'last place'. I don't care about how much the xbox is selling.
Midnightshade29
I don't either. But the fact is, PS3 is indeed in last place at the moment.
Who gives a crap? As long as they keep bringing out the games and make some money to bring more games and a ps4 and psp2 then its all good, place means squat as long as they turn a profit. And TC ... I understand where you are coming from, as I was the only person I knew back in 1990-91 with a TurboGrafx-16 and CD-rom sound-blaster PC... (it helped being the only 12 year old with a job though to aford such things) Everyone used to love playing it as the games were like nothing they were used to. Problem is in America people root for what is popular whether they are getting ripped off or not, whether the games suck or not... and guess what they are getting ripped off. Paying to play online is just not right.I'm sorry, what? Profit? Sony's game division isn't familiar with...whatever that is.
Also, paying to play online isn't exactly a moral dilemma, it's nothing more than good business sense. No company is obliged to provide things for free. And with MS being 'greedy', it actually manages to bring in a profit from it's gaming division, while Sony's doesn't.
This argument is ridiculous.
It is NOT good for us PS3 owners if the console is "not popular".
Why? GAMES man, games !
The devs need a large install base in order to fund future development of games. Sales do matter when we are talking about the companies that are risking millions of dollars to put a game out on a system that is "not popular".
I think you need to rethink your argument.
[QUOTE="MadVybz"]He's not saying he's unique because he owns a PS3. I actually agree with the guy. Maybe he's phrasing it wrong. For me I like how the 360 is what all the kids and people are crazy about and how only a few people recognize the superiority of the PS3. I mean if you tell people that the PS3 has better exclusives according to the ratings and the facts they won't believe you. This kid's point is that it feels good playing online and not having to worry about getting screamed at by self-hating "my parents don't love me enough," sort of kids. Yes, that's one of the things I actually love about the PS3. It's something that shows standards and promises that it follows up on. Lots of people "Jump IN" to the 360 because its popular. LOL I was talking to this kid who said he wanted to buy a 360 just to play MGS4 I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. And then he was one of those people who thought they knew everything about tech and gaming. He went on arguing with me that MGS4 isnt a PS3 exclusive. TC don't listen to these people. They know exactly what you're trying to say, unless they're-like you said-360 owners. The PS3 doesn't provide uniqueness, just the illusion of it. What I mean is, it provides you with the feeling of owning something that only a few people understand why its something worth owning. It makes you feel like you're part of something...classy. Honestly, I held this philosophy that the 360 and PS3 are the only contenders in the SW but seeing as the PS3 is slowly taking over...it seems like the 360 is just a weaker version of the PS3....Both target basically the same audience. I like to think of the PS3 and 360 as Mercedes BENZ. They have classes for their vehicles... E class, C class and forth. The PS3 is the higher class while the 360 is the lower one... But, the classes appeal to the same audience...those who like mercedes? LOL that was a terrible analogy but you get the point. At you feeling 'special' because the PS3 is in last place.
Sony's gaming division is still selling at a loss. So like it or not, they're gonna keep dropped prices and keep going with the ad campaign. They need the $$$.
And no, you're not unique just because you own a PS3. Millions of other people do. And I have a good feeling as to why this topic got closed in the PS3 forum.

Thank god i have eventually found a fellow fan-wank, insecure, weird, 12 year old boy that agrees with me.
For people who say this should be in the playstaion forum u might want to read the opening post again.
and with the price thing, i wrote this quite a while ago for the playstation forum and for this forum a simply copied and pasted it over so that bit is now unvalid. and maybe unique is the wrong way to put it. maybe more individual or are u just going to abuse me again for using that word?
last place can be a good thing because the company will try harder to please you than let's say a lazy Nintendo who puts out the same titles over and over You're actually right. Sony have been releasing AAA games non stop with titles such as MGS4, UC2, Resistance 2, Little big planet etc etc.[QUOTE="Racer850"]I never knew being last place was a good thing.RJay123

Is this another person kind of agreeing with the statement or just the statement that you commented on?
It's surprising that for the short time that this was open in the playstation forum everybody agreed with my thought (about 8 people)
gareth218
Of course they agreed with you. Rabid PS3 fans will agree with anything no matter how ridicolous it is. Also works the other direction. If the Sony CEO himself came out and publicly stated the PS3 was a failure the rabid fanboys would blame Microsoft and said they paid him off.

i got all the abuse a few pages ago so stop with it only post if it has something to do with the thread
You made a stupid thread so you deserve abuse :P On Topic: what your saying is not true. Sony and the ps3 community dont care about you and owning a console does not make you unique[QUOTE="MadVybz"]No, the PS3 is the superior system, and anyone who owns a 360 is a tosser. At you feeling 'special' because the PS3 is in last place.

Hmm, how could I have missed this? :| But it's been fixed.

Instead of me trying to prove you wrong why don't you try to expand on what your trying to say (i would honestly like to hear your detailedopinion)

I could help.
"PS3 owners are the classiest of the class. The cream of the crop. Unlike those filthy, appalling 360 owners who merely bought it because of the cheaper price tag.
The magical land known as the PSN is only populated by those truly love gaming, and uphold the highest standards respectively. Both PSN users and Sony work together as a wonderful team to keep their gaming sustainable. Did we forget to mention it's superior hardware and exclusives? No sir, of course not. We rub it in the lemmings' faces, and we prove to them with irrefutable facts that our games are better. Why? Because Sony loves us, and we love Sony. What we share, is priceless.
The best part is, since Sony only upholds the highest standards, it will try even harder to please us, not the commoners. It has no toleration for a wider audience, because that will only bring peril to our land. So what if Sony isn't making as much money as MS or making a profit? As long as Sony has us, everything shall be grand."

if you have nothing more to add then Thread failed.you made a stupid claim and couldn't intelligently back it up
im sorry but you were mistaken :(I thought my point was valid and it would get some debate going but instead i just got loads of abuse because my point is just stupid apperntly

I suppose you should go buy a NeoGeo or a SEGA Game Gear because that'll make you feel REAL unique.Brownesque
...lol I did. And a virtual boy, and colecovision.
first i am all for PS3 and i only have a PS3. This post is for PS3 owners but it closed when I put it in the playstation forum. i have got nothing against xbox owners just please dont post unless you are a ps3 owner.
personally I don't want PS3 to be the number one console. i like having less people haveing it as it makes it feel more unique therefore better (in my eyes). People say that if it was the number one console more people would play it and therefore the prices would come down as there is more demand however another thing about the PS3 that i like is that it is the more expensive and people buy it because they can afford it. most people at the moment just opt out because the XBOX is cheaper therefore making the PS3 users more dedicated to Playstation which should make the community better.
Is anybody with me? or am i just wierd.
gareth218
Though it may border on the "elitist" perception I think what you are trying to refer to is that you feel you are in an exclusive membership or group of users.
Away from the mainstream with certain niche games and the community is more 'concentrated' on key titles, online and nuances of the PS3.
I can understand that, and hey yes I agre that the PS3 as a multimedia device has no peers for its flexibility, elegance, sophistication, functionality and aesthetics for a lounge console.
Reason Why I have 2 of them both 60g models with the extra ports, super cd support and full Backwards compatability.
However I'm not under the illusion that such a "premium" product should be mass market, just like you expect a Ferrari to not dominate the general car market.
Sony seems to be putting it's efforts into controlling the living room faster then Microsot so it seems with the use of Blu-ray, Multimedia support and a certain appeal that isn't that different from a lot of stereo, dvd, bluray players and receivers out there.
I can really tell the difference between the 2 consoles as one is from Sony which is primarily a Hardware company with a lot of its experience in the Home living room- Stereos, TVs, vhs, dvd players and and it shows on the PS3.
Microft ..well we all know they know a bit a bout software hey! And it shows on their updates, GUI and all things software on their platform the Xbox360.
I dream of having those two work together Sony creating the hardware, aesthetics and multimedia functionility.
Microsoft doing all the software, Updates and online support like only Microsoft knows how
and Nintendo with over 20 years creating the franchises and working along with talented developers to create exciting and brand new IPs
for the ultimate device...................and Apple coming in to jack up the price somehow.

gareth218
Neither, your just very, very wierd. Seriously imo what you just said is one of the dumbest reasons I've ever heard for the console you own being in a last place being a good thing.
TC, you logic is horribly flawed if you think being in last place is a good thing. I'm a Sega fan, and I never thought that the Saturn and Dreamcast finishing last in their generations was ever a good thing. What did being last and less popular get Sega? A one-way ticket out of the home console business, having to make games for former rivals, and an endless legion of Sega fanboys who attack Sega for a perceived decline in quality after they abandoned the Dreamcast.
Do you honestly think Sega is happy with the outcome of the Saturn and Dreamcast? Hell, I'm pretty damn sure they would love to have finished better in those generations so they could still be making home consoles. I'm sure they would take first place if it meant they still controlled Europe like they did in the Master System and Mega Drive days.
I would have loved to have seen Sega crush Sony and keep Microsoft from ever entering the market.I loved Sega, and I would been happy to see them take first place and finish above their rivals.
Last place and less popular is never a good thing. Do you think it would fly for a fan of sports team to be happy with a losing season, falling ticket sales, and the threat of relocation? Last place and less popular normally mean losses and the threat of something going under.
I'll tell you one thing, I would have been happy to have seen Sega finish in first place and have the most popular systems if it meant I could still play Sega consoles. All less popular and last place got Sega was a position as a third-party and the lingering belief from fans and the media that they are a shell of their former selves.
The modern Sega does not carry the same level of respect or fandom that the Sega from the 16-bit or Dreamcast era did.
If you're happy with the same fate maybe befalling Sony, than by all means, cling to the belief that last place and less popularity is a good thing.
After all, we all saw how well it worked for Sega and Atari.
say if the console was a car. you would want less people to have it. And think of ferrari or audi, not the most popular cars but they are some of the most popular.
With the saga and dreamcast consoles, a lot less people owned them, but now were talking millions of people owning the consoles, sony are still making loads of money even though they are in last place.
