[QUOTE="white_sox"]MLB the show>MLB 2k(to make this post SW relevant). However, I do think 2k is progressing. Last year was actually a solid baseball game. [QUOTE="oldkingallant"]And before you even begin to argue this I'm a baseball sportswriteroldkingallant
So am I, in the sense that blogspot is open to the public and every shmoe can write what he or she wants. But you being the professional here, I'll leave you to ponder the fact that both Colon and Garcia could be the 4th and 5th starters in the yankee's rotation. If Peavy is healthy, the Sox have just as much a shot as anyone. There is absolutely no way Bartolo Colon will make the rotation, no matter what Girardi and Cashman say, it will most likely be Ivan Nova (4.50 ERA in 7 starts last year, had almost all quality starts) in the 4th spot and Garcia, who I remind you is coming off a solid year with 150 IP. Colon will be garbage, there's no question. He's one year separated from the majors and I'll be amazed if he's able to even make the 25-man roster (40 doesn't seem horribly unlikely, he was supposedly pitching pretty well in an independent league).Garcia was 12-6 last year with a 4.64 ERA last year, if he can repeat that he'll be more than suitable for the 5 spot. Peavy was 7-6 with a 4.63 ERA. Obviously Peavy is the one with more potential to bounce back due to Garcia's age, and I'm willing to give Peavy the benefit of the doubt and say he will improve this season, the Yankees will need A.J. Burnett to bounce back as well so I'd be a hypocrite if I said he won't bounce back from his injury. The difference between the two being Peavy's injuries. I don't think we're gonna see another Mark Prior (also now on the Yankees in the minors) case where a pitcher wrecks himself before the age of 30 and is out forever, but chronic injury is going to be a concern. The thing that really helps the Yankees out here is the pitching in their farm system. Andrew Brackman has a solid bit of experience and could potentially move up later this season. Dellin Betances is a longshot, but he's a stud in the minors and if he keeps improving he could be in there later too. Manny Banuelos is gonna take at least 2 more years before he's in the rotation, so as much as I'd like to count him in I can't.
Comparing pitching alone is insufficient; the Yankees still have the best offense in baseball, barely edging out the Red Sox (who as much as I hate to admit it are favored in the AL East due only to superior pitching). I did some calculations for an article, the Yankees averaged 5.3 runs per game last year, and that was while Jeter, A-Rod, Tex, Jorge, and Granderson were all having down years. I imagine it'll be a least 5.6 this season, and no matter how you spin it the team's ERA when you take into account the bullpen isn't going to be nearly that high. By adding Pedro Feliciano and Rafael Soriano to our bullpen we've essentially shortened the game to 7 innings, Soriano will take care of the 8th, River the 9th, and Feliciano can knock out any hard hitting leftys in the 6th-8th. David Robertson has been solid as well, Boone Logan had a huge year last year, but only time will tell if it's a fluke, luckily we have Perpetual Pedro so he won't even be needed. Joba Chamberlain's stats weren't amazing last year, but I just learned he's not cut out to be a setup man. After they moved him into middle relief his ERA was a 2.8, 2.10 during the post season. If he can keep that up add yet another lights out guy in the bullpen. The Yankees may be a bit short on pitching (although if Phil Hughes can improve at the rate he's expected they'll have two aces, I wrote a whole article analyzing Phil Hughes and he's following the same pattern as King Felix, CC, Lee, Halladay, and many other current aces in regards to stats, started last year with a 1.69 ERA and 4-0 in 5 starts too), but if Nova and Garcia can get it done in the 4/5 spots the Yanks can pull off a trade around the deadline to fix it up, and if not they still have the best relief pitching and the best offense. As disastrous as their off season has been made out to be they are still a top 3 team in baseball. The odds to win the WS came out recently, they favored the Phillies 1st, Red Sox 2nd, and Yankees 3rd. Wow this is way too much sports talk for System Wars. I think you know you're too obsessed when you alter all the rosters in MLB '10 The Show to what you predict they'll be in 2012...... and then do whatever I just did.
Cool to see more people here are into baseball though, we'll talk crap as the season goes on :P. The White Sox will be alright this year, I just don't think they have much of a chance to win. But hey it could be a lot worse, they could be the Cubs .
EDIT: Reading over this thing I made so many mistakes, but I'm tired and can't be assed to fix them, I've gotten used to having an editor do that crap. You get the idea though.
What is this I don't even .... YOU'RE MY NEW FAV HYPE MEMBER/HERO !! :O
