[QUOTE="UnnDunn"]MGS4 also had several massive installs to get around the loading times. I wouldn't be surprised if FF13 does use a DL BD, but I also won't be surprised if it uses a stealth install to help with load times.Ya, we'll see though. SE are sticking to their claims that there are no installs. Doesn't matter to me though.FF13 will have no install the same way Uncharted 2 had no install. (Hint: Uncharted 2 had an install; it just didn't say it was installing... it showed that spinning dagger for a minute and change, the first time you play.)Chutebox
It would be something if there were no loading screens. They could always do what Bayonetta is doing.
Add mini games or a training level.

Try Chrono Trigger. There's very little extra grind required for the game (just the usual progression will have you at a sufficient level), battles aren't random and the battle system is deep but still pretty straight forward. Plus not to mention it's one of the best games ever.
i find it amusing that anyone at all is still interested in this game now that it is multiplat... it's out in a few months and all the hype is dead and everyone i know isn't even considering buying it... do you all want another star-wars rip-off rpg? i mean seriously... ME2 is coming out soon and obviously looks sooo much better anyways.
to each their own i guess.. ff hasn't been good for about a decade though imho and this one looks super lame..
3picuri3
What about it is a "star-wars rip off?"
Why are you comparing a WRPG with a JRPG?
Why does it look super lame?
FFXIII shouldn't be grind heavy; there are no numbered levels and "leveling" is linked to story progress, so you can't just battle your way to super strength early on in the game.
"Square enix has apparently revealed that the 360 version of its latest RPG epic, Final Fantasy XIII, will feature compressed audio and video, presumably to help squeeze its considerable heft onto the DVD format."
Really now, compressed a/v for a dvd9. Who would have thought of that? :P
That site must be horribly desperate to get new headlines.
so this game sucks now that its a multiplat? Im getting ME 2 but I would have beat it twice by the time FF 13 comes out. Which is the star wars RPG because I hardly see a resemblance in FF 13. If any thing ME is a star trek rip off by your logic I dont consider it a rip but you might. I do agree with your last point though FF has been lacking of late but 13 looks amazing. there was a comparison vid or article a while ago showing how some of the new troops look similar to storm troopers and the musical score is very similar in parts of the teaser trailers and the plot was somewhat similar as well.. obviously not identical but it has been called the japanese star wars by more than one online article i've read - not saying its a bad thing necessarily... just doesn't seem original to me. i also really don't like FF meets space.. i'd rather it be more fantasy like the first 3-4.. but i know not everyone feels that way. either way, doesn't seem to be a terrible amount of hype for it.. especially if this thread is any indicator :)[QUOTE="3picuri3"]

Only obviously better to you. I dislike Western Rpgs very much so for me FF13 > ME2 x 1000000.
How is it linked to the story progression? I'm just curious... I haven't heard this, but I thought the system was more akin to the Sphere Grid (X) and License Board (XII) which were very easy to fill and unlock (if you were patient... XII's board was easier than X's though) I'm willing to bet some people will find a loop to the system, but then again I haven't bothered paying attention to level system much either, because I have to admit... I have lost almost all interest in the game.FFXIII shouldn't be grind heavy; there are no numbered levels and "leveling" is linked to story progress, so you can't just battle your way to super strength early on in the game.

no, not just to me :) WRPG actually sell better than nearly all JRPGs these days even taking into account Japanese sales. isn't any mystery why Japanese developers are looking more and more towards WRPG to model their new games... each FF gets more and more Western as the years go on imho. if you want a true JRPG FF definitely isn't it these days....Welcome to SW..where unique and thoughtful threads get ignored in favor of the same 50 tired ass topics posted on a day to day basis.

Actually on second thought, maybe Diablo?

i was talking about consoles.. obviously with handhelds JRPGs destroy WRPGs :) either way, main point was that is wasn't 'only obviously better to me'...Who cares? 360 owners should just be glad were getting it, since it was supposed to be PS3 exclusive.
For me, playing it with slightly lower quality audio and video (don't really care, I don't even have an HDTV :P ) on multiple disks is way better not playing it, or dropping $300 to get a PS3.

I really don't like the look of the remake...I prefer the original..I might buy to try one day though..if I have spare cash...or if something happens to my copy of the GBA port
Funny thing is, it will probably score nearly identical to the 360 versionWaffle_Fish

i quite like it. It actually looks alot better (to me anyway) than people give it credit for. Lots of improvements in over the FF3 DS engine like lighting and shadows during cut scenes. If you hate DS 3D, you won't like it. I don't mind it though so I was fine. I also am always impressed by the solid amount of detail Matrix puts into the environments. They do the world complete justice in my eyes. I would suggest it if you find it for cheap. VA isn't too bad either (except Kain's sucks pretty bad)
I just don't understand why memory is needed for uncompressed or any audio..? Because it has to be stored like everything else, and the consoles only have 512MB of ram, you cant really afford to dedicate 25 - 50MB of uncompressed audio.........just doesnt make sense on a console....let alone on a high end PC uhm??? havent you ever heard of streaming audio straight off of the uncompressed disc??? like regular cd players have done for years!!! also sorry if someone already mention this but had to skip through the rest of the posts to mention this to him[QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="UnnDunn"]Sure, that's what they say. But what they probably mean is that the PS3 doesn't do any additional compression to the audio as it is being sent out through the audio output. But I guarantee you, the audio is compressed in memory. There simply isn't enough available memory in either of these machines to afford wasting it on uncompressed audio. Period.

CDs can afford to do it because thats all thats being loaded..........and most CD players have some sort of anti-skip protection, and guess what that is? Yes, it preloads the music into an internal cache, so its still stored somewhere dude. Gaming is different because you have to load game assets, process physics, animations, and a host of other stuff. This is why almost everyting on consoles have to be compressed, no matter if you are on bluray or not.[QUOTE="navyguy21"]

Thanks guys :P Seriously, thanks guys, i might try an easier JRPG to get up to snuff with them, any suggestions?navyguy21Download Final Fantasy 7 off PSN. Once you get past the visuals, it's got an engaging story and memorable characters. I was able to beat the final boss at level 35, though most people will be around 65 at that time. I've only found a couple spots in that game that really needed grinding my frist couple time through. adn each of those was really only a few level ups.
I find in most of these JRPG's that grinding isn't needed, as long as you simply stay in all the fights you get in. I would have suggested Final Fantasy 10, but the sphere grid would be WAY too intimidating to a JRPG n00b. Final Fantasy 7s materia system is VERY easy to use and understand. The battle system is stright forward, turn based system. Music is just awesome, seriously great.
But I may be a bit biased, if there was one game I could could say in all honesty has ZERO flaws with it, I would say FF7. I've beaten it nearly 30 times, finishing the extra bosses every time. I just love the game...lol. Anyways, FF7 is easy to get into, the materia system is easy to understand and use...even abuse if you can find the right combinations, ailments are fairly straight forward and easy to cure...lol I could go on forever about the greatness of FF7....seriously, just play it.
The one problem with a lot of Final Fantasies is they ALWAYS split you team up and force you to play with low level characters. This is where most grinding comes in, you HAVE to level up all characters. The characters not in you party gain a small percentage of the exp, but nothing worth noteing. Whta I would usually do is elave it till the last minute then bring 1 in for a few fights and gain them 10 levels(tougher enemies yield more exp, lower levels require less exp) then put them behind.
Another GREAT JRPG from the PSX era is Legend of Dragoon, I HIGHLY recommend this one as well. I would LOVE to see a sequal. You couls also try Kingdom Hearts, but this is more of an action RPG.
Now for being on topic. FF13 has NOTHING on FFvs13. so it doesn't matter which version of 13 is better cause vs13 will be the better game.

Then thats why the Japanese article says that the audio and video are at different "compression rates" (or something along those lines) instead of one having compression and the other not having it at all.
Of course people mistranslated the article, willfully.

PS3 version will have uncompressed 7.1 PCM and 360 will have 5.1 dolby. 99% of the population wont even notice the difference. I still don't know why people aren't more angry about square butchering the game to make it multiplat. Seeing as how the 360 version has multiple discs, that means they had to alter the flow of the story and the game in order to compensate for that. but people are worried about a SLIGHT difference in audio and CG playback?[QUOTE="hakanakumono"]

Each multidisc Final Fantasy game has always had the entire game on each disc. The only difference is the FMV and Audio on each respective disc. Final Fantasy XIII will be the same game it was always meant to be; 360 owners just have to switch discs to watch the FMV and listen to the voices present in the game. The only reason Star Ocean 4 had crazy disc changing requirements was because it was, quite frankly, poorly made. There's no way that the 360 ver could affect the story, because it was already set in stone before it was announced for the PS3. They were even going to make it for PS2, before it became to late and they had to move to PS3. What's more, if the 360 ver really had any influence over the 360 ver, the PS3 ver would not be released in Japan until a 360 ver was completed.

thank god someone else says what i've been saying for a long time while pundits say but the game was changed the game was changed it was changed man with no proof whatsoever. The game was in development for over 3 years before a 360 version was even announced let alone worked out, disc changing in no way has to or will change the scope or style of a game unless the developer makes a decision to do this any ways, Its not hard to just pop a pop up on screen saying please put in disc 2...ect you don't have over 3 years of development then change it completely or even a little its too hard by that time, and nothing not interviews, not images have shown the 360 to cause a change or downgrade to this game. @navyguy Im sorry man but people just gotta accept the fact you can throw names out there but the majority of jpgs are grind fests there are some games that dont require it but alot fo jrpgs get quite hard and in the end those games turn into item grind fests...ect when they can be done at low levels. But i personally love grinding some times, and if grinding isn't your thing get a cheat disc and auto level your self to an appropriate level for that area its what i've done when i didn't feel like putting up with monster battles and only wanted the story line. Please Log In to post.
