What's with the "but...", do you mean "but, it's the continuation of the deepest srpg series ever created"? Yeah, you must mean that. It's a killer game series, I love 1 & 2, and I've pre-ordered 3.Andrew_Xavier
I have to be honest here, I have never played any of them, are they really that good?

Yes. They literally have more depth than any other console series. 1 & 2 literally have hundreds of hours of gameplay, and there really aren't any other games like them.

Hmm, ok, I'll have to check them out, thanks man.
Looks like a PS1 port....
Are they even trying?
It will still be a great game but at least TRY to use the next gen power. Or just make it for the PS2...

I don't think SRPGs need photorealistic graphics, or stunning physics, but I do think they could have done more with this. Games like Odin Sphere have set the 2d art bar pretty high, and Nippon Ichi fell short of it.

Andrew_XavierI noticed the other day that my Disgaea 2 disc is cracked in two places around the center ring and that the disc itself is quite thin and cheap. Is yours like that too?

Nope. It's the same as all my ps2 discs honestly.

Good luck finding them. Seriously. Only a limited copies of both games were released and the prices for them are high.Good luck finding them. Seriously. Only a limited copies of both games were released and the prices for them are high.kage_53
Yup, they are near impossible to find, I lucked out and got mine from a store that didn't know what they had :?

I am not saying it needs that but some high res artwork wouldn't hurt the game.

It would go against the spirit of the series. You'd have to play the first 2 to understand.

I definitely agree.
Regardless though, graphics aren't really the what Disgaea is about, so it's not a big problem.
[QUOTE="agentfred"]I don't know why Sony said the game could not have been made for the PS2 though. I read that somewhere...Regardless though, graphics aren't really the what Disgea is about, so it's not a big problem.
Bigboi500
That is very interesting because it so could be done. But this game is HUGE in japan, so obviously to boost PS3 sales it's smarter for them to make it PS3 only.

yeah. It will definitely be a fan game, not a game for some random guy who goes, oh this looks interesting.
The real question is why wouldn't they just do this as a PS2 game? Unless the game is 1000 hours long, I can't see it taking up any more than 8GB so the disk space isn't an issue... The graphics certainly aren't the issue... So why not just release it on the platform where you KNOW all your fans have the system?

Bigboi500
Well, I think it's the content, they'd apparently added a ton of new stuff for 3, so, I'm guessing maybe the ps2 couldn't process it or something?

horrowhip
Well, the first 2 were deep in the hundreds of hours, and this one is apparently even longer, so, your 1000 hours long thing could be true.

But even then it is still a stretch.

I'm pretty sure they're an independent developer, so they don't have a vested interest in selling PS3s. That being said, I have no idea why they chose to develop for the PS3.

No I think, its exactly the kind of update it needs. I mean, its not like he's asking for a revamp with 3d models. Is it so much to ask for the sprites to be a little more crisp and detailed?[QUOTE="kage_53"]Good luck finding them. Seriously. WTH are you talking about?
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=disgaea&x=0&y=0
$27 for PSP Afternoon of Darkness(admittedly I paid like $60 back when you couldn't find them before the rerelease)
$24 for PS2 Hour of Darkness
$36 for Disgaea 2.
Its not like they are Xenogears and FF7, they can be found for decent prices. My Disgaea 2 was new even.
This game seems kind of like a waste to me by putting it on PS3. Why not put it on one or any combination of PS2/PSP/Wii? They'd be maximizing their margins and its not like this game needs to be on PS3 anyways by its visuals. They should have just pulled a Altus and kept it on PS2 a la Persona 4. This game really serves no purpose to be on the PS3 except to avoid a 100+ milliion person install in comparid to the dismal one that is the PS3's in comparisonBlackbond
Sony had something to do with this for sure. People will do anything when given truck loads of cash.

Hah, just like the 360 exclusive jrpg's. No purpose except to avoid its install base (PS3 and Japan).

except those actually have good graphics...This has PSX graphics and they are trying to pass it off as a PS3 game.
It would have been acceptable on the PS2 because the game was never about graphics but with the next gen hardware at least get some crisp 2D sprites instead of low res crap...
It would be more understandable if this game was a downloadable game from the PSN store or something. But selling it as a Blu Ray game is just a joke. It looks like a PS1 game. And it's on the PS3, a next gen console.Dahaka-UK
Have you played the other 2 games? If you did, then you would know that the devs usually go for content and gameplay rather than graphics. That's why I love Disgaea. It doesn't try to blind you with its fancy graphics. A next-gen console game doesn't need next-gen console graphics to be good.

D@mn straight. Anyone badmouthing Disgaea 3 obviously hasn't played the previous ones. This series has more personality in just the first cutscenes than ANY whole game this gen.
I understand it is a fan service , however, why didn't they make it graphically better than this, I hope the reviewers do not knock it down because of the graphics.
HAZE-Unit
I am kind of disapointed they didn't at least increase the res on the battle grid sprites, but the near neverending gameplay, (I assume) awesome-hilarious story, and sweet voice acting will more than make up for it. At least the conversation sprites look to be nice, sharp, and well drawn.

not really i mean its a cheap mans jrpg if you want a real good one get final fanasy tactics otherwise this game is pretty much just a rip off of that with over the top spells and attacks there is no real depth to the game you can pretty much get through it without much variation in tactics, and i've beet both games on the ps2 a good 5 or 6 times.

I heard alot about it and alot say it is one of the best SRPGs so Im gonna try it out when it comes out but I wanted it to be graphically better, anyways, I hope it turns out to be good like I heard.
