I personally feel that the nintendo 64 still holds that crown, followed by PS1 and then SNES and Genesis tied for 3rd.

The PS2 and PS1 dominated the PS3 in every way. Along with SNES and possible the N64. There is no way its the best console ever.

i agree, N64 is the best console ever, even if it dose get an nostalgia boost, the multiplayer is still one of the best.

this gen they set all cards on online, but they forget its funnyer to play with friends then random swearing people online

Well, it is the best console of all time in terms of features and performance but in terms of games it isn't. In 5 or 10 years that might be a lot different.

EDIT: My PS3 can play (and upscale) all ps2 and ps1 games so I guess it could be conidered the best console ever.

absolutely not. No system this gen will go down as the best console in history, or even top 3 for that matter. There would have to be something drastic over the next couple years for that to happen. The wii will go down as one of the more successful and innovative but certaintly not the best. The 360 is better than the og XBOX but it's not better tha top systems from previous generations. And for the PS3, it's not better than the ps1 or ps2, so by that theory alone, there is no way it could be number 1

Why are people saying it is the worst ever, that goes to the wii. Sure it has its good games, but not enough to balance the crap that comes to it. Atleast the PS2 could balance the crap to good games decently.

At least wii have more variety in games than the FPS. Oh yeah the Wii's controls for a FPS made the dual analog obselete! oh man

Ya...no. PS2 holds that title. Over 140 million sold, STILL selling, and great games.

Throw away all the bad consoles from history that had absolutely no financial support, or developer support, and what you're left with is all the most popular gaming consoles of all time. Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, Xbox, and the like.

Virtual Boy, PSP, and Atari Jaguar being the worst of all these big names, and everything else being better than the PS3.

PS3 doesn't have all the best games, or a library that stands up to the greatest consoles (N64, SNES, and Dreamcast)

Edit: Actually the Atari 5200 sucked ass too, and so did the 7800, but Atari might be too old to compare really.

Considering the impressive hardware, probably.
