[QUOTE="waltefmoney"]

[QUOTE="cainetao11"]Are there even that many 3rd party exclusives this gen? FFV13, like any FF game for me is a no buy, never play as it doesn't interest me. But, this doesn't surprise me. Impossible is temporary.lundy86_4

inFamous 2, Resistance 3, Yakuza 4, Sly 4,Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, Twisted Metal to name a few.

inFamous 2, Resistance 3, Sly 4, All-4-One, and Twisted Metal are all 2nd-party. All are published by Sony and thus they would not be lost due to piracy :P

And Yakuza series sells mostly on Japan, so there's no point marketing to the 10 people that have an x360 there because they also have a ps3.

The odds of Final Fantasy Versus XIII going multiplatform are quite high. In fact, Tetsuya Nomura has stated that it's entirely up to management to have it ported, despite him currently working only on the PS3 version right now.

The fact is guys

PS3 exclusives allready sell poorly (not all of them), now they will be getting pirated aswell, so about that 10 year life cycle... hopefully PS4 does come out very soon, consoles are very out of date compared to PC's

and dont say Piracy means nothing, just look at PSP and PC

Ok, Uncharted, KZ,resistance, GoW, inFamous don't hit Halo sales numbers, but that doesn't mean they sell poorly.

So let me get this straight. Pircay will take away any PS3 3rd party exclusives, but won't take them away from the 360 and Wii? You know they've been hacked since day one right? Anyways true 3rd party exclusives are already rare due to high development cost and yes I do believe FFvs13 will go multiplat.

Ragnarok1051

While there are ways to play pirated games on 360, they require non-trivial modifications to the console, which effectively reduce the piracy problem to a well-contained niche. The nature of the PS3 attacks, however, allows for virtually foolproof, modification-free piracy, which is much more dangerous.

Even Wii piracy requires some sort of overt investment on the part of the Wii owner (to get the tools to apply the relevant software mods.) On PS3, with these attacks, owners wishing to pirate games will need no additional investment. And the nature of the attacks means it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for Sony to control the piracy problem. That's what makes these attacks so dangerous to Sony.

The very real possibility is that2011's Call of Duty game will sell like crap on PS3 because a large chunk of PS3 owners will opt to pirate the game instead. As a result, Activision will opt to forgo a PS3 version of 2012s CoD altogether, citing piracy concerns.

So long as the pirates can download 10+ GB worth of data right? And a BD burner. And a couple of BD disks. There are the current barriers for pirating PS3 games that most people seem to have missed.

Developed by third party studios, which was my point.

if u made something that someone else owned the rights to its theirs no matter how u may feel about it... . same applies with those games you listed

Shining example would be Infinity Ward's boss' and Modern Warfare....rights belong to Activision not to the actual developers

OneLazyAsian

These attacks make it trivial for pirates to devise a system that allows them to download games directly to the console, removing the need to burn BD discs. Thanks to Games on Demand and PlayStation Plus, we're already used to the idea of downloading multi-gigabyte games.

Really? I can only think of like 3 PC games that have gone over 8 GB. What games are you usually downloading 10+ GB on?

Yes.

waltefmoney

so going by your logic Halo is 3rd party exclusive

No, but it's developed by a 3rd party studio.

The point is the console maker publishes the game. So it's not third party; more like second-party (developed by someone else but published by the console maker--licensing is implicit).

Here's a good example of the rights tug-of-war. Lemmings--Developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North) but published by Psygnosis (now part of Sony Europe). Guess who owns the rights to Lemmings.

So noted. Nomura's a Sony loyalist, but what the bosses say goes--he can be overridden. Same thing probably goes for Kingdom Hearts III, if it ever appears this generation.

lol at the people thinking you need to burn blu-ray disks. Even before the PS3 was completly hacked, people were playing games off hard drives using Jailbreak. And the games are about the same size as 360 games (except for some exclusives which have lots of FMV, which are then up there in size). downloading around 10gb is not that much, people have been downloading 10gb+ bluray rips for a while now. the difference between this and the 360 hack is that this lets PS3 users run their own code, while the 360 system is relatively still secure as only the dvd rom drive has been compromised, while this is going to the level of PSP.

The only real way Sony can potentiallymitigate the damage fromthis is by using PSN and the game disc in tandem to barrage the OS with a series of authenticity checks and try to make them sophisticated enough that it will take some time for the hackers to figure out how to defeat those checks,

[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="campzor"] ye but sony owns those IPs.... sure 3rd parties are making them but sony owns the ips... i think he means something like...3d dot game heroes or....dead risingcampzor

well sony can still loose them if the 3rd parties go multi plat with new ips, in which case no one gets them.

no..sony still has them and can get some developer they own or 2nd party to make the games for them.. (look at halo)

and looking at halo i know in my heart, a lot of people are going to hate it when the new one comes out. Its not bungie, and if the community features fall short of what bungie already made standard its going to suck,

look what happened when silent hill went to another developer, when the dev that really made the series switches focus and the IP dies and you get some afterthought game limping in the shadow of its predeccesors

Although it was a great reason to develop exclusively for the PlayStation 3, it isn't the only reason. Just one reason less. Exclusives by third parties have been darn rare as is, though, so this won't change much.

WRONG. They will not be "lost" because Sony owns the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS to those series.

You also forgot Ratchet and Clank. It doesn't matter if Insomniac is developing the game or not.

Freaking people need to understand IP rights.

sega owns jakuza, sony has nothing to do with it.

I love all the doom and gloom threads about the PS3 being hacked...:o Lets talk facts people like it was mention earlier all those game's are owned by Sony so you wont see them any where else but on a Sony console. As for the PS3 being hacked big whoopee doo... The 360 has been hacked, the Wii has been hacked has that stopped the sell of hardware or games??? The PS2 was hacked for Christ sake and did that do anything umm no. Everything eventually get hacked so why is everyone freaking out???

Do PS3 have any 3rd party exclusives to lose other then Versus? 360 already taken what there was when PS3 piracy not existed. What makes PS3 now is first party exclusives and they won't go out of PS3.

The hack is a nasty piece of work, it seems the only fix is to make an enormous list of legit signed software released in PS3's history so far that could take months to produce without guaranteed success. And then you don't have to hack the hardware at all. We'll see how this affects the PS3.
