IF this were May of 2008 I might would agree with you but once some of the games hit the shelves for the PS3 and the product starts to become more desirable to consumers I really don't think stores will have any issues selling PS3's. I believe its not the price thats an dissue with the PS3, its the fact it doesn't have enough big time games that's the problem.
In the end I think the PS3 will sell well, especially when sitting right next to it is the elite 360 that costs $480 and you still have to spend an additional $100 to add wifi just so you can pay a fee to play online. There won't be any noticable difference in price to the people that will purchase a system during the second half of this year. Both consoles will basically have the same games. There are a ton of multiplats coming out. Once all of the games hit for both consoles will their truly be a huge difference in which one offers the better games? I don't believe so.
What will be noticable is that they can buy a PS3 with everything they need for gaming in one box, they can get online for free and they will actually have a great selection of games. The alternative to that is purchasing a 360 for basically the same price, taking it home, paying for online service and possibly getting about 6 good months out of gaming before the console breaks down.
I know a number of people that right now will not buy either console. They won't purchase the PS3 because they are waiting for the better games to come out and they won't get the 360 because they don't want to drop half a paycheck on something that may not last for more than a year.
Reliability is what will determine which console will do well in the end and right now IMO the 360 is failing miserably at that.
