LMAO at people saying that there will be great homebrew for the PS3 now. Licensed developers complain about how hard it is to program for the cell and you think hobbiests are going to find it easier than a team of developers??? I don't think so................

Dream on the only thing the hack going to do is open the flood gates for pirated games and cheating hacks which has already gotten out of control MW2 anyone..... I've been buying most games for the PS3 and ignoring my 360 for the last few years because I like things on one disk thats harder to damage; also because my Xbox isn't even hooked up, but I'm thinking of dusting it off and signing back up for Live.

IMO Live wasn't better than PSN in fact some ways it was worse, but now It's no contest. There's basically no rules on PSN now and if every new game that comes out has a million hackers in the first 3 days I'll go with the 360 version. : (

Yes I know there's hacking on the 360 and wii, but unlike the 360 and Wii Sony can't do anything about it with the master keys. Even if they do you get banned they could just issue a new MAC address change there IP and Sony wouldn't be the wiser.

The 360 isn't immune to hacking. This won't be a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I've seen modders make games better than vanilla versions(Oblivion/Stalker) so anything is possible.

Sony has capable programmers and I'm sure they will be able to deal with this. Remote disconnect and banning will be coming.

There are already a bunch of homebrew apps out there, some innocent, others not so much. But yes, I agree that piracy and hacking will definitely play their parts.

To what extent we'll see bad things happen, it's still too early to tell. I'm interested to see how this all pans out.

as i said in the other thread

Geohot and kakarot and the 2 biggest on the PS3 scene atm, they both dont allow piracy, so yes atm it is for homebrew

but Hermes and waninkoko are the ones without morals, they honestly dont care about the effects of piracy

Actually they can ban them, but they can just unban themselfs with the master keys and issue the system a new MAC address so what would be the point? They could IP ban them , but anyone can change their IP address easy.

Agreed. Homebrew is an excuse imo. Who wants to play some NES emulators on a HDTV or have some little apps that are much better on an average PC? Its (almost) all about piracy.

Oh please , the PC is still by far the easiest and most hacked platform . As fo rthe PS3 theres serveral ways they can go about protecting games.

A. Ban IP's and brick consoles, basically meaning you can hack your console but never be able to connect to PSN.

B. Have some sort of security on a personal server( example Black ops) theres a reason why they went for MW2 and not blackops.

ima pc player ,but i think it would be cool if somehow a hacker enabbled u to change or add files to ur ps3 oblivion data files so ps3 ppl could also play pc mods. doubt its possible but it would be cool if console could also enjoy mods.

it's not going to be an easy firmware update, but despite a team member of overflow (the hacking team) who said it couldn't be fixed, i still believe it can be fixed but it's not going to be very easy.

You can't brick a console if you have the master keys because you can just unbrick it and IP addresses are a joke to change unless they block your entire street which means anyone who lives near you could get banned.

no they went after mw2 because the game was based on the security or relied on it of the platform which for ps3 has been breached.

Make it like homefront with the keys. Will annoy some people, but should ultimately stop hacking for the most part.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. MW2 has a lot of hackers cus the game's really easy to hack and it has way too manyvulnerabilities and IW could fix them if they wanted to but they just don't want to waste more time on the game. Now they have the excuse that the PS3 was hacked but the truth is that this been happening since even before the custom firmware came out...

If what they said was true then how come COD:BO is still unhackable? Obviously cus it has much better security.

About the hombrew and cell you're completely wrong again. When developers talk about difficulties with the games they are not saying that they can't make the games but that it's hard to push the system to its limits. The main problem with PS3 is that the GPU is weak compared to the X360 so devs need to make use of the Cell and its new architecture to make comparable games to those on the other console. Homebrew is not about pushing the limits, hombrew is about making neat applications for the PS3 like for example: emulators. These kind of applications don't need as much optimizations as a game like Uncharted 2, these application will mostly run on the GPU and PPU of the Cell alone. Remember that optimizations for the PS3 is to make use of the SPE's and these are not necessary for homebrew.

As a single core PPU and GPU the PS3's like 3 times more powerful than the Wii and the Wii has homebrew. My point is that the PS3 has even more power to produce much better application than Wii will ever have...But the PS3's still not entierly hacked yet, the hackers still don't have access to the hypervisor or GameOS kernel of the PS3 according to flukes1 blog but homebrew is on its way. Emulators for the Super Nes, Ds, Genesis are already playable at 60fps on the PS3....
