console? adult consoles ps3 wins.Friendlyfire53
got to love the kiddy argument.

Its pretty much guaranteed that anyone that defines consoles as "adult" or "kiddie" is at most 14 years old. Its quite ironic.

PS3 can try to climb out of the grave they dug for themselves (Thanks Ken!) but the 360 is dumping a ton of dirt back on them with Bioshock (seriously, what game has ever scored this high across the board?), Halo 3 (good or not, it'll sell a ton) and Mass Effect, which amazingly despite being shown at the same conventions as Bioshock, managed to win Game of Show at both this years and last years E3.
What exclusives does the PS3 have in store? Heavenly Sword? Lair? Little Big Planet isn't coming that soon, PS3 Home is going to flop hard (who wants second life console edition?) and I'll bet MSG4 is at best a timed exclusive. Every month that passes, the PS3 continues to lose ground and not having ANY established IP's as exclusives this holiday, much less the two front runners for GOTY, means that it's going to get alot darker before the PS3 sees any sunlight.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Paramount, Nickelodeon, MTV and Dreamworks are dropping Blu-Ray support.
Yeah, dont count that kiddy trash wii. I believe it will be a close rase bewteen the 360 and ps3, but I think PS3 will win in the end because MS will abandon the 360 earlyironwarrior2
Why would MS abandon the 360 early? The conditions between Sony and MS are completely different this time. I can understand why they'd want to drop the Xbox asap. It was getting killed by the PS2 and MS wanted to actually own all the hardware it put into the next console, so they rushed (which could be why the box is so faulty) into the next gen with the 360 and forced sony to release the PS3 way ahead of their schedule which is obvious because 1) it was nearly a year late, 2) cost $600 3) didn't have many games out at release and not that many to be released soon after.
MS is in a good position now and NEED to show profitability from their entertainment division and the best way to do that is to keep selling the same console for as long as possible.

I can see where the TC is coming from. I am an avid denouncer of the "Wii = next gen" argument.
(IMO) Wii is in it's own "gen" or "catagory". I don't consider it direct competition for the 360 or PS3.0rin
Regarding your comments on the Wii: spot on. We'll really get to test this theory now that the 360 and Wii are closer in price.

Sir, if this is the only reason you can "see" for being excited about a 360, perhaps you have bigger concerns than just poor vision.

God that was a lame comeback.
Okay, so we can see from sales that the majority of people buying consoles are buying Wii's.
Last gen, what was the ONE game that people wanted the xbox for? What was the ONE game that in the end, casual gamers actually cared about?
Now, personally, there are a couple things on the 360 that I do want, but price and system reliability are keeping me away for awhile. But its not me that has to be impressed, its the video game buying populace.
And unless halo 4 comes out during the 360's lifetime as well, it can never hope to even get close to the Wii's final sales.

I think I lost interest in your retort the moment you mentioned price being a barrier to entry with the 360--perhaps you weren't aware of the recent price drops.
Further, how many AAA games have been released for the Wii? For the 360? How about AA?
I'll save you the suspense...it's not even worth comparing.
And, to top it all off, I believe the 360 is STILL ahead of the Wii in terms of sales. Not that this has anything to do with the relative quality of titles on each system, which you can refer to the aforementioned if you'd care to do some research.
But, I think this is a prime example of the consumate Wii plight--at the end of the day, Wii owners have console sales to boast, and 360 owners have quality software.

The price may not be a problem for SOME people, but its still a problem for ME. Its still more then 100 dollars and therefore out of my current pricerange. I am poor. Its okay though, seeing as I'm still a child and my welfare is taken care of by other people. Its kinda nice actually.
Also, yes, the xbox360 has more good games out then the wii. In fact, it has more bad games too! I'm assuming this has nothing to do with the fact that its been out for a full year before the Wii.
Quality software, but not quality hardware. 33.34% is a mean percentage.

Again, I will try and steer this conversation back to the real issues: games. Afterall, isn't that why we buy consoles--for their ability to play games? The overall number of bad games is indeed larger...of course that speaks to overall developer interest in the 360 platform and which horse develoeprs are placing their bets on so far this generation.
But hey, maybe you get something pretty cool by putting "sales" into the disk slot of your Wii. For me, I'm pretty sure I'd get a blank screen.

Okay ya see you are living in your own little world, where your logic of "This system has the best games, it must sell the best!" is actually falling into place.
I'm living in the real world, and currently the 360 is getting it's ass handed to it daily, weekly, monthly, by the Wii.
I'm not saying it's warranted, but it is happening. It will also continue to happen unless the 360 finds a shiny red ball (read:halo) to distract comsumers.

Again, with the "sales" my friend. You continue to drive home my point. If the only criterion for "better" was all out sales, then I suppose you'd have an argument.
If you want to talk profitability, then again Nintendo wins.
But let's not go so far as to detract anything from the 360--it's still no. 1 and hardly "getting its ass kicked" by the Wii. The PS3 is getting its ass kicked. The Wii and 360 are neck and neck right now. I think we'll be having a very different conversation in a couple of years as well, as the Wii's aging hardware becomes a more obvious blemish.

MTV and Nickelodeon both have a lot of very popular shows. Just because you don't personally like them (and for the most part, neither do I) doesn't mean they don't matter. It all adds up to less and less sales for the PS3, which results in a serious possibility that the PS3 will be discontinued, good games or no. It's not terribly likely, but it's there.

1. The Wii is winning in sales.

Granted the sales of the Wii are "astounding" as you say. But correct me if I'm wrong, aside from excuses---the 360 being out a year before the Wii, its longevity being the catalyst for its extensive AAA / AA game library---what's the end result?
The bottom line, regardless of reasons: The Wii's AA/AAA library is infantecimal with respect to the 360. Realize this simple concept, and you'll see many more reasons to own a 360 than Halo 3, as aspoused in your opening statement.

To saythat one--the only thing exciting people about the 360 is Halo 3---and two---that the 360 is somehow merely a repeat of the Xbox effort---is thumbing your nose at what's happening in the marketplace.
The 360 has made great inroads with Japanese developers in an effort to crack an extremely difficult, Japanese-centric video game consumer base--in short, MS is taking Japan quite a bit more seriously than it ever did with Xbox, whether sales in that region are present or not.
MS has stolen many of Sony's formerly exclusive software franchises right out from underneath it.
I think if you're fair, you admit that MS has really done alot to turn the tables in its favor this go 'round.

Sure. Go mircosoft for creating a system with everything people want.
The Wii is still winning, and all real logic says it won't stop.
I hope that doesn't break your little mircosoft loving heart.
Xbox total sales: 10.43 million.
Wii total sales: 10.41 million.
Just for fun, lets say that the Wii was out at the same time as the 360.
WOW! JEEZ, ITS REALLY CLOSE! THOSE CONSOLES ARE REALLY GOING AT IT HUH? DANG! NO TELLING WHOS GONNA WIN, OR WHO HAS THE UPPER HAND!

Well, the PS3 isn't 5 feet 11 inches in the hole, it isn't in its grave its too busy being far better than the competition IMO. But it does have killer exclusive games.ShmenonPie
What do you use those 60 gigs to store?
[QUOTE="CubeJL"]I'm sorry you can't have a spirited debate without feeling the need to use profanity--I assure you, this argument hasn't roused enough anger, or interest for that matter, to bring me to four letters.
Here was your opening statement:
The only thing I can see making people excited about the 360, would be halo and..
and...
...
and...
wait, this feels familiar. Didn't we do this all before?

Wait, you mean that the 360 has been out twice as long?

That's OK, man. I appreciate your effort...I just don't think you had any valid points. And to top it off, you backed off your original statement, which is enough to tell me that you know its validity was suspect.
I think we both win--we walk away from our keyboards with what we want. I'll have a tremendous library of quality games, and you'll have some impressive sales statistics. I'll let you decide which matters.
With that, goodnight and thanks for the debate.

It's like... a wall. A wall that thinks I'm out to get it and its precious console.
THEN, IT HIT ME.
I'm talking to a fanboy.
Oh, and whoever leaves first loses. So I win. I'm right.
And what I'm I right about?
Wait, do you even remember what point you were trying to make?
The PS3 is doing a lot better than people think.
First the console hasn't been one the market a full year yet and the PS2 is still the number one selling console when all the numbers are added up and it still is being supported while the PS3 get's the games out. And with the small number of games for the PS3 it has still almost sold half the number of consoles as the 360 that had a year+ on the market. By the NASDAQ numbers the PS3 has sold over 5 million as of a few days ago and the 360 has been stuck at about 11 or 12 million for a while now.
[QUOTE="18slot"][QUOTE="Friendlyfire53"]but fighting back! one inch at a time (see any given sunday). The support for ps3 is rising with the recent price drop and the hit EXCLUSIVE games coming up are boosting sales. ps3 will come in 2nd this round. but can we really put the wii in the catagory of powerful console? adult consoles ps3 wins.InfinityTomorro
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Paramount, Nickelodeon, MTV and Dreamworks are dropping Blu-Ray support.
*monotone* Oh no, not MTV and Nickelodeon. what ever will we do without the Hills season 2 and Drake and Josh in HD?

tl:dr version: Blades of Glory, Jackass 1 and 2, Hustle and Flow, Napoleon Dynamite, Election etc.
[QUOTE="ironwarrior2"]Yeah, dont count that kiddy trash wii. I believe it will be a close rase bewteen the 360 and ps3, but I think PS3 will win in the end because MS will abandon the 360 earlymushroomscout89
Oh for lords sake, don't encourage the boy.
For some reason this made me laugh more than I shouldve :?

got to love the kiddy argument.
Its pretty much guaranteed that anyone that defines consoles as "adult" or "kiddie" is at most 14 years old. Its quite ironic.
