PS3 Graphics - Money where your mouth is time

There is things called laptop you know so you can't really assume that.. besides that's not the point, He/she asked to see $300 PC to play crysis. Not what parts can you buy for $300 to upgrade an old pc to play crysis.

im willing to bet over 90% of everyone on this forum has a desktop lying around with a case,psu,and hdd with windows from the last 5 years or so. im willing to bet that.

any pc from the last w.e that has a case, a decent (300w or better) psu, and an hdd with at least xp can be upgraded for as little as $80 to play crysis.

and like i mentioned before upgrading (can you really call it upgrading if all you keep is the case and hdd?) is a part of pc gaming just because you cant do it with the consoles doesnt mean it doesnt apply.

consoles are sold at a loss. if they werent you wouldnt see $300 consoles

FACT- No Console can play Crysis with the level of Resolution, AA and AF that is used by most 600$ PC's.

Heck, even a 20in Monitor has higher resolution than a PS3. (1680x1050 vs 720p upscaled anyone?)

The resolution in PS3/Xbox360 is acceptable higher AA and AF does not mean more fun its just for bragging purpose..

720p is low. pc gamers have used it since the 90s. a $500 pc is more than enough to max out crysis at 720p or play it on high/very high at 1680x1050 which is an average resolution for pc gaming.

Vga- $60 9600gso bit slower than the 9600gt ( fast enough for multiplatform games at max settings at 720p even with 4-8xAA and better fps than consoles)

HD-hitachi $39

PSU- $45 Antec 430 W ( antec is good brand and 430W are more than enough and it can be ok even with a card like the 4850 )

Memory-$30 2gb crucial

KB+M- $7 KB+ $5 Mouse

OS-windows 7 RC version is free until may next year

so there you go $330 ( 360 if you want 4gb). Of course fanboys will start crying out that still pse and 360 are $30 cheaper but they tend to forget the cheaper pc games and the other uses pc has

no dvd needed since you can download your games legally via steam or D2d or impulse or gamersgate or GOG
I can guarantee you that PC will run all multiplatform games at 720p but unlike consoles with at least 4xAA and better fps and it will be able to run crysis at 720p high settings

But i said it before and i will say it again

Of course there is no reason building a $300 pc since you will need an upgrade in 6months plus for $200-300 more you can build something alot more future proof and more powerfull
Also Oh what a surprise you need a PC for other things than gaming something alot of console owner dont seem to understand since apparently they all type at their console right now and spending abit more to make that pc also gaming capable is cheaper than buying a console

The results of this will be judged when Crysis 2 launches on the PS3. If it looks better than the years old original Crysis I will have been owned. If not, all of you that post in here must admit your self ownage.

Surely the almighty PS3 with it's 'godlike' graphics shown in Uncharted 2 and MGS4 will trounce the original Crysis? Don't be shy, we know who you are already but I want it recorded for posterity.

The years old Crysis ? Crysis came out in 2007, if crysis 2 comes out next year it will be almost 3 years old. Enjoy having to say that the PS3 can look as good as a 3 year old PC game.

looking at games like uncharted 2 and kz2. i do think ps3 is capable of better graphics. after playing the demo of crysis i was really disapointed by the graphics

It's hard to explain... but try and compare a PC game from 2006 to a ps3 game now. I'm not sure if it works the same way.

Crysis is good as it is as far as graphics go. But the question is. Uncharted 2 on the other hand, is one of the best graphics you'll ever see on a console game. Makes you wonder, what would it look like if it was made for PC.

most of those mods run fine on my system not with 16x AA or w.e but its still not a bullshot. you cant have a bullshot with a pc since you can play those settings doesnt matter if its 20fps or 50fps you can still reproduce those shots in the game. bullshots are only for consoles because no matter how hard you try you can never reproduce them.

I really don't get this obsession with finding a PC that can play Crysis for $300. Sure, you *can* buy a PC for that price and it *will* play Crysis at an acceptable resolution with an acceptable frame rate, but I think most PC gamers would prefer to spend something extra for a better PC.

PC gaming costs more that console gaming, there I said it, but who cares? You get a vastly better gaming system, from graphics, to control options, to versatility, to gaming library (imo at least), for a relatively small cost increase. I mean, if price is really you top concern, why do you buy a PS3? Just stick with a PS2! I dare you, find me a PS3 that costs as much as a PS2! See the absurd reasoning?

I think MS fanboys and PC fanboys make a bigger deal about this then it really is. There is in no way a large or even reasonable size group of Sony fanboys claiming any PS3 game is better looking then Crysis. 99% of the graphic king threads are there to compare PS3 games to the 360/Wii. What do we know when we look at this?

It has a high resolution texture, uses dynamic soft shadows, sub surface scattering with lighting, volumetric lighting moves around the object to create the god ray effect, collision detection physics to move leaves around objects and respond to shots, some are destructible when shot at the base, its animation responds to changes in the wind and near by explosions, it can impact game play and probably a variety of other things I cannot remember.

All of this detail is put into just a plant in Crysis, this is why it boggles my mind when PS3 users put some games up against Crysis that don't use anywhere near as advanced technologies as Crysis puts into a single plant. I can only assume they don't actually know how advanced some of the stuff in Crysis is, looking at it at face value and assuming that's all there is. That or they don't care and are just being platform fanboys.

I think MS fanboys and PC fanboys make a bigger deal about this then it really is. There is in no way a large or even reasonable size group of Sony fanboys claiming any PS3 game is better looking then Crysis. 99% of the graphic king threads are there to compare PS3 games to the 360/Wii. I was here when they were comparing it to Haze and then Killzone 2 and so on. Every new graphics hyped title inevitably gets compared to Crysis, don't try to tell me otherwise because I was there arguing with those people.

i get annoyed too. pc was pushing tech maybe 3-4 years ago now the focus is on making good looking games that look great on all systems but arent always graphical masterpieces. pc is still home to the best graphics aside from crysis though.
