Well peoples, it has been really easy to make fun of Sony and PS3 when they started out, but the console's shaping up real nice these days:

+Great games (ARGUABLY as good or better than 360's library)

+The best looking games (on consoles) - Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, MGS4 (yes guys, MGS4 is still one of the most technically impressive games)

+The most features - Bluray, and other stuff that I probably don't care about so much (Like Internet Browsing)

+Free online service (Call it what you think it is... as good as live, a little less good as live... point is, it's pretty much there, and it's free)

+Reasonable Price - $299 for the all new Slim model

Neutral

o Multiplats are now identical

Negtives?

- Backwards Compatibility...

That's all I can really think of.

I think Sony has some pretty good momentum going, especially with games. I definitely suffered during its early years, but knew they would pick up... never felt the need to jump ship. What do you guys think?

drawbacks:

not many people play it's exclusives online. you can have a game that scores a 100000000, but if no one plays it, whats the point?

That's not really a negative towards the USE of the system, is it? People playing those exclusivesonline are decent enough.

That definitely hurts Sony, but not so much a PS3 user playing games. Or maybe it does... I don't know.

How can you list some opinions in the OP, some that are of no USE of the system (like graphics and reasonable price) both of which are useless if you already own the system, then criticize that guy's opinion.......or what effects him. Maybe it DOES affect users because if they dont sell..............theres less of a chance of a sequel............or another game altogether?? just a thought.........................

graphics are the same on both systems, ps3 has a web browser? ok...same harddrive spacing, xbox 360 has a larger online gaming community, the ps3 online is free but you have to pay to play most popular games, blu ray? how many people actually have tvs that support that? reasonable price at $300? man sony just keeps losing money.

- IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE GAMES FOR!! This is the biggest thing holding it back. Many 360 games look waaaaay better than their PS3 counterparts because of this, and many companies will not release games on the ps3 since it apparently takes too long and is too costly (Valve for example). - Multiple people cannot sign into one console... Well they can, but only in very few games. - Mandatory installs and frequent updates that do nothing but take forever to download. - Exclusives aren't as good as on the 360 (yet).

I can't think of anything bad about the PS3. Except maybe ... it's a little too perfect.

The Xbox has high cases ofRROD and you have to pay for live though.

The Wii just lacks games im interested in, and has the worst online set up since the PS2.

I really wish there was backwards compatibility, since my ps2 is totally broken and I don't want to replace it. Hopefully the rumors about downloadable ps2 games comes true, since I have never owned Kinddom hearts 1/2 or mgs 2/3 before.

They still don't have the security with third parties that I would like, but things are where they need to be. The backwards compatibility debacle was just flat out stupid. The multi-SKUs are driving me nuts. The slim release was the smartest thing Sony's done in a long damn time. I love that they provide dedicated servers for their games, they don't skimp on their budgets, and they have free online gameplay. I win in every way. I'm a satisfied customer, so I don't know what else to say.

I've been through the worst of the PS3 development woes since I was an early adopter and yet... The worst multiplat I've ever seen is maybe Blacksite Area 51, which was garbage and ran poorly. The worst multi plat I've owned was Rainbow Six Vegas, but it pretty much just ran at 20-some odd frames as opposed to the consistent 30 FPS on XBox 360. That was within the first year of release, and most developers are able to achieve platform parity consistently that or they lose a few things like specular maps, motion blur, or some anti-aliasing. Like it's maybe 5% inferior on a bad day, and that's when you go to Digital Foundry and scan over native screenshots and framerate analyses. Blacksite and Orange Box were major, major outliers. Granted, I've never been happy with multi-platform development, which is why I tend to stay away from multi-platform games. I don't plan on buying a multi-platform game on my PS3 for the foreseeable future.

Funny you should ask since I was just thinking of getting one but decided not to for one big reason. The reason being that Sony doesn't seem to make VGA or DVI cables for the PS3 and the HDMI to DVI cable wouldn't work with my monitor. Pretty sad they have made it so difficult to get the system running on certain displays. I don't think my monitor is HDCP compliant so I couldn't even use the same monitor I use for my 360. Epic fail in this area compared to the 360 in my opinion and for people like me it's a deal breaker. Especially considering 90% of the games this gen are 720 or lower, making a requirement that your display can output in 1080 if you want hd is pointless except of course for Blu Ray which undoubtedly is why Sony set it up this way. Another example of Sony's original focus of Blu Ray over gaming with the PS3.

PSN could improve a lot more and the several third party exclusives need to be kept int that condition, some franchises from the PS1/2 era have yet to make the Jump into current generation.

I could come up with several criticisms both in my own personal taste and business wise but instead I'll just say its improving and that's a good thing.

Never heard of that either BUT you do have to pay for another character slot. But you know the first one and the only one you really need is free.

My 3 major criticisms of the PS3 & Sony.

1) Sony's refusal to acknowledge the YLOD issue.

2) Now that the PS3 is at a much more reasonable price point Sony still charges the same repair fee which work's out (if your Canadian) to almost 3/4 of the cost of a brand new PS3 purchase! No wonder people are just chucking their broken PS3's in the closet to collect dust instead of paying Sony the ridicules repair fee & then, just going out & buying a brand new PS3!

3) The PSN& PSN Community.. mostly made up of 1 console owning fan-boys that hate anything non-Sony. You can't use a Halo or Gears of War Sig without getting flamed to death, You can't (as a PSN rule & because..) mention other consoles, platforms or games from other consoles or platforms without upsetting the less mature & sociably challenged on the site thus, starting a major flame war & topic lock with a mod warning to go along with it!

Other than that, the PS3 is fine.

Well thats not entirely true, PS3 games tend not to sell huge ammounts at once but over time they numbers accumulate into the millions. For example, GT5 :Prologue is around 4 million, MGS4 is at 5, Motorstorm is at like 3.5, Uncharted at 3 Million etc etc.

I highly doubt it... you'll have to show a link on that one. If that's your one example, then I think we can put this to rest. Online multiplayer is free on all PS3 online titles. Period.

And Tvs to support BluRay? Do you have your 360 hooked up to an SDTV? If not, then you would actually have a TV that would benefit from BluRay. In fact, your SDTV supports it too.

You've been fed some misinformation

no, its true. The ps3 interface is way less intuative than the 360

Psn feels cheap and not as community focused as xbl

Psn store is harder to navigate, has less content and is often slow. Marketplace and Xbla rock

Manatory installs are lame.

- Crappy controller makes me wish I was playing the game on the 360. - Graphics still aren't 4d 120fps - Have to be pretty damn patient with the exclusives - Online community isn't as big as XBL - Still comes with only composite cables so it's not HD out of the box - Always have to install game, even if it's just a demo. It doesn't give a choice like the 360. - Multiplats still look and run worse

Well, if your hands are bigger than a baby's, then the controller sucks. However, probably the most negative thing about the PS3 is Home. Home is the worst implemented "extra" that I've ever experienced, and I lived through the Sega 32X.

Thats because bungie are clever people, they know the halo army will buy anything with the halo name on it no questions asked, with the exception of kz2 which had a poorly received prequel and had something to prove the rest of the games you mentioned are new ips. halo reach willl not be last halo trst me on that.
