PS3 actually didnt sell all that bad its 1st year,

I realize that this board mainly consists of Lemmings, but im gonna give this a shot.

Every NPD report we see the PS3 being outsold by wii and 360, but what is it really being out sold by? 360, a console that has had one year lead to pick up more sales, and the Wii, Which is just kicking the crap out of everything. I believe it was N4G who listed a story where they compared 360's year one sales with PS3s first year sales, and they were very close to each other. THis is why I find it funny when everyone says PS3 is selling Hardware Horribly. If these numbers are any indication, if Both 360 adn PS3 were released day and day, the numbers would almost be a dead even. THis does not expalin PS3s lack of truely Stellar games to play right now, but dont act like their isnt anything to play on it. I recently played both Uncharted and COD 4(yes, I know its on 360 as well) and I absolutely loved it. OF course, I picked up ME today, so I played mostly that. BTW: If anyone has the link to those numbers, please post them. Thanks.

All in all, I sure we can safely say that this fight isnt anywhere near over yet.

I think it's selling just about right for what Sony is offering right now and I think it will sell very well next year if Sony can manage another price drop and market their big games like MGSIV and GT5 well.

THe funny thing is the PS3 has outsold the 360 worldwide this year and the Playstation 3's first year is not much different for the 360's first year in sales.

Which was what this thread was suppose to indicate. But people will keep saying its selling horrible becasue its not 12 million like 360. News flash people, it came out a year before the PS3 I.E more time to get sales.

Fanboy no, I just don't like fanboys are either side. Cows just seem to be the worst with stupid threads like this one and the oens I read all day. Especially by posters like Renegade and out kast.

BTW I play all systems and have no loyalty to MS or Sony.

There are some different factors though.

360 was the successor to a failure. The XBOX. Was in short supply for the first few months(something that was not a problem ever with the PS3).

The PS2 was still the console that kept getting the big games. Final Fantasy 12, Okami, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistance, and a few others. The Gamecube was still getting the support it needed from Nintendo with Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, and Resident Evil.

This idea of 360 had no competition is not true. THe fact is the 360 had to compete with PS2 still and the gamecube(not that it really mattered with the gamecube).

The PS3 on the other hand is the successor to the PS2(a beast which was a successor to the PS1, once again another beast).

THe biggest thing sony can be proud about these sales(which yes they do suck) is that its still on a slighly lower pace than what the 360 was at. It had a ton of bad news over this 1 year stretch. No big Game. 360 on the other hand has had Halo 3(there biggest trump card), Gears of War, and solid AAA titles like Forza 2, Graw, Mass Effect(look its AAA on gamerankings and Look id rather put that here than PDZ) and yet 360 at most might be at 14 million tops this year. WHile PS3 might sneak away with 8-9 million in sales. NOt bad.

I expect it to sell about even again next year. Even though it is getting more games, I think a lot of people bought a Ps3 thinking "hey I can get a cheap blu-ray player that has plastation in its name. And that resistance games looks pretty cool."

Since most of the people who would buy it for a blu-ray and out of loyalty to sony already have one, next year it depends on the games.

it's pretty pathetic given that they'r trying to compete with the wii and catch up to the 360. there are no excuses for third place especially when you were in sonys position last gen

the 360 had shortages until March, not because of insane demand though, they just weren't putting many in stores. the launch of the 360 was a disaster at retail stores like gamestop because they had reserved like 80or systems only to get like 10 on launch day. After one more shipment before Christmas- most stores didn't get any more until March.

It's first year may have been similar to the 360's first year overall, but i'd like to see the numbers for each region. Since Japan has been very reluctant to pick up the 360, it makes me wonder if the 360's presence in the other regions was amazing in its first year compared to the PS3's in the same regions.
